I purchased a hanging tent from walmart to go with my Quikshade. On the test setup I learned the 10X10 Quikshade was actually 8X8. Me & Sis took it for a test run this weekend using crocodile clips to take up the slack at the top. Clips worked great, nice roomy interior. Only problem with the tent is there is a slit in it for a power cord. We figure we'll fix that with velcro.

The problem is we had a couple of heavy storms roll thru and I discovered the too small Quikshade was no longer water proof. Plus the legs are kind of flimsy for a hanging tent if we raise it to the necessary height to keep the tent fabric hanging properly. So the question is...

What brand would you buy for a true 10X10 canopy? I'm thinking steel legs would be best. Sis has a Coleman Max Screen house that it would work with...but then we'd be without a screen house! We thought the Coleman legs seemed stronger so that got me thinking that feedback might be helpful in choosing a canopy to hold the hanging tent.

I have been very happy with the Quest brand, sold at Dick's Sporting Goods. They have 10X10 and 12X12 sizes. Mine is a 12X12, it is a bit tough to set up single handed. I also got the tent kit, 11x11, love it!

Nothing wrong with a EZ-Up!

Great price at Costco (Carravan, aluminum frame) if your a member, comes complete with sides. 10X10 $199

ez up seems to have the strongest frames

they also build them for the commercial market for craft shows and such, so i would lean towards ezup

I actually have had 4 and I am down to 1 because of microbursts from thunderstorms. We tailgate at college football games in addition to regular camping. We are going with a screen room instead from Formosacovers.com. I am tired of replacing them really. We have had several of the brands and the ezup is the one we have left that has survived.

This is a rather convincing endorsement...survival of the fittest.

Buy whatever you like, but dont allow helpers to splay out a straight leg canopy. Sure way to loosen the joints, and allow rafters to be bent downward and hollows to form for rain to pool in, causing a collapse.

Straight leg canopies want to be vertical, if not just a little inside.

Stakes are cool too! No staking? Weights.
