Pop-Up Canvas

Since my husband is taking his own SWEET time figuring anything out on this, I will ask the next best (if not better) group I know. You guys!

As you know, we got rid of that dreadful hard sided 1969 Apache pop up. (Oh, it was ugly)
And now have a 1996 Jayco pop up. Oh and it's nice. It's only my second camper, but I feel spoiled. lol. Even the husband says out of all the campers he's ever owned it's the nicest one he's ever had. Thanks dear!

Ok. No more rambling. Question at hand:
On ONE end of the canvas it's ripped and stained.
Should we attempt to get it fixed or just buy a new one?
He thought that he could just get the one end replaced, but I'm guessing it's all one piece?

I'm really just along for the ride and don't keep up with stuff, but it's nearly April... And we need to start getting it cleaned up and stuff so that it can be taken out for a test run weekend before we go to Guntersville in June. And it's just sitting under the carport, looking all sad and lonesome. It needs some TLC.

So tell me, what's the best fix?

I would think it would be a lot cheaper to have it fixed. We have a local upholstery shop near us that does repairs. A boat canvas shop might also help. Unfortunately, when you say rv,camper, motorhome, they price goes up. So anyway, you might want to look into having it repaired.

There are websites I've found (google) that sell replacement canvas for many popup campers, very expensive with most beginning in the $600-800 range. If it is a rip, get a quote from a canvas place to get it fixed, mine charges shop rates at $75 per hour last time I had work done. If stained, try commercial canvas cleaners or someone may know home remedies to apply.

Fix and clean will be much cheaper than replace!

And a word of advice since you went from a hardside to canvas, unit must be COMPLETELY dry before closing it up for any length of time or you will have mold/mildew/smell issues! It's ok if you have to check out and go home and it's raining, just set it up as soon as possible and let it dry completely, run the air if you have one to help the process.

You may want to contact JAYCO. I know Starcraft still does/or did bunk ends for many of the older models. JAYCO may do the same.

I think so, too. But he definitely needs to hurry it up.
If we replaced it, we would have more money in the canvas than the camper itself (we got a great deal!) But would still come out great, in all.
He called a place yesterday that does upholstery on boats, and they said he would have to remove it and bring it to them. He's a handy man, but not a genius so I'm hoping he can figure out how to remove it. Cause he said right now he doesn't quite know how.
That's what I was concerned about - The price. Which would be the best way.

We replaced our canvas on our 1992 Jayco pop up and it's like a brand new one! It was $900 for ours and it was as simple as sliding the old one off the track and sliding the new one on. You will be amazed at the difference a new canvas makes!

I replaced total canvas on 1999 Jayco for around 800. as PP said its like having a brand new camper!!

the fine folks over at www.popupexplorer.com reccommend Bear Creek Canvas for relacement - I think what other posters have said at $600 - $900 sounds about right.
