Hey all I did a search and came up empty handed.

What I want to know is.... Does anyone know the exact locations of the preferred rooms at Pop Century?

As I understand it, there are certain sections of the 50's, 60's and 70's that are preferred. It used to be the 60's only, but now they just have certain locations of those three areas. I would reason it would be rooms in those buildings closest to the main pool/food court. The buildings are T shaped and pretty large so if you look at a map, you can see that certain wings are much closer to the Hippy Dippy pool than others.

I hope that helps, I can't ever get the search function to give me what I need!

Okay, here is some information I got from the Pop Century FAQ thread:

Preferred Rooms
"Preferred" refer to the location of the room on the property and nothing more; they do not refer to views or amenities
these are rooms in buildings closest to Classic Hall (500 ft or less); this does not mean your room is necessarily THAT much closer the bus stop, however; see "Property Info" section in the following Post
typically $10-$15/night more than a standard room
these room numbers are considered preferred rooms (note “x” defines the floor)
Building 1: 1x01 – 1x36
Building 3: 3x61 – 3x72
Building 4: 4x01 – 4x36 & 4x61 – 4x72
Building 5: 5x01 – 5x12 & 5x37 – 5x72
Building 6: 6x01 – 6x12
Building 10: 0x37 – 0x72

That I am not sure of. Here is a preferred map:

If you know which direction Epcot is from Pop then you could probably figure it out! Or go over to the Grooviest Pop Century thread, there are tons of people over there that know that resort like the back of their hand.

Unfortunately our "preferred" room in September was in the 60's on the backside of the wing, with a view of absolutely nothing & about as far away from the food court, elevator & pool as you could possibly get. Not exactly what we considered preferred, but it is considered preferred by Disney - so be forwarned. Just because you pay the extra it's not necessarily close to everything. JMHO..................:coffee:

Preferred and Standard at the Value resorts refer to proximity to the main building, NOT to any view.

A Preferred room on the backside of a 60s wing would be less than 300 feet from the center of Classic Hall. That room would face a similar wing of either building 3 or building 6.

A Standard room on the backside of a 60s wing would face - sometimes obliquely - the lake.

Any room in the 60s is at least twice as close to Classic Hall as some rooms in the 80s/90s,

Thanks for all your great responses. Our upcoming trip will be our 3rd time staying at Pop and we never really knew which rooms were considered preferred. It's a good thing to know. We want a 50's lakeside room this time because we have stayed in the 70's bldg the past 2 times and we were afraid those were preferred rooms.

There are areas in bldgs 2 and 3 of 50's that will give you a view of Epcot. Also some areas of bldg 4 in 60's that will do the same. But, be aware that even in those areas, the view is in the distance. The view of the fireworks at night if off in the distance. I have been in bldg 2 of 50's, about as close to the end of the bldg as you can get, and only had to leave my room, turn immediatly to the left and I was at the end of the bldg, facing Epcot. The view there was good but not anything worth writing home about!
You will find most of the preferred rooms are closer to the food court/main bldg. Sometimes that means being very close to the pools.

You can call Disney but I'm 99% positive that the preferred rooms in the 50's are facing the pool.

Am I crazy to request a room on the first floor of buildings 4 or 5...right next to the Hippy Dippy Pool and as close to Classic Hall as possible?

Dd and I are going for a special "girls only trip" for her 7th birthday in July and I think she will love being that close to the pool and all the rest of the "action." I would prefer not to have to walk all over creation to get to the bus and food court as well!

I don't think you are crazy at all! I requested a pool facing room in the 60's (we were paying for preferred) and we got our request met. We were actually right above the baby pool but the noise didn't bug us at all. We loved being that close and now always prefer, preferred! Once we closed our door we couldn't hear a thing. We were on the 3rd floor however. But I chatted with another mom who was literally right at the pool, first floor and she said they had no noise issues either. Its really fun for kids to be that close to the pool.

I've looked all over, and I can't figure this out. I keep reading about the Epcot view, and I would love to have one so we can see the fireworks at night. My problem is, I can't tell which way I would need to face to see Epcot!

I have preferred, and I wonder, do I need to face the lake? If so, then I don't think I could get a room that can see the fireworks. Or, is Epcot the other direction?

Does anyone know?

As I said, you can see the higher level fireworks from several places in POP. Most of the areas would be in the 50's section, with the lake on your left, facing toward the parking lot by the entrance road. You can also see them from bldg 4 in 60's. But, realize, not all rooms in those areas will get you a view. In fact, I believe there are only rooms in one wing of bldg 3 of 50's that you can actually see the fireworks from the front of the room. Most other areas you have to go outside the room and around a corner.
And, remember, the view isn't all that terrific. The higher you are the better, so that narrows it down a bit as well.

I disagree about preferred rooms being only the location of the building and not the view. Our trip last March I booked a preferred room in the 60's building. I also requested we be on the 4th floor facing away from the pool. I wanted that for the quiet and also to be able to see Epcot at night. When I went to check in I told the nice CM that and he said well that is not a preferred room. I said that is fine. Just credit back that portion of my deposit. So I got a preferred room location, close to the food court and buses, and did not have to pay extra for it.

Last time I asked for, and got, a room in the 50's building, facing the lake. I asked for 4th floor, and got 3rd. It was a great location-we could see fireworks from DHS, MK, and Epcot. Also we had a wonderful view of the lightning storms we experienced last Sept. I also picked this location since my DSis is a smoker and there are a few smoking locations located around the lake.

We were in the Tramp building. Hope this helps. And no, it wasn't a preferred location.

The only drawback (and it was a small one) was the distance to the parking lots. If you are using the buses, it wouldn't be that big of an issue.

The sections outlined in yellow are the Preferred locations. They are all within a specified radius of Classic Hall - I want to say 150 feet, but the far reaches of the 60s could be a bit further.
Preferred locations in the 60s that do not face the pool face either building 3 or building 6. If a room in the 60s faces the lake, it is not a Preferred location.
