I'm starting to get a little concerned about all the posts I'm reading about the week the Pop Warner people are there.

First of all, I'm not even sure who they are (is this a conference?).

Secondly, I think they will be there the week we have our trip planned this year (12/3/05 - 12/10/05) - can anyone confirm this?

I've read how rude they are and how crowded it can be when they're there - does anyone have any info? If there's one thing I can't tolerate, it's rude, obnoxious people - and sometimes they seem to be everywhere at our sacred Disney World :-)!!!

I think they are groups of football players & cheerleaders, teenagers. We are going at the time they usually go, too. I also am concerned, It's an all adult trip with my DH & inlaws. We are going to MVMCP and I wonder if they will be there for any of those. I have read that they stay at the all star resorts, and we will be at boardwalk, so that should help. I don't know if they are rude or not, you never know with groups of teens, sometimes they are very well behaved.

It is a football/cheerleading association, competition, thingiemagig (Pop Warner has a web site). I don't think the dates are firm for next year yet. Honestly, unless you get sandwiched in between them at your resort, I think you will be just fine. I think that Dec was much busier this year from all the people that didn't get to take their vacations due to the storms, etc.

I'm going to be there at the same time and I'm concerned too. It will be my first trip and I'm hoping for "perfection" :earboy2:

We stayed at ASM the first week of dec in 2002, and at that point, I was not so informed as I am now (ha ha)... Anyway, we had NO IDEA what was going on with all of these boys and girls that completley took over the resort. As I know now, every first full week of december is the pop warner thing. They weren't that bad during the day, but at night, there was actual fist-fighting going on with a group of boys on the grass outside of the building across from ours. Plus there was a group of adults who would sit outside their room and drink excessively. I didn't think that it was proper behavior for wdw - don't get me wrong, I know these people are on vacation, and are entitled to have alcohol, assuming they are of age, however we found it to be disturbing. Not to mention the fact that they were so loud at night, my husband would poke his head outside to see what was going on. That was the first time we stayed at an all-star resort, and it will probably be the last.

Stay deluxe if possible. I was there during Pop Warner this year and stayed at Pop. I purposely stayed at Pop since I had read that Pop could not accomodate large groups. Pop Warner was supposed to be confined to the All Stars and overflow at POR. If I remember correctly, I read from other posters that they were at all the moderates except CSR. They can be annoying at the parks but it is much worse if they are at your resort. I won't be back to WDW during Pop Warner again.

They are football players age 7 to 16 and cheerleaders age 5 to 16. They compete in local games/competitions and the finals are at WDW in December.

I e-mailed the director a couple weeks ago. He said this year's Super Bowl is scheduled for Dec 4 to 10 but there's a possibility they may move it back a week. I also read on their message boards that WDW is promising them more rooms this year. Last year some had to stay offsite.

Unless they change things, PW groups stay at the values, POR and some off site.

Nationally competing cheerleaders ages range from 8 to 15; same for football. That doesn't mean that they won't bring their siblings!!

Unfortunately, my girls did not qualify to compete in 2004, but from what I read on these boards I guess it was a good thing. Just let me say, AGAIN, that not all cheerleaders are rude, obnoxious . . . etc. I know, I live with four Pop Warner cheerleaders. They would NEVER be permitted to behave the in the way described around here.

I agree with the previous poster, do not plan your stay at All-Stars during "Pop Warner week" unless you are a Pop Warner participant. I also whittnessed parents drinking by the pool (2000, 2001 and 2003) while their children "ran free". Some of these parents were my friends and/or my team members parents (I coach and I thought I knew these people)!!?? Me, DH and our four DD's were returning LATE from MVMCP one night, there they were drinking away, drunk as skunks with no children to be found!!! Imagine my surprise! They turned into different people on vacation!! :scared: :confused3

Never noticed a difference at any park at any of my stays with the organization.

FYI: You must purchase the "Pop Warner package" in order to participate at Nationals. In the past all All-Star resorts are offered as part of the package. In 2003 CBR was also offered and in 2004 POR was also offered. :cheer2:

Good luck!!

Wow, Kimisabella, I was starting to think maybe we had rooms next to each other with such similar experiences, but then I noticed I was there in 2003. Yes, as another poster said, we won't stay at all stars again either. Working in middle schools, the kids running loose through the food court didn't bother me too much, what bothered me was all the noise late at night and early in the morning.

I'd stay at a mod or a deluxe if you can. We are going again this year and are trying to save for the Poly.

The kids weren't a problem at the parks, just the resorts. I also didn't notice a large influx of them at the MVMCP.

Don't worry about the probability of encountering rude, obnoxious, noisy groups of cheerleaders... it is 100% certain that you WILL encounter them... everyday... many times each and every day... all through your trip.

This is from someone whose trip was mainly ruined by the PopWarner crowds.

OH YEAH!!! Now I remember why I had you on my ignore list . . . Congratulations!! You're back on!

I guess I'm back on your ignore list.

Oh well, I just don't want anybody to waste their time and money like I've wasted mine.

We attended MVMCP on both Sun 12/5 and Tuesday 12/7 and never noticed any groups of Pop Warner kids on those nights - we did witness several incidents of extremely rude behavior by adults, but in perspective of the huge amount of people you are in contact with on a WDW vacation, it was extremely minimal. We stayed at BWV, so we were not staying at the same resort - we only saw small groups of giggly girls a few times during our several days and they were well chaperoned. On our final day, we stopped at DTD McD's and the place was full with a young group in matching shirts, but again, other than the usual 10 yr old stuff, they were well behaved and chaperoned.

I'm certainly not discounting anyone else's experience with this group, just want to say that staying at a deluxe resort, we had very little contact with them in the parks, at 2 MVMCPs or at CP, and had no problems with those groups we encountered - so we will go again at that time of year, just not stay where they do. :smooth: (I wouldn't have wanted to stay at the hotel when our sports groups were travelling, either, and we're a great group of people :crazy2: - for the most part! ;) )!

We were going to stay at CBR 11-30 thru 12-08 but decided to do POFQ instead (because of the smaller size) I certainly don't want to lump all the players and cheerleaders into one, but all it takes is a few bad ones to taint the reputation of the entire group. I'm hoping we only meet courteous people all around!! What do you suppose the chances are of that??

We were there for Pop in Dec of '03. Stayed at Music. Yes, I was somewhat concerned after reading these boards. But, I didn't have a huge issue with the kids. Now, maybe I got lucky since we checked in on Friday morning. But, there were still a huge amount of kids there. The parks did not seem to be impacted. And it looked like a lot left on Sat but there were still a goodly amount on Sunday, the 14. We had a room in Jazz bldg, on the back side, away from the pool. Incredibly quiet. Yes, there were girls cheering but for the most part they were pretty well behaved.

If you're concerned, stay at POFQ. I don't think they use that resort. But, I wouldn't worry about the kids in the parks. During the week I believe they are busy with competitions and at night they have stuff planned for them. Yes, they are in the parks. But I didn't notice a huge difference.

But if you ask my dh, he might have a different story!!! He had to travel back from the Orlando area, on business, with a plane full of Medford cheerleaders. He was not a happy camper. But, most of the coaches I saw kept a pretty tight rein on the girls.

Go and have a good time. It doesn't matter when you go. You are going to run into rude and obnoxious people whenever you go!!!!!

Not when I went there during President's Week last year. Yes the parks were much more jam-packed, but I didn't encounter a single rude person.

Must have been during the St. Francis of Assisi Nun's and Friar's convention. Great weekend...I've been there during that time too. :D

Hello DisneyFreakJackie,

I understand your being defensive about your children, I am very defensive when it comes to my daughter, but I do not think FatCow's comment was directed at any of your daughters.

The fact-of-the-matter is, ALL children who are not properly instructed by their parents have the tendency to be rude, act obnoxious and annoy people. This is not cheerleaders and football players, this is ALL children.

When I go to one of our local malls here in the Dallas area, I see that the mall is over-ran with these types of kids, age range from 10 - 16, and guess what??? Same as you said in your first post, no parents around. These 14-year-olds are sitting outside smoking cigarettes, cussing like I have never heard, boys pushing one another around and not even paying attention to the people they are shoving one another into.

I am not saying this to defend FatCow, because I dont't know him, but because I just think you took his comment too personal and it was not directed at your girls. This type of behaviour can be found anywhere, but for some reason, when you are on vacation, it is just more annoying. Obviously you are a good mother and are raising your daughters right. From what your posted, you witnessed that all parents are not like you. :grouphug:

Also, I might add: It is not just kids that are rude, there are some adults that take the cake and could win an Academy on rudeness.
