Pope traffic!

Anyone dealing with Pope-related traffic hassles for their trip? DH, kids, and I are leaving the SJ Philly suburbs and driving, either on 9/26 or maybe 9/25 after school. I'm a little worried about how the roads will be. Sis, her family, and our mom are flying out of PHL on 9/27. We're thinking they might have to drive from SJ and over the DelMemBridge to DE, and then back up to the airport!

Does anyone have any plans or ideas? I guess I need to just remember that I'm going to the happiest place on earth, even if I have some traffic hassles on the way!

I'm in Delaware County. You'll be fine if you stay on the Jersey side, just stay on the NJTPK or 295. For you sister coming to the airport, tell her to take the Commodore Barry, it's not much further South than the airport.

I would leave on Friday right after school or, if possible, get a little bit of an early dismissal. Don't count on NJ having no issues. We live about 10 miles east of Center City and dh works for Camden County. As of now he's been told that 676 on the NJ side of the BFB will be closed to traffic to be used as a parking lot for around 2000 buses. I think that won't happen until Saturday but with overall increased traffic in the area and so many roads closed I expect it to be backed up in all directions around the city. jmho.
If you must wait til Saturday to leave, I'd be doing it at around 2-3 am at the latest. Have you considered flying on Spirit out of AC? or Frontier out of Trenton? Then you wouldn't have to deal with traffic heading into Philly at all.

They can use the Walt Whitman or Commodore Barry depending on where they are coming from to get to the airport.Just plan on double the time to get to the airport to be safe .He is flying out of PHL on the 27th but it is early evening so if they are leaving in the morning or afternoon the airport shouldn't be too affected. I live in the Camden County suburbs and am not sure if it is going to be crowded or they have scared everyone away. The Ben Franklin will be a no go as they are shutting it down on Friday night.

Best bet is to use Com. Barry. With B. Franklin closed most will use the Whitman to cross and it will be nuts.
