I looked on this site- http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ and looked up the year I was born. None of the girl names are at all in style anymore! I guess you can tell you are old when noone wants to name their baby girls the names everyone in your class had (boy names have more staying power).

I was given a "top 10" name when I was born. I gave my daughter a top 400first name with a Top 10 middle name. .

Boy, do I feel old! I bolded all the siblings and close friend names: There's me *Cathy* and my sisters Barbara & Patricia, brother Thomas, cousins David and Steven, SIL Donna, best friends Debra, Diane and her sister Carol.

The first time I realized that my name indicated a 1950s trend was when I worked in a 40-bed NICU. I was assigned to a pod of 6 infants with 4 other middle-aged nurses: Cathy, Kathy, Cathy,and Judy. When they made out the assignments the High Poo-bahs just looked at the last names and didn't realize that the FIRST names were identical. 'Course, it saves time when you can stand at the end of the pod and just yell, "hey Cathy!" Statistically speaking you have an 80% chance of calling the right name.

My youngest is a Katie. She was going to be Jenna (she is 3) but my dh told me to keep the K name since I am Kerri & my oldest dd is Kelli. My ds is a Jr so we are not very original. Oh & Katie is her given name, not Katelyn, Katlyn, Katherine, etc.... People kept asking me why, well those names I didn't like (sorry if you have them but they are not me) & I wasn't going to call her by those names but I was going to call her Katie (it also had to be a 5 letter K name since I am a bit psychotic in that area).

I was born in the early 70's. I'm a Jennifer. I grew up in a small town, 68 kids in my grade. Five of us were Jennifers. It was ridiculous. We each spelt our named differently to help differentiate who we were... there was a Jennifer, Jenny, Jenni (me), Jen, and Jenn. When I changed school in high school I was happy to be just Jen, amoung many, many Jens. To this day when I hear someone in a crowd yelling "JEN" I don't turn and look because, odds are, its not me they are yelling for. Kinda like the "MOM" yell..... one kid yells it, they all look.
