Pop - smoking areas to be wary of if a non-smoker?

For those that have stayed before at Pop...

We are booked for 5nts at the beginning of August in a Preferred room. My husband gets asthma if he has to breathe in much cigarette smoke. And here in Australia we rarely come into contact with second-hand smoke because our smoking laws are so tight.

I’m seeing on the Pop map that there seems to be smoking areas outside of every building, so I’m worried that we won’t be able to open windows without letting smoke in! Can anyone give advice on any rooms to definitely ask not to be near? Or is it not much of a problem?

I don't think any of the resorts have windows that open...? The ones with balconies obviously have doors, but I think at the values, you aren't going to have that option. I could be wrong...?
Yeah no, our windows did not open. We were there last week.

We did have to walk through a smoking area right outside the main hall and dining area every time we went there. Gag. Nothing makes you lose your appetite like a big lung full of nasty smoke in the face.

This. And there were always people smoking. Really big turn off for me. I am very sensitive to smoke and I was not aware how on the path to the dining hall it was,. In the parks they are tucked away and never bothered me.

Windows don't open.
Doors won't stay open unless propped.
So zero fresh air.

I would request a high or top floor.
You can also ask for 60's or 70's --
that should keep you away from smoking areas with your preferred room.

And if someone outside your room is smoking,
and it's not a smoking area. Complain.

Yup, always a handful of people there so combined with the ridiculous humidity it was a nasty stagnant smoke cloud walking into the dining hall.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone :hyper2:. Haha to me just assuming we’d be able to open a window!

Loving the tips you have all given - and will make sure to hold our breath when we walk into the food hall :crazy2:.

And, no-one has made any comment about smoke coming into your rooms, which is good. :flower1:

When we last stayed at CBR there was a smoker 2 doors down that smoked outside her room. The smoke was getting into our room through the air conditioner and through the bottom of the door. We reported her but our room still smelled like smoke. We have not stayed there since and now only stay deluxe. I'm a cancer survivor and will not tolerate smoke near or in my room/balcony.

I'm bothered by this smoking area also. I wish they could move the smoking areas so that they're not on a primary walking path. The one that gets us is between the main hall and building 10. My DD has asthma, and I'm kind of bothered by smoke as well. We always hurry past. I always watch other families as they walk by the smokers, and no one else really seems bothered by it. I was starting to think it was just us!

Depends on what 'much cigarette smoke' means to you... if you mean any smoke, then yes you will have to watch where you walk and avoid the smoking areas.
I never ran in to a lot of smoking at the dining hall entrance, but there is a designated area there... can go in the side entrances if that amount concerns you.
Of course there is always the people to who the rules don't apply and will be smoking in non-designated areas, but that is a random thing and never know when it will happen to you.

Not to mention, smoking is prohibited in the buildings and on the walkways adjacent to the rooms. Most of the smoking areas are on the path around the back of the resort, adjacent to the lake.

Not 50's. It's literally in the middle between two closest points of buildings with upgraded rooms including preferred and your walkway to pool and pool area rooms. 50's is our favorite and I just hate that they placed that area where you can't avoid unless you walk around the building in a large circle. It's very popular and very used.

I was there 2 weeks ago and only saw smokers one time. It was right before you get to the main building walking from the 70's building (there is a goofy statue across from it). There were about 5 people sitting there smoking on some benches, I held my breathe as I walked by and so did my daughter (I have a low tolerance for it myself). But, the walkway was big enough to kind of swing wide a bit, and like I said, it was the only time while there that we came in contact with them so didn't have any issues.

Last trip (August) I had requested a renovated room in the 80's/90's section and walked through the parking lot and along the bus stops to avoid the smoking areas.

I had the same issues at All Star Movies one year. The people in the room even brought a chair out and had an ash tray on the ground. I complained several times but they did nothing. They said they have to catch them smoking. Well if security or someone would have showed up when I called instead of waiting a half an hour then they would have seen them. Never mind the ash tray outside the door. I hate the value smoking area set up. They have them right on both sides of the main building so you have to walk through the smoke to get to the food court, gift shop and buses. They need to move the smoking area to a far off parking lot area so people do not need to walk through the smoke. I am allergic to it and get a pounding headache just from the smell.

All-Star Movies also has a smoking area that you have to walk right past when you are going from Dalmations or Ducks to the main building. You have to walk past it. I have no idea why Disney didn't think to tuck it away. It sounds like Pop Century is better designed.
