So my question is, which part of POR is better, the mansions or the AB. I have been searching these threads for the past hour or so, looking at pics and threads, but I still can't decide. I don't need to be close to the food court or buses as we like to walk. I love the look of the exterior of the mansions but I can't seem to find an up to date pic of the interior.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Hello Caitlin,
Congrats on your nuptials and plans for the honeymoon. As soon as I read the word "honeymoon" I knew the MANSIONS would be the best option for you! We have stayed at POR many times, for extended periods of time when DD was younger (as she preferred this resort for many reasons). We stayed in OAK Manor, in different rooms including Waterfront, Courtyard, Garden, etc.
We have even stayed in a separate location on the top floor of this building, where the associate informed me they rarely place guests (not many rooms available, and it's usually reserved for DISNEY CM's/business associates). It was super-easy to access via elevator, seemingly roomier than our corner room, and the views were fabulous!
AB is cute as well, but much more basic/rustic than the mansions. It always appeared as if a raccoon would pop out from behind the TV cabinet, or a opossum suddenly hang-down from the tree-branch bunk bed frame! (LOL). It was not garish or stark, but tastefully done backwater decor (ever watch the movie the "Waterboy" with Adam Sandler? His mama's house is akin to the AB ones!). The "cabinish" term someone used in an above post to describe them is PERFECT! They are like a cabin set in the midst of the swamp. It's all a matter of personal taste, and what the two of you expect/want on your special honeymoon trip.
The Mansions are located in the center of beautifully manicured landscaped grounds, with white gazebos, arbors and pergolas. The Sassagoula river is visible from many of the rooms (request a water-view). There are benches and hanging flower pots, blooming fragrant magnolias and flower-lined walkways. All you need is a "gone with the wind" type of gown and umbrella or parasol as you take your husband's arm and simply "stroll along the pathways" at dusk in pure southern style (as the Belles used to at Cypress Gardens)!
The mansions clearly reflect the ever-so-regal and great Antebellum period estates of the south. The interiors are refined in decor, and truly elegant/clean. It's romantic as well, which fits perfectly with any honeymoon. You could also arrange a horse/carriage ride for the two of you at dusk/sunset (if they still offer these rides), which would be another honeymoon-type activity.
Generally, we personally prefer the mansions (mainly Oak Manor) over the AB. Yet, it is truly personal taste. As another poster urged, take a long look at the site mentioned, and view the photos of both types of accommodations. Whatever you choose, I wish you both a lovely and memorable honeymoon visit!
