I have friends that are planning to go to WDW and stay at Pop Century Dec 6-11. I believe Pop Warners football and cheerleader kids are there that weekend. Does anyone know which Disney resorts are usually overrun by the teens? I think Pop Century is one of them. Is it all the value resorts? This is the couple's very first trip to WDW and I don't want them to have a bad time because they are at a hotel filled with screaming teens. Thanks for your help!

all star sports is the one that Disney wants them to use, next is music.

that say - some parents and teens know that Pop is the closes hotel to WWoS - and will stay there and allow their teens to walk.

disney provides transportation from the All stars to WWoS. It doesn't provide transportation from Pop directly to WWoS.

if this happens to your friends - most of the Pop warners is very nice kids - only a few give them a bad name. there is also an advantage to staying at Pop. this is not Pop bread and butter like the All star sports. So if they are causing you or your friends not to sleep - call the front desk. Security will ask them to be quiet.

of course the opposite is true too - if you call and complain and Security does not find this to be a problem. You might be asked to move. because you are complaining.

Thanks for the help! I know most of the kids are good and I've never had a problem with any of them in the parks (we're at WDW in early December, too.)
I just remember reading horror stories about some of the value resorts with the loud cheering, etc. and I couldn't remember which ones. I'll pass along the info that Pop "should" be okay but there are no gaurantees.

Our high school team goes every year and was offered ASSports or CBR. Last year we attempted to stay at POP and they refused us saying they will not book a block of rooms at that resort. They then offered POR, but my guess was because the food court was down, their reservations were down. We needed a food court for the kids so we went with ASSp.

Our middle school group was put in ASMovie and I have personally stayed with cheers at ASMu (yes it was painful). I would guess any Allstar resort will have teams.

Thanks! I've passed along the info and I think they are going to brave staying at POP since it seems that one should be fairly safe.

While it may not be totally safe, it is probably the safest of the values....

It would probably help if they asked for a room NOT facing a pool, and on an upper floor so that they are high above the "activity" if any should occur. I think most rowdiness occurs around the pool areas.

I just stayed in Bldg 3, top floor, facing the lake and it was wonderful. Quiet and peaceful. We could watch the fireworks at EPCOT and Magic Kingdom from our room. We could also see the lights etc at MGM, so if there had been a private party that week with fireworks we would have seen them (we did last year).

Thanks for the tip! I've never stayed at any of the values so I'm not much help to him for picking out their room. I'll pass along your suggestion.

I've never seen a group of Pop Warner teams staying @ POP. They're always at the AllStars & POR, although this year I believe some were offered CBR. I know that with the cheerleaders staying at POR during their competition it was horrible for us. Never any quiet down time, not even on the boats to DTD. We've stayed at the AllStars during a few Pop Warner events throughout the spring, etc, & never really had any trouble with them.

aha! This might have to do w/ why I can't get a room at Pop for Sun 12/9. All the other values are full w/ those guys spilling regular visitors over to Pop. I thought Pop Warner would be over on that Saturday. i guess I should have came here and found out before I started trying to book our trip.

Just an FYI

The Pop Warner cheerleaders also stayed at Pop in December 2004 so large school groups do stay at Pop also.

They certainly didn't take over the resort, but Pop definitely took some "spill over". So to say they won't at all effect Pop I think is false. We didn't use the Food Court in the AM, so that wasn't an issue. They were at the pool late night (being a little wild...I agree just kids being kids), after my kids were in bed, (I only saw them when I was doing laundry). Since their schedules keep them very busy at WWofS during the day, they were not a problem then. The only time they impacted my vacation was leaving the parks at night. If I can be truthful, the kids were fine; it was the chaperones...and I use that term very loosely. On 2 evenings, once at MK and once at Ep, we were waiting in line for the bus back. If there were a few of their group in line ahead they'd all cut and join them. One time the cheerleader basically said, "Mom, we can't stay up here. These people have been waiting." The mom ignored her. I am not talking about 2 or 3 people popping up to their family after a bathroom break. I am talking about groups of 10 or 12 just strolling ahead of 100 people in line. It was infuriating! Not only because it wasn't a fair thing to do, but because of the example it set for every single kid witnessing it. Mind you, I was with my DH and 3 princesses, plus 6 months pregnant at the time...

Sorry for the long story. However, I thought I should share my firsthand experience. Of course that was in 2004 and a lot could change. And I should say, I loved everything about Pop and probably would change when I go versus where I stay.

Good luck deciding.

we were at the POP for the pop warner/cheerleading week in 2004. the place was over run. you heard cheers until well past midnight. the food court was impossible to use. they were practicing their pyramids in the pool until late in the evening. i would opt for another hotel.

I stayed at PC in December 2004. The Pop Warner kids were definitely there. I specifically chose PC since I had read in multiple places that PC was not equipped for large groups and that the Pop Warner kids would be at the All Stars only. That turned out to be untrue. For one night, it shouldn't be a problem, but if you want to avoid the Pop Warner kids, stay at CSR or a deluxe. Pop Warner has yet to announce what resorts are available this year, but in years past they have been at CBR, POR, and POFQ as well as the value resorts.

I think that they stayed at the POP the year that it first opened. I know the last few years the value resort offered in their paper work has been the Allstar Sports or Allstar Music and the moderates have been the POR and the POFQ. These are the same resorts that are offered this year.
In the past some of the groups have been at the CBR, maybe this was during some of the rehab at the POFQ or the POR.

I can confirm and pass along a few details for this years championships. First of all, members of the team must book one of the select Disney packages. So unless overflow accomodations are required, they'll have the choice of the AllStar Sports, AllStar Music, POR & POFQ. While family members may choose to stay in a different resort, the kids will have to be with their group. I'd also like to add that the kids are mostly pre-teen and early teen. I think the 9th grade is the last year they can participate in Pop Warner, so mostly 5th - 9th graders.

Also, their annual MGM party will be held the evening of December 5th. If I remember correctly, they close that park down 1 hour earlier than usual and re-open it for ticketed guests only.

We were at ASMo a few years ago during Pop Warner week, and, while thie children might have liked the theming of dalmations, my first and only request when arriving at the front desk was -- "not near Pop Warner". We were on a garden view side of mighty ducks and it was very quiet. The pools and courtyards are where the gathered to fool around/practice. They did not come around the backs of the buildings, and they were not housed in the wing of Mighty Ducks that we were in, so it worked out OK. Food court and busses were hit or miss. Sometimes there were none, other times alot. (more often for our touring times there were none.)

I would reccomend to your friend to make "away from Pop Warner" her first request at check-in for a quiet stay.

Thanks for all the great info!

Maybe after the first year Disney decided to keep Pop Century free of the Pop Warner crowd just so there'd be at least one quiet value resort available to all the other guests?

I don't remember which year it was but even our wait at the airport wasn't quiet. There was a group of cheerleaders waiting in the same area as us and they were still cheering and doing stunts even at the airport. I'd go crazy if I had a room near them.
