I all! I'm a newbie here and need your help. We're flying out from SoCal to our first WDW experience. I know NOTHING about WDW but I gotta tell ya, this site is awesome!!!

I need feedback: is there much difference between the POR and the POFQ??? We have 2 girls ages 8 & 10. Which is the best???

Thanks :sunny:

We stayed at PORS twice this summer. In June we had an awesome experience staying in the mansions of PORS. In July we had issues with the cleanliness of the room in Alligator Buyou. Would I go back again? Yes!!! What I would do different is check the room upon check-in, if not happy I'd notify them immediately. We chose to stay at PORS for these reasons. There are more pools on the RS. DS swam in the quiet pool and the theme pool. We went over to the FQ pool once, but he liked the RS theme pool better. The food court at RS had a few more selection items on the menu and in their cooler section. (For example, we could get a chef salad at RS but not FQ.)

All depends on what you are looking for, I would guess. Both resorts have the same size rooms -- about 314 sq feet. Both resorts have the choice of a king or two double beds in them. The other things are the same ... two sinks ...one shower ... one toilet ...no formal closet ... TV with dresser with drawers ... two chairs and a table.

The differences are the theme ... POR - Alligator Bayou is down south rustic...POR- Mansions is more elegant like the plantation era of the south. POFQ is New Orleans style.

The food court at Riverside is bigger and offers more selection. However, there are less rooms at the POFQ (about 1000) compared to POR (2000). That makes the resort appear to be not as crowded. POFQ is also not as spread out as POR...some of the rooms are a ways from the main lobby area, food court, arcade, etc.

POFQ does not have a sit down restaurant. POR does have one - Boatwrights -- which serves bfast and dinner. POFQ has a bar but there is not typically live music there anymore. POR has a great show at their lounge that is family oriented and well worth the time to see.

The pool at POFQ is probably more oriented to the younger crowd and there is only the main pool area. However, there are only 1/2 the rooms there. The pool at POR has a longer slide that appeals more to the older group, although it isn't a lot bigger. The playground at POR is more suited for older kids, while the one at POFQ is probably for a bit younger. POR has a "fishing hole" where you can rent a pool and fish. POFQ does not have it but you are welcome to walk down and use it since the two are sister resorts.

The boat stops at both POR and POFQ to go to downtown Disney. Sometimes they even run separate boats from each resort when it is busy. The buses are shared for the most part. POFQ is typically the first stop on and the first stop off ... making it nice in the evening.

The arcade at POR is larger than the one at POFQ but they are both adequate.

If you want to rent watercraft you now have to do it at POR...they no longer do it at POFQ. That goes for bike rental, also. But you can use the bikes at both resorts.

Since the two are sister resorts, you can use the facilities at both. We have stayed at both resorts. We prefer to stay at POFQ for a couple reasons (our DS is now 6 and we have stayed at one of the two since he was 18 months old...once a year ...sometimes twice): It is smaller and easier to navigate. Because there are less rooms it appears to be less crowded a bit less frantic ...although it depends on occupancy, at both hotels. We prefer the theme at POFQ and just like the general atmosphere. We like the first stop on and off in relationship to the bus.

But we use things at both resorts. We like the path that goes along the river between the two and enjoy walking it looking at ducks, foliage, the boats as they go by, etc. And, we like both pools. Although I'm sure soon my DS will prefer pool at POR as he gets older.

DH prefers POFQ because of the theming, and because it's smaller. Bus service seems to be quicker. We stayed there three years in a row (same room twice!) and loved it. I preferred RS because it was the first on-site hotel we ever stayed at, and it was magical. We had a room in the mansions. Overnight they changed out all the flowers around the main building to poinsettias for the holidays.
I'm sure you'll like either one!

We've always stayed at POR (14 years) and love it, but POFQ is lovely as well and smaller. We just don't care for the New Orleans styling or decor and much prefer the feeling of the old south at POR.

I've stayed at both and loved both. However, we prefer POFQ for a couple of reasons:
1. size- it is much smaller and a short walk to the bus stop, food court, etc. from any room
2. buses- the two resorts share buses with POFQ being picked up first and dropped off first- always should have a seat
Both are beautiful. POFQ is like a clean New Orleans- jazz music in the background of the grounds- very cool. The mansions at POR are absolutely beautiful. With small children, we will go to POFQ b/c of the size - it helps the smaller legs!!!
You can't go wrong either way. Have a magical trip!princess:

Thank you for your replies. This helps a lot. I checked out the rooms at both places and they seem to be alomost identical with the exception of the decor. They seem pretty small. Did you feel cramped?

We have three people in them and we don't feel cramped but we aren't in them a lot. The beds are only full beds and not queens. That is the case in all moderates.

Animal Kingdom Lodge's rooms are about 30 sq feet larger with a separate bathroom and they are much roomier. Some may depend on what you are used to ... we don't mind POFQ or Riverside ... but they aren't large.

Less than a week since our stay at POR and I just wanted to point out that the mansion section of the resort has just completed renovation and are new while only a portion of the Alligator Bayou section has been renovated. We got an unrenovated room, it was clean and nice, we just noticed things like worn out carpet and cracked bathroom tiles. I believe the newer rooms were getting refrigerators, we went out and bought a cooler from Target. Also, I'm not sure when you are going but last week they were working on the bridge to the Bayou section so you just needed to walk through building to get to the lobby or boat docks. Just a few extra steps around the construction.
I believe FQ just completed a renovation last spring.
Just wanted to give you a heads up regarding room conditions. Enjoy your stay, either way I don't think you can go wrong.

Thanks Caleb's Mom! I was hoping all room were completed in the FQ. I think they are, one less worry!

CJMoms5 --- I figured we'll hardly be in our rooms except to sleep so I hope it won't be an issue. I'm just amazed that the closets are tiny too. Once a family of 4 gets in there I don't think you'll be able to see floor!!! We looked into AK but it's alot more $$ a night. Would do it if I felt we'd be spending substantial time in the room. This is our first trip and we'll be out all day and all night.

I stayed at POFQ for five days this past august and loved it. We found the theming to be discreet and the grounds very peaceful after long days in the parks.

The resort is quite small and the bus was uncrowded and prompt...

With that scenario I think you will be fine. You will need to either bring hangers with you (as my DH prefers) or when you get there call and specifically request how many you need.

I'm not sure with the remodel but they also have a armoir that has drawers. I am thinking there were two small drawers and four deep drawers.

The other thing is that they have a bench where you can set luggage on top of ... and underneath... at POR in AB section the bench is solid so you lose that space.

We typically bring a large stroller and fit that plus all our luggage and us in there without a problem. Then again, we don't spend tons of time in the room.

With this being your first time, you will be very tired at night, and I assume going all day. We used to come back during the middle of the day and take a rest for a couple hours and/or swim ... which broke up the day ... and then go back out. By the time we got back, we usually were ready to crash. Then with morning we were up and at it again.

We stayed at the POFQ for 9 years before we decided to venture to AKL. Since we've been to DW about 12-14 times, we do spend more time in the room and at the resort when we are at AKL. And, during off peak season, we are only paying $40 more per night for AKL Savannah view than we are paying for POFQ over the Thanksgiving weekend. It seems to work for us.

I'm sure you will enjoy the POFQ...we really like it. And, since it has all just been refurbished, it should be very nice and new looking.

Be sure to take the boat to Downtown Disney, it is a nice ride and a good break.

We are huge fans of POR, staying there again in December.

Our young son preferred POR and so did I. I liked the spacious grounds and nice size pool. It's also handy to have a full restaurant and the bar is hopping at night and fine for all ages!

We've stayed in both Alligator Bayou and the Mansions and I think that Alligator Bayou was much quieter. I always specified a room NOT facing a pool and also one upstairs for maximum peace and quiet. The only thing we heard during our last stay was frogs and crickets. :)

Have fun whichever you choose!

Once a family of 4 gets in there I don't think you'll be able to see the floor!!!

We stayed at POR (then Dixie Landings) with a family of 5, and didn't feel overly crowded. Our kids were 6, 8 & 10 at the time. We usually came back to the room for a swim and a nap mid-day, and it was fine. We really liked the beautiful grounds.

Of course, when we stayed at BWI, and then the Poly, we loved the extra room!;)
