We have been planning to stay at POR the entire time I have been planning our trip, but the closer it gets the more I worry about there being room for our party of five. It will be my dh(28) me(27) our son(5), my nephew(13) and my mother. I was able to get in on the great 40% code prior this year, but looking with the codes now I can move to a Wilderness Cabin for about $520 more. Our budget is already tight, however I want this to be a magical trip in everyway. Should we splurge and go for it or say put with POR that we already have our hearts set on?

I've stayed at both places and both are wonderful. Are you getting 2 rooms at POR? If so, stay there. The cabins are nice but you are limited to 1 bathroom and you are paying for the kitchen. So it will save you $ if you eat in. But if you are doing the dining plan, it wouldn't really benefit much.

this is tough because the resorts are soo different and what one person likes, another may not...sigh...Personally, I could never stay in a Cabin, too rustic for me. If I needed more space would probably consider two rooms at POP..or could the 40% code be used to add on a POR room or would that be way more than a cabin?

I really feel bad for you - 3 adults, a 13 yr old and 5 yr old will be a very tight fit in a POR room. Have you stayed there before so you know what to expect? And what if you do not get assigned an AB room? Well, then you could get a rollway for your mom - those rollaways are pretty comfy:)

Good luck and hope everything works out. Sorry I was not much help :(

We only have one room at POR for the 5 of us. I had been thinking dh and I on one bed, my mom and son on another and nephew on trundle bed? We have not stayed at POR before actually this is our first ever family vacation to WDW and I want it to be magical for everyone.

We have 5 too. If we are not staying DVC, i get 2 rooms at POP, 1 room at a deluxe or stay in a cabin. If you can get a garden view room at Contemporary the rooms are only about $10 more than a cabin in value season. I have stayed at POR and it is a little cramped with 5.

I've tried to get a quote for Contemporary and the rooms are all booked during are stay, as is the suite at all stars music and any room at pop.:confused3

Any families of 5 have any input on how much room we will have at POR. It's not that we will be in our room much, but and we are excited about staying at POR, just worried a bit about the room issue.

The POR rooms are 315 sq ft - don't know if that helps..in all honesty, since this is your first trip I would either go with POP or a deluxe that allows 5 - those have daybed that would be fine for the 13 yr old. I have traveled with 5 many times, but we always stayed at the Poly or Contemporary.
Sent you a pm.

We stayed at POR with our family of 5 a few years ago (my husband, myself and our 3 daughters, ages 9, 5 and 5). I thought it was pretty crowded for us back then, and my girls were so little and tiny, so I'm sure it will be probably tight for you. And no one liked the trundle bed, so they ended up sharing a double bed for the week anyway. With three adults, it may be rough going.

What are the ages of your family?

We have 3 adults and a 5 year old and a 13 year old. Will this be too tight?

We just spent 12 nights there. It was me, my huband and our three kids 11. 8. and 3. All three of the kids are very tall and we didn't have any problems.

You may have more room at FW but you will be losing the fabulous food court, beutiful grounds, and great pool.

That is kind of my thoughts as well. We've had our heart set on POR since we started to plan, I mean it's Disney how bad it could be a little tight for 6 nights be when we are at WDW anyhow!

The cabins at FW are nice(not really rustic) and would give you more space, not just in the room but one a nice deck outside as well. In the cabin you will have a bedroom with a set of bunks for the boys and a bed for your mom, in the living room there is a murphy ned for you and dh. If you have a car you can park it right infront of your cabin. The full kitchen is nice(helps make up for the no counter service)for snacks and such, or just coffee and danish in the morning. If your dh wants to there is even a grill outside. Mousekeeping will come everyday just like at the hotel, plus they will do the dishes. The grounds at FW are very nice and relaxing, almost hard to believe you are just a boat ride away from MK. The big downside is that the pools are just pools, no slides, no hot tub.

It sounds like you want folks to tell you that it will be okay with 5 at POR ~ most have said that they would find it too tight, but since that is where your heart is set, then maybe you'll enjoy it anyway! :)

It is going to be very tight - 6 nights can be a long time and the whole point of choosing a resort you like is to enjoy spending time there! And you have 3 adults and 2 kids, not 2 adults with 3 kids, which makes a difference.

It's clearly what you truly want so just go for it!! :thumbsup2 Try not to torture yourself with wondering if it will work...or for little more than the cost of cabin you could have 2 rooms at POR :)

It will be tight, but if you really want POR, (one of my favorites), then it probably won't matter to you. I would pick POR over FW for the conveniences. (bus, food court, pools, activities, boat to DTD)

We just recently came back from POR and had 5 in our room....Kind of had a "family reunion" and between our 5 family rooms, there were technically 4 per room, but some didnt want to be split up so in our room we had 5, me, my sister, my niece 14, other niece 12 and my son 11. I slept on a twin air mattress because I have a hard time sleeping with anyone in a full size bed ( I am used to sleeping on a king )
I put it between the bed and the door....There was still room to open the door fully and during the day we just stood it up against the wall!
And there was plenty of comfortable sleeping room!
Honestly, we didn't spend too much time in the room, so it wasnt bad at all :cool2:

We have stayed at both the cabins and POR. They are both nice. There is definately more room at the cabins for you. The cabins are fun because they really feel like you are in the woods with the huge pine trees all around. The deck has a picnic table to eat outside on. Although the pool is not themed like POR, there is an outdoor movie event with roasting marshmallows at the cabins. There isn't a food court, but you'd have a full kitchen. The full kitchen helped us eat a little healthier!

Maybe you have vacationed all together before and one room isn't a big deal for you. If you are questioning it now, you should listen to yourself. I'd at least book the cabins, or two rooms at a value would be about the same price.

Good luck!
