POP room request ?

I'm going solo in September and I'm probably going to try online check in. I asked this over on the solo board but didn't really get a concrete answer. I know you can make room requests on online check in (I know its a request, not a demand lol ) but I don't really know what to request or how I need to say it.

I booked the standard room, and what I'm looking at trying to get is a king bed, and something in a well lit area but not crowded and noisy. I was told not to worry about safety but hey, I can't help it. I have no idea if only certain buildings have king beds or if it's a certain booking category or if it's particular buildings I'm so lost. Normally I don't really care where I am and I've never made a request before. Any help would be lovely.

Just an FYI, you get two choices from: 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, ground floor, near transportation, lake view(?).

I went solo in January of this year at a much slower time solo. I also booked a standard room and just wanted to be close to Classic Hall while still trying to get a decent view. I called in my room preferences before it was available online and asked for the following:

1- 60s Buildings
2- Lake View
3- Higher Floor (Either 3rd or 4th)

I was lucky enough to get all of my requests met to the surprise of the front desk cast member. I lucked out and got room 4459 on the 4th floor of Building Four in the 60s section. It was as close to the lake as you could get, second to the last room from the end of the hallway. It was always great to see "DO THE FUNKY CHICKEN" right outside my door before a long day at the parks ahead of me.

What might not appeal to you is that I didn't get a King Room. Personally, I was fine with two beds, one for sleeping and the other for laying out my clothes and other stuff. I was told by others that King Rooms are hard to come by at Pop with most rooms having two beds. I believe that all the buildings have the same amount of King Rooms and that they tend to be in the middle of hallways. I think your best bet is to look at the map of POP and figure out your preferred building and request that. I have no idea about the king sized beds but when we went, we ended up in the last room on the end on the 4th floor. We didn't hear any noise from other rooms. Also the entire property is well-lit and felt safe so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

We booked a standard room last year and requested a king. We got the king, but the only thing they had left was handicapped-accessible king. We were checking in at about 5 p.m. - don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. We were in the 80's building, ground floor. It was near the computer pool and was pretty quiet. Can't give you my room number - we lost all those pics in the computer crash.

I walked back from the bus stop at Classic Hall very late one night, alone, and never thought twice about it. I felt very safe.

There are standard or regular (and when I use the word standard here I am referring to non handicapped) king rooms at POP. HOWEVER, they are VERY LIMITED. There are only 30 in the entire resort. They are room # 03 and 22 in Bldgs # 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9. And they are only available on the first 3 floors.
So knowing this information and looking at a layout of the resort... the king rooms in bldgs 4 and 6 fall within the preferred section and so that knocks them out of your possibilities. All the rest of the king rooms will be in the standard pool view with bldg 2 being the furtherest bldg in the 50's section and bldgs 8 and 9 being in the 90's section which is the furtherest out from Classic Hall. If I had to pick between all of them Bldg #2 would be my choice hands down! We didn't find that pool to ever be very noisy. We like Bldg #1 in general and #2 isn't that much further. It's a very well lit area around the pool...
But my alternate suggestion would be.... if it doesn't bother you, and IF there is availability, they could give you a handicap accessible king room at check-in. If you are okay with no tub and an open floor shower, this is really probably your best option. There are more of those in more locations. You have a MUCH better chance of getting a room closer to Classic Hall. I think this is the time if I were you I would SKIP online check in and wait until I got there. Online checkin isn't always faster or better. Sometimes it works well and sometimes it is a complete BUST and takes longer to get it straightened out when you get there. Just my .02 and maybe speaking from some first hand experience Seriously though, we have online checkin go very smoothly and we have had nightmarish results....

I won't take a handicap room, I'm a frequent poster on the disabilities section and I refuse to take it from someone who might need it. Even if Disney were to assign me one of those rooms, I wouldn't take it unless it was the last room available. I think I have a better idea of what I'm looking for though, so thanks!

My thoughts exactly. If someone who needed one was there during the days of your stay, they would have requested the HA room ahead of time. I also considered our room "leftover inventory" that they could use to accommodate our king bed request.

You didn't offend me at all, I was just making the point. I know a lot of people have put in their request for a handicap accessible room and when they got to the hotel, they realized it hadn't been honored during the room assignment. There's also people that may end up with an unexpected need for the room (an injury or something like that) and wouldn't have made the request very far in advance or known they needed to make it. It's not a big deal, I would just hate to come on here and see someone saying "I needed it and it wasn't there", purely a personal thing.
