We are considering a trip from Nov 28-Dec 4 2008 and staying at Pop Century. I have read in the past about Pop Warner football championships sometime during the beginning of December. Is it likely the dates will coincide? If so, will Pop Century be affected or would we be better off choosing a different resort?

Thanks in Advance,
Jennifer

I was just there during this last time while they were. I saw only one set of cheerleaders and football players. They started cheering in queue, we told them to stop bc they were annoying everybody around them and that was the end of it.

We did not see any at our resort, we stayed at the Beach Club.

MouseTrip07, I think you will just miss the Pop Warner crowd. I looked it up on their website and I believe their dates are Dec 6-11, if I am not mistaken, that is why we chose to book for Dec 13-21. I have looked at their site again and I can't find the exact dates, but they do coinside with the Mousefest dates and Mouse fest ends on Dec 15, 2008. HTH!!!!

We were at WDW in Dec 2006 when they were there and while I didn't experience them poersonally, they were a nuisance. My mom saw a bad incident in a restroom at the MK on our last night and it was some cheerleaders behaving badly. Most of what they do are just childish pranks. Seems like the crowds were heavier in the evenings as well. We experienced smaller crowd closer to Christmas, so that was also a factor in choosing our 2008 dates. I know I read on here about a really bad fight that broke out at the MK one evening between two teams and everybody with both teams was sent home.

They are usually booked at the All Star resort with over flow to I believe CBR.

It depends on how much patience you have :rotfl:
If it were our family, if PopWarner is there we would choose a different resort probably a moderate, just to make sure :thumbsup2

Thanks. I googled the Pop Warner website and tried to glean the info myself but could not find it.

We were told that historically the time in between Thanksgiving and Christmas is generally a time of low crowds. On our last trip we went in January (very low crowds) but weather was iffy. This time we thought we'd like to see the holiday decorations, but would prefer to avoid the nuisances I've read about related to Pop Warner crowds.

Thanks again,
Jennifer

Hi everyone!
Found this board while searching DVC resales (doing my homework)
Been lurking for a week and decided to register.

A newbie here but had to put my 2c of my experience with PW.

Not to put anyone down from PW, of course:cheer2:

Stayed at POR Nov 27-Dec 3, FWcabin Dec 3-7, and back to POR Dec 7-11 2007. Dates mostly due to not being able to get into POR for the whole 2 weeks. (PW???)
Ran into PW at POR and the parks. No real problems with PW other than their cheers at 7:30AM :( at the top of their lungs heading for the buses or their cars/vans (Sorry, not a morning person). Kind of annoying but I guess everyone is pretty pumped up for the challenge. Large (?) group at the pool one night on Old Man Island and were pretty loud til about 2AM. Can't see me and my buddies getting away with that at any resort!
As far as the parks, PW were there but nothing outstanding. Our first week was great! basically walked onto the rides. Max wait 10 mins. I would go back at this time again, but would probably avoid ASresorts if that's where the main areas are for PW. Started getting busy the last couple of days (Wknd-Mon). Wouldnt let it be that much of a concern, although this year it looks as if PW and the Xmas rush may overlap a few days.

Thanks for listening, and GLAD TO BE HERE!!!

You know we didn't see Christmas crowds coming in until Sunday, Dec 23. I was actually surprised and very happy about this, but really happy. I think it was more crowded last year during PW than it was Dec 19-23, 2007.

We've been there during Pop Warner week. The parks were fine, but the overflow stayed at the CBR and I've NEVER seen that resort look or feel so full and chaotic.

That was before the Pop Century opened. So I would imagine a bulk of them will be at PC.

Personally, I wouldn't stay in a resort again with them. Just my opinion for the difference in the feel and crowd level of the resort.

Pop Warner doesn't usually have Nationals till about a week after Thanksgiving. So Thanksgiving is late this year the 27th I believe. So I guestamate that Pop Warner should start around the 7th to the 13th in 2008???

Bob linked thru to this info.. but here it is again for historical reference.. I searched the PW site this evening but I couldn't find ANYTHING about their 2008 dates.

Looking historically at the correlation between Thanksgiving and the Pop Warner Superbowl at Disney World ... This is what we find...

PW 2007 - December 02 to 08 / Thanksgiving Nov 22
PW 2006 - December 03 to 09 / Thanksgiving Nov 24
PW 2005 - December 04 to 10 / Thanksgiving Nov 23
PW 2004 - December 05 to 11 / Thanksgiving Nov 26
PW 2003 - December 07 to 13 / Thanksgiving Nov 27

As you can see.. it generally allows one week after Thanksgiving before the PW Championships.

For comparison : this is my guess for 2008

PW 2008 - December 07 to 13 / Thanksgiving Nov 27

This would mirror the dates from 2003.

This is JUST MY GUESS at this point until the official dates are announced, but it seems like a reasonable guess.

We were just there at Pop Century from December 3-7, 2007. We didn't notice any Pop Warner kids at the resort, but definitely at the park! I couldn't believe how busy it was! We also did the MVMCP on the 4th and there was alot of PW kids there. That was such a disappointment! That's where they were acting like crazy-heads. They were yelling, screaming, practicing cheers and running around. Clearly they were not supervised. We are thinking about going this year and I won't go a day before Dec. 15th!

I don't believe they book them into Pop Century.

We were at Pop Century from 12/6 - 12/13 and had no problems with Pop Warner kids. They were only offered two choices for accomodations this year, POR and ASM. I heard those hotels were crazy. I was suprised Pop Century wasn't offered to them given it's close proximity to the sports complex.
