After reading ALOT of negative reviews on POR (and leaving for there in 11 days) does anyone have any positve reviews? What did you like best? Where did you stay? How was the food court area? (We have a rental so dont have to worry about buses)-Thanks.....:hippie:

:) We just got back from POR this morning and had a wonderful stay! We were in AB building 15 and loved it. We don't use the busses so I have no comment on that. The Mousekeeping was great, the room very clean and the grounds beautiful!! The food court was VERY crowded in the mornings if you didn't time it right, but lots of the resorts have that same issue.
We have stayed at most on property resorts. This was our 2nd time at POR and would love to stay there again.:)

We have stayed at POR 5 times and LOVED it every time. We are a family of 5 and we have been very comfortable in the rooms until this year. Our youngest is now 6yo and so we have bought into DVC so that we would have more space. We have always alternated b/w POR and POLY.

Food court has always been good, housekeeping good. We take our own car so we drive to the parks 90% of the time so we have not done the buses too many times.

I have friends who are at POR right now and they have called to say how happy they are in the resort.

Love Ol' Man's Island pool. I guess you could say that we just really love the whole place!!

We stayed there Sept 04 and LOVED it. We were the the Acadia house with a lovely view overlooking some gardens and the river. It was quiet, calm and very enjoyable for 2 adults with no kids. We did the carriage ride, enjoyed a boat ride and the various pools, all were wonderful. The food court was very clean fast with friendly staff, we found lots of options to eat in the AM.

Have a great time!

;) you will enjoy port orleans. there are alot good points that outweigh the negatives. most of the time the negative things are someone's pet peeves and nothing else. we have stayed at several resorts and enjoy each one for what it was. Of course we all have our favs though! (so far mine is the Poly-no doubt!- but there are even folks that don't like that resort)
PLUSES for me....
I love the food court at port orleans
I love that there is a nice boat ride to downtown dis
I absolutely love the grounds and the quiet pools.
I say to each is own where resorts are concerned, each person has different expectations, personalities and tastes.
One thing I will say objectively is that the time that we were there ( last September) the bus system wasn't so hot ( AT TIMES) you have to share with pofq.
But I said it before: Your at Disney! Unless the rooms are filthy dirty and you receive bad customer service....don't worry be happy!;)

Well I will tell you this.....my dh and I stay at POR every Feb and we LOVE it. It is clean, romantic, the transportation is great, the pools are awesome, the laundry rooms are clean, and my dh really likes the food court. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. Go for it. You won't be sorry. enjoy

I was there 8/26-8/30. It was my first time staying at this hotel and I loved it. Although the hotel was sold out, I never felt/saw the effects. We never had a long wait for a bus and/or boat, mousekeeping was wonderful, check in was quick and easy. I can't wait to go back. It is a beautiful, relaxing hotel. Enjoy your trip!

I agree with kimis, it is romantic. This trip I took DS11 alone (he always seems to get the short end of the stick so I thought he deserved this). I would love to go back with just DH and I for a long weekend.

We went there for the 1st time last May. We were in AB 38. It is the building closest to the mansions. We loved the resort. Beautiful grounds and very quiet. We didn't see any other guests walk by our room the whole week. As far as the food court we only ate there one night and only got burgers which were fine. We had breakfast at Boatrights one morning, my DW had the sweet potatoe pancakes that she said were great. We are staying there again next May and she can't wait to have them again. The quiet pools are very nice. We walked over to the closest one in the mansions and used that pool more than the main pool. Mousekeeping was fine, room was always clean. We rented a boat and did the carriage ride also. We rented a car so I don't know how the busses were. Hope you have fun.:)

We just got back yesterday and liked it. We requested AB but got put in #85 Magnolia which was ok with us. It was directly across from the pool and the food court. The rooms were nice and clean. The grounds pretty. I liked the courtyard for our mansion which was so pretty and quiet. The main pool was FUN! I loved the pools! LOL! They were heated but just enough to take the chill off. It was lovely after as hot and long day. We also did the quiet pool right next door to us. That was just as nice. No slide or sprays but nice all the same. The laundry was there and we went there so I could throw in a load and swim and then dry it and swim:lmao: We never got to do the carriage ride. Suggestion....book it the night before or in the morning. We did do the boat to POFQ. That was a nice trip there and back. We went and walked around that resort and had a snack and road back. The food court was busiest at 8am. If you go before that....no problem. If you go after 9am....no problem. If you plan to go at 8/8:30...expect a crowd. If you are an early riser....only the bakery, cereal and fast grab section is open. Hot meals start at 7am. I found the food to be good there. Selection IMO was rather limited. The POFQ has a bigger selection so maybe a walk there or boat ride might be a nice change. Mainly there was chickenfingers/fish baskets, pizza (which I thought was good), hamburgers, salads, hot turkey or roast beef platters and pasta. Kids meals were mainly mac and cheese, burgers, nuggets, pasta or pizza. Forget the chocolate cake. Go for the brownie! OMG that was good!
We also ate at the resturant. I wasn't impressed with that. My steak was well done (when I asked for med well) and dry. I didn't like the salad. But it wasn't bad. And they did a hamburger for my 14 year old that didn't want anything on the menu and also replaced the desserts with milkshakes that we took back to our room. That was nice. They really work with you. The chef was great.
I found service to be good. Even though they forgot my extra pillows 3 days....in general most things were done and on time and staff was friendly.

Oh and I found the most days the bus routes started pick up at the west/north/east depot and headed around to the south (which is the main front depot). There was never a crowd at the east depot there so we always got seats. The south depot is the busiest. Then the bus would head to POFQ on some trips. By then it is standing room only.

Return trips they dropped off at the POFQ 1st, then south (front of the building) and ended with the east. If we stayed on till the east, we were often the last ones on! Everyone jumps off at the south.

Over all I liked it there. I would stay again.

We were there for 9 nights 8/17-8/26 and LOVED IT!

Check-in was quick and easy - due to a late plane and a lost piece of luggage, we ended up checking in at about 11:30pm!

I had requested a room in AB, and was initially disappointed when we were put in Magnolia Terrace. We ended up loving our rooms and loving our location. It is a beautiful resort!

We used both the quiet pool near our room, as well as the main pool, and enjoyed both very much. We did not have many meals in the foodcourt, but it was OK when we used it. I have to say, I prefer the foodcourt at CSR, because it has more choices. But I found the foodcourt at POR MUCH better than the one at POP. We ate one breakfast at Boatwrights which was great, and the rest of my family ate their for dinner without me one night and enjoyed that as well.

Housekeeping was terrific - our housekeeper was very patient with us and got into our room to clean even when we didn't leave until 1pm! She also paid attention to what we were using, and gave us lots of extra coffee cups without being asked.

We needed to use the concierge a few times on this trip, and found them unfailingly friendly, quick and competent.

We had a wonderful time, and would not hesitate to go back. Have a great trip!

Hey I stayed in POR in 2005 and really liked it. We were put in the Bayou section, but we knew people in Magnolia Mansions - I would def request the mansions if i went again.
The food court was lovely, no different to any of the other moderates - have been to POFQ and CB, and we rented the little speedboats from the lake outside which was fun! The pool area was nice too, but it was crowded when I was there.
Am sure you will enjoy your stay!

I went to POR figuring I'd hate it. The theme does nothing for me, but I had to cross it off my list of Disney Hotels, because I am on a quest to stay in all of them. (Still gotta do Pop and SSR.)

I didn't hate it, I liked it very much. The foliage is plentiful...lush, green stuff everywhere you look. Pretty during the day and at night. My room was pretty and clean...and I didn't find anything in it that was left by a previous guest! :woohoo:

The food court at POR is officially my favorite. Very nice - calm and relaxing. I had a good salad, a good pasta-bar, and something else that I liked (I just don't remember what it was.) There was a guy who played piano, sang silly songs and told some jokes in the bar. I wouldn't make a special trip to POR to see him...but since we happened to be going to the bar anyway :rolleyes1 it was very cool.

There are a bunch of smaller pools, so they are less crowded than some, which I enjoyed oh-so-very-much.

I did get attacked by a tree frog, but that's another post. Suffice to say that if you happen to be walking the grounds at night and suddenly feel a slimy sucky thing on your leg you don't have to start screaming and leaping about - it isn't an alien that's going to suck your blood or anything.

I paid for a water view, as I often do. But this is the one and only time I regretted it. Wouldn't do it again. It isn't a body of water, like other places - more canal-like. Although it is pretty when you leave the room, you pretty much have to leave the room to see it. I'd have been just as happy with a courtyard (or whatever it is called) view.

I do not much care for the theme at either of the Orleans resorts and wouldn't choose to go back. But that's me - I prefer CSR or CBR. Considering that I thought I'd hate it, the fact that I liked it says a lot. If you like the theme, you could very well have an excellent stay!

just got back from a trip 8/25 to 9/2 and posted on another thread if interested.
LOVED IT!!

DH and I have been there many times (see my signature) and have always loved our stay there. It is a beautiful resort.

We stayed there 8/12-8/18 for the first time and we absolutely loved it! We were in AB 16 right by the quiet pool and it was such a nice quiet location! We had great mousekeeping and the food court was great! No complaints from us! We will be back again!!

Thanks for the reviews.....Hey COOLBEANS, after reading all the posts I am glad yours was the only one that mentions attacks by tree frogs....ha ha ha...that would NOT be fun as I am NOT a froggy kind of gal. ha ha ha! Can't wait for our trip! It is coming up fast!!!!:cool1:
