POR, Mansions or AB?

Okay I have been booked to go for my honeymoon for about 6 months now. I have booked CBR for 7 nights and AKL for 7 nights. I was hoping to split my CBR reservation, 3 nights prior to the wedding staying at CBR and 4 nights staying at POR. I had hoped to do 4 nights at WL, but I can't justify the extra cost as this honeymoon is already costing a fortune:eek: I have decided to surprise my fiance by splitting the stay as he always wanted POR but I thought CBR would be better.
So my question is, which part of POR is better, the mansions or the AB. I have been searching these threads for the past hour or so, looking at pics and threads, but I still can't decide. I don't need to be close to the food court or buses as we like to walk. I love the look of the exterior of the mansions but I can't seem to find an up to date pic of the interior.
Can anyone help?

Thanks

Have you checked out this site yet? allears.net/acc/g_dxl.htm

We have stayed in both AB and the mansions. They are both very nice. If you don't mind the walk, any area would be great. AB is situated in a lot of trees and greenery, while the Mansions are more out in the open. The mansions have elevators, and AB does not if that matters to you. Good luck on your decision.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

We honeymooned at POR too!!!! I prefer the mansions but that's because I love the Old South and the interiors of the mansions seem much more elegant than AB. We met a couple who was also honeymooning but staying in AB and they wished they had a room in the mansions...they said it just seemed more romantic, but it's really all about your taste and what you like.

Definitely check out the pics on allearsnet.com. They will give you a great idea of which style you will prefer.

i think it really comes down to personal taste. Mansions are very 'south' with beautiful woodwork/fancy stuff. AB is more 'rustic' - more cottage/log cabin. We are more 'log cabin-ish' and chose to stay in AB Building 14 - and really loved it!

I do not have anything to compare it to, since we only stayed at POR once (will again end of June beginning of July). But we stayed in the Acadian House. It was nice. A quiet pool was right behind our building. It was a walk to the food court, but it was a nice walk. Very pretty. My boys and DD kept trying to find alligators in the river with no success!!!

I could be wrong, but probably more families would be in AB section because of the closeness to the food court and main pool. Plus, that is where most family of 5's go. (However we are a family of 5 and did not stay in AB section). So maybe it would be less "active" not being in the AB section. But when we were there in the busy time, it was a quiet resort regardless of where we were.

Congrats! Have a wonderful time. I wish we would have honeymooned at WDW. I just wish we would have had a honeymoon! But we will be celebrating our 15th this coming July at POR!

Hello Caitlin,

Congrats on your nuptials and plans for the honeymoon. As soon as I read the word "honeymoon" I knew the MANSIONS would be the best option for you! We have stayed at POR many times, for extended periods of time when DD was younger (as she preferred this resort for many reasons). We stayed in OAK Manor, in different rooms including Waterfront, Courtyard, Garden, etc.

We have even stayed in a separate location on the top floor of this building, where the associate informed me they rarely place guests (not many rooms available, and it's usually reserved for DISNEY CM's/business associates). It was super-easy to access via elevator, seemingly roomier than our corner room, and the views were fabulous! :goodvibes

AB is cute as well, but much more basic/rustic than the mansions. It always appeared as if a raccoon would pop out from behind the TV cabinet, or a opossum suddenly hang-down from the tree-branch bunk bed frame! (LOL). It was not garish or stark, but tastefully done backwater decor (ever watch the movie the "Waterboy" with Adam Sandler? His mama's house is akin to the AB ones!). The "cabinish" term someone used in an above post to describe them is PERFECT! They are like a cabin set in the midst of the swamp. It's all a matter of personal taste, and what the two of you expect/want on your special honeymoon trip.

The Mansions are located in the center of beautifully manicured landscaped grounds, with white gazebos, arbors and pergolas. The Sassagoula river is visible from many of the rooms (request a water-view). There are benches and hanging flower pots, blooming fragrant magnolias and flower-lined walkways. All you need is a "gone with the wind" type of gown and umbrella or parasol as you take your husband's arm and simply "stroll along the pathways" at dusk in pure southern style (as the Belles used to at Cypress Gardens)!

The mansions clearly reflect the ever-so-regal and great Antebellum period estates of the south. The interiors are refined in decor, and truly elegant/clean. It's romantic as well, which fits perfectly with any honeymoon. You could also arrange a horse/carriage ride for the two of you at dusk/sunset (if they still offer these rides), which would be another honeymoon-type activity.

Generally, we personally prefer the mansions (mainly Oak Manor) over the AB. Yet, it is truly personal taste. As another poster urged, take a long look at the site mentioned, and view the photos of both types of accommodations. Whatever you choose, I wish you both a lovely and memorable honeymoon visit! :cloud9:

Hi Caitlin, we will be at POR on the 25th of August for 5 days and are having the same problem in deciding which part to stay in!!
Mind you we are not honeymooning but will be celebrating or 14th wedding anniversary on the 21st August the day after your nuptials:love: .
Anyway it won't be just the two of us like yourselfs as we have a 10 and 11 year old girls.
We have been leaning towards the AB section but then I see pictures of the Mansions and change my mind!!!! I'm driving my hubbie bonkers:crazy:

And to the OP, congradutions on your wedding. You sure are lucky to be relaxing and spending all your time at WDW.

I would love to stay in the Mansions also!!
We are going at end of Sept. and I
going to make a quest for Mansions
and cross everything to get it.
