Hey all...
Looking for yet another bit of guidance. right now, I'm scheduled for a solo week in POR’s Alligator Bayou. A few posts I've read made me think maybe I should consider the mansions. I made the bayou decision based on falling in love with some of the photos of the grounds. I don't mind walking to the bus or food court or whatever. I'm pretty confident I made the right decision, but figured a little feedback, good or bad, wouldn't hurt! Thanks!

Richard

Stayed in both. Favorable stays at both. Some posters have said rooms in AB i think #14 in particular were a bit shabby. Stayed in #17 and in Magnolia Terrace. Both were neat clean rooms. 17 was too far from food court. Very close to parking lot. Magnolia was a bit far also. Very close to bus stop. Enjoy!

I think it depends on what you like as far as theming. If you like the look of Alligator Bayou go for it! I liked the more romantic look of the mansions and went with them for our stay and loved it!

I've stayed in both sections of POR also, and definitely prefer the AB section because of the landscaping. That's where we'll be staying in December since we'll be five people in one room. I think that, coming from Fort Lee, you'll appreciate even more all the greenery and space between the buildings!;) (I have family in Guttenberg and West New York, and I'm originally from Jersey City.)

Whatever you decide, you'll love it!

Stayed at the mansions but after walking around liked AB much better.

I've stayed in both and definitely prefer the Bayou. So much more atmosphere and more fun, IMHO.

The choice may not be yours, even if you've requested the Bayou, you could still end up in the Mansions. On our last visit to POR we had requested the Bayou when we made the reservation (over a year in advance), it happened to be the weekend they closed POFQ and moved everyone to POR so we ended up with a Mansion room, though we did not know this until the bellman started driving in that direction and we asked where we were going. ;)

But, whichever area you end up in, you will enjoy POR. It's great!

I loved AB on our recent trip. I hadn't requested it, since we hadn't stayed at POR before, and figured either would be nice, but the atmosphere and theming were the best I've seen so far.

If you've requested AB, don't give it a second thought. We were in building 18 (smoking optional), and it was only a couple of minutes to the food court and lobby. And the quite pool in our cluster was beautiful.

Ciao,
Mort.

If you paid extra for a water-view, be sure to ask for a RIVER-view. Being able to check out the pool outside your window is not nearly as "thematic" as a beautiful view of trees and the river. If you didn't pay extra, it won't matter, because how much time will you spend looking out the window? Corner rooms have two windows. I like the 'gator bayou because it's where I stayed on my first visit to the World. It's even more attractive in person than in pictures! :Pinkbounc :bounce: I can see how the mansions might be nice, too. POR will be even better when the French Quarter renovations are finished, because then you can use their pool and go to their restaurant (if you can't now). You can rent a bike or go walking at POR. The boatride to DTD is also really nice. The buses run around the perimeter, so it's very convenient wherever you are. Having a car is also great to visit other resorts. :)

We've stayed in both and preferred the mansions. They just seemed to be much better themed than AB, which just seemed like hotel buildings placed in the woods. Just my two cents and I really believe you can't go wrong either way. Have fun!

I've been thinking about staying at POR again and have only stayed in the mansions on our previous visits. I've been thinking about staying in AB next time. I figured it would seem like a different hotel and after reading everyones opinions I think I might stay in the bayou after all.

I have stayes in both sections. i really liked AB on our first stay. The forrest is really nice and it feels like you are more isolated. I also loved the rustic interiors. I am not a big fan of the southern mansion styling. A few months ago I stayed at POR and request the Mansion section just to try it out. I was in Parterre Place overlooving the courtyard, fountain and river. It was wonderfull. It felt like something inbetween a moderate and deluxe resort and really felt mor like being in the south of the past than at AB. I recommend both sections though. You will not have a bad time at either.

We stayed in building 27 Alligator Bayou on the second floor with the water view. It was great! We were overlooking the river. With our view we could see the great big water wheel outside the food court. It was the corner room. We stayed there in March of this year.
