:hippie:Hi Everyone,
So, I need a psychiatrist. We just got home Sept 5. We did not have a very good trip:sad1: Our middle (11)son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes the day we got home. I want to replace the not so great memories with the typical awesome :cool1: memories. I couldn't wait to get home--now I can't wait to get back:confused3 My issue is I have to book today:confused:. Our oldest son (17) doesn't want to come(he's in Grade 12) I think he will change his mind, but I can't be sure. If he doesn't come I want stay at Carribean beach. If he comes we can't stay there because we are a family of 5. Our youngest child is 4, but she loves to sleep in the pack and play. After all of this, my question is if we just booked CBR and took our chances with our oldest son if he came just kept quiet about him. I really want to stay at CBR. Would it be a problem to just not mention him if he comes?

Yes it would be a problem. It is a fire safety hazzard. I would just book POR to be safe. Not sure how long you are going for and how many school days he would miss, but at that age, it can be difficult to miss a lot of school.

Hi,
Wow you are in the same situation as me.
Sorry to hear about your son. My 5 year old daughter has type 1 and was diagnosed at 18 months of age. It is very difficult in the beginning but you will get through it and will become part of your lifestyle. If you have any questions you are more than welcome to e-mail me and i will answer any questions or concerns you have. I too have a situation where my daughter is in the 12th grade (she came with us to Disney in August). Originally wasnt going to go back for 3 years but i kind of easily talked my DH into going again next year if we stay in a mod resort. Plus he enjoyed himself so he will gladly go back. Anyway my daughter is telling me she doesnt want to go in Aug 2010 (and then she will say something different to my husband like she isnt sure) but i dont believe her and feel she will change her mind last minute. This is really affecting where we make our reservations. We stayed at CR last trip but now have to go to moderate since we are going again soon so only place that would accommodate 5 would be POR in the moderate standard room range. But i really want to go to either CSR or CBR. Now the question do i book POR just incase she decides to change her mind last minute, or do i take her word for it and just book the hotel that I really want to go to that will accommodate 4 of us which would be CSR or CBR???? I booked CSR a few days ago for Aug 2010 now not sure if i should play it safe and change it to POR.
Going back to you Im not sure if the year difference in age will matter with going to CBR, maybe you can try to do it. Or just play it safe and book POR in the meantime. During the summer i did see availability for CBR standard rooms well into the end of the summer. I was curious as to how booked up Disney was going to be so i would check a few different resorts. You may be able to just change your reservation when you know he definitely doesnt want to go and may still luck out.

Remember that CSR has queen sized beds whereas POR has the twin/full size beds. In addition, if you are not picky about POR or POFQ, I'd go with POFQ if you will be utilzing bus transportation. POFQ gets picked up/dropped off first. Just try to hop on a bus in the morning at any of the POR bus stops. We got back a month ago from a POFQ/WLCL stay and we felt sorry for everyone at the POR bus stops as our bus nearly filled up at the first stop. All they could do was wait for the next bus. So, trying to utilize EMH while at POR using bus service can be a bit of a :headache:. If you have a car, then this wouldn't matter much. Just thought I'd share my experience with POR/POFQ bus service.

Keeping quiet about your son could be a problem if you do early entry into a park. He won't have a KTTW card. Not all CM's check your card for early entry but some do. A couple of trips back we went to early entry at Epcot. I had my card, as well as my son and daughter's card. My husband forgot his card in our car. We had a cast member that would not let him in because he didn't have his card to show. He had to go back to our car to get his card.

Maybe book whatever resort you want right now. You could always change your resort if you have to when you know what's going on with your son.

Sorry about your middle son, hope all goes well for him.

I would let your son know that he has 2 or 3 days to make his decision as to whether or not he wants to come. If he still says no after that, book CBR. Be sure to let him know that he cannot change his mind if you are in the position of not being able to change resorts for free. It sounds like he is hitting that age where he wants to be independent and do his own thing. I am not sure if it is the same for Canadian bookings, but in the US you can change your reservation up to 45 days before the trip without any penalty. The main issue would be if the rooms were all booked up. I do know AB rooms book up sooner than MB rooms, because a lot of groups of 5 do stay at POR in the AB rooms.
If it was me, I'd definitely book CBR, especially with the neat theme and the pool. I'd like to stay there on my next trip if we can't do BC or BW. :wizard:

Thanks for the tips. Yes i know CSR has the queen beds that is one thing that is drawing me there if it will only be the 4 of us. My DH is 6'3 so the beds can be very small for him. We may just take our car for certain things so that shouldnt be a problem.

We are a family of 6 and I have to get 2 rooms for those resorts! Good luck with the Diabetes, my family has battled it for years.

We have stayed at both resorts, and just returned from POR last Sunday. Out of the two resorts our favorite by far is POR. We had a great week and never had a problem with the buses at all.

I wish you the best of luck with your son.
