POR family of 5 for 9 nights????

We've done it before with 5 including two 17 year olds and a 10 year old- it's possible! It sounds like it will work being that you don't spend much time in the room. As long as you get a shower schedule, it should be no drama. If it saves $1,000 and you can stay 9 nights at Disney- that's awesome. Your family will have a great time and POR is a fantastic resort!

I hope the OP comes back and explains how it is a thousand more to stay in 2 value rooms vs 1 room at POR. From what I can find that isn't possible. Unless they are paying next to nothing for POR.

Mousesavers lists rack rate for almost all of August to be $170/$190 a night at POR. An All Star would be $90/$110. Pop would be $100/$120 a room. Going by rack rate the OP would only be paying $1230 for a week at POR. And only $1480 for a week with 2 rooms at Pop. Even if you add 2 more weekend nights (which are the higher rates) that would only be another $100 difference between the 2 choices.

As PPs have said, you cannot move the murphy bed. And it is in an awkward spot. Its also small and meant for kids ages 9 and under so if you have a bigger 9 year old, he or she may not be comfortable. A lot of people bring a twin air mattress to put in between the bed and the door which might be more comfortable and less in the way.

Personally, I think you will be squished in POR. If your kids were little, you may be able to swing it. But with the murphy beds, there is very little storage space as well.

Thanks everyone!!!! I just ran the figures using the summer discount rates. I came up with $2145.81 for two rooms at POP with the discount and $1307.20 for 1 room at POR. The difference is $838.00. Our dates are July 31-August 9 so a few days fall into a higher rate :( I know that staying off site is an option, but we never rent a car and the dining plan is a MUST for us, so that really won't work for us. We are already over budget so I am thinking I will have to be super creative and we will have to make POR work. We really do only use the room to sleep and shower/dress. We take our breaks by the pool or nap together...we all go to bed and wake at the same time. My only worry is that my 9 year old won't be comfy and I want him to feel like he has a real bed not a crib!

For you dates with discount I am coming up with $1470 for a room at POR (going off of the rack rate from WDW.com of $1838.25) and $2145 for 2 rooms at the Pop. Still almost a $700 difference but over $100 more than what you are figuring. Two rooms at the All Stars would be $1897.47. So only a $420 difference.

I always run the numbers for mine and my sister's families when we go to WDW. I think it is kind of fun, so I hope you don't take offence.

We have done 8 days at POR as a family of 5 (before remodel) and 7 days last year (after remodel. We were fine.

My (at the time) 5'0" 10 year old slept on it just fine last year, in fact, she's disappointed we won't be there this year! She didn't feel uncomfortable at all.
