Pop or POFQ

Has anybody ever stayed at both of these resorts and are able to offer an opinion as to which one we should go to? We have stayed at Pop 3 times and love it. We are going back next year and considering trying POFQ. My husband can't see any advantages to it, why pay extra? We've looked at the Allears videos, and it looks nice. But I don't think the kids (10 and 8) would find the water slide too exciting. We would be thrilled to be at Pop again. I'm willing to give POFQ a try, should we bother, or should we just stay where we are happy.

I don't find much of a difference either between a value and a moderate resort.

I stayed at POFQ (back when it was PO). I don't recall but I think they had a coffeemaker and a fridge. We didn't even make it to the pool so I can't compare that.

I'm all for staying at a value, I spend very little time at the resort. I travel with a child and we each have a bed to ourselves-that might change it if there were more people in the room.

We have stayed at both alot and prefer POP. Dh has no desire like yours to spend the extra for a moderate. If I was to say I booked a moderate he would be fine. But once we got there I would almost 100% guarentee he would ask why we spent extra to upgrade. We go for 2 weeks at a time so value it is for us plus we prefer the QSDP and try to take advantage of FD dates.

We have been to both.

MODS: Rooms a little bigger, pools have a slide, sit down restraunt on site, PO has boat to downtown disney, can walk or take boat between POR and PORQ and eat or use pool at either.

POP is not as spread out as POR but more so than POFQ. We have been to all 3. While I think PO's are both really pretty, I just don't spend that much time there to see much. We are parks people and spend most of our time there. The kids will swim if it's warm enough.

The food court at POP is as good as either of PO's. Buses seem a little faster with one pick up point. Bus pick up spots are generally farther for POP.

I was impressed with all the pool games at PO, but now they are doing those at Pop too, and the movies at night! POR has a nice little camp fire and sing a long at night.

I decided not to upgrade to POR for my next trip because I wanted to keep the quick service free dining, not the plan with table service. Don't want any ADR's holding me down!!! 5th trip to POP, only 1 each at POR and POFQ.. Best of luck!

We have stayed at both and will not stay at a value again..they are too big and crowded, too loud, the food court is a nightmare, you can hear everything that goes on from inside your room, the buses are always packed and the rooms and bathrooms are so small

We love POFQ! A nice quiet and relaxing, small resort that has a very intimate setting. Great food court, buses could not be better, pool is excellent...there is not one bad thing to say about POFQ

To me the big pluses to POFQ are:
Recently refurbed with queen beds
Ceiling fans
Double vanity
Rooms are much more soundproof than Pop
Fridge and coffee maker

the upgrade from 2 double beds to 2 queen beds would be worth it for me :)

We haven't stayed at either. We have only stayed at POR. However, we are going again in Jan 2012 and had originally booked POP to save some money. After booking preferred at POP, it was only $100 total for us to upgrade to moderate for our 4 night stay. We decided to upgrade to POFQ. I think we will like it becuase it is a smaller resort, and the boat to DTD is great too!

We stayed at POP in 2010 and will be staying at POFQ in 2012. Why?

1. The number one reason is that POFQ has queen beds. DH and I had a room at POP with two double beds and we ended up sleeping in separate beds for a week. DD was with her grandmother in another room. Next trip we'll be staying with DD and a friend of hers, so we'd have to share those double beds at POP. So we're going to POFQ.

2. I LOVE the boats at Disney, and I love being able to take a boat to DTD.

3. It's much smaller, and I think far more beautifully themed.

4. It has a fridge included.

5. There's a hot tub at the pool.

I'd been to Pop when it had just opened and now POFQ in its new refurbished state...the other posters hit it right on the head. POFQ is more beautifully themed, QN beds, boats to DD, privileges at POR...we went to Pop during a relatively quiet period so for us I can't comment on the crowds and noise. Both seemed fairly manageable.

Having said that, I also agree with above posters that my own overall impression of the jump from POP to POFQ was that it wasn't at all substantial. I found POFQ's one and only pool to be constantly busy, probably much like the one at POP. The slide is pretty tame. I prefer a quiet pool or two and there are the ones at POR but that's not terribly convenient to do. We drive or take buses at both POP and POFQ. They both just have a food court. My memories of the overall experience at both don't feel that much different-both were fun. (AS a side note, I think I prefer the All Stars for the scale of those resorts...though maybe they are in need of a rehab lately?)

If cost is an issue, since you know and like POP, I don't think you'll feel like you're missing too much by going to POP again.
:thumbsup2

We have stayed at both. :)

We love POP - since you have stayed there 3 times you know why we love it.;)

We didn't love POFQ - the small size was a plus and the boat to DTD was a nice bonus...but we didn't love the rooms, theming or the food court.

We have also stayed a CSR and to be honest, we wouldn't spend the extra on a Value vs. Mod. For us , what you get a a Mod vs. the extra expense just isn't worth it.

All that being said, we have done POP the last 4 trips and felt like it was worth a change of pace..so we are spending the extra for AKL - we have stayed at 2 Deluxes and feel the extra money spent there vs. the extra space and amenities, are definately worth it.

I can't add much but I would strongly prefer POFQ. Two nice pools with great slides, more space in the rooms, the boat, and queen beds all turn my head.

We stayed at POFQ and I love the resort to the espect we visit there every trip for a meal or pool hop . But if i'm not staying on DVC i will not turn down a chance to stay at pop we love the resort and like others have said there is really not much difference . good luck on choosing :wizard:

I am a big POFQ lover. Pop is also a nice resort, but POFQ has:

Boat to DTD
Smaller, quieter resort
Bigger rooms
Fridge and Coffee maker
Beautiful, romantic grounds.

I vote for POFQ.

Pop is my favorite value and POFQ is my favorite moderate. When we choose a resort, it is strictly cost that helps us decide. We have set a price difference between values and moderates that we feel the extra amenities (ceiling fans, refrigerator, hot tub, evening entertainment without having to drive) offered at the moderate are worth to us. If the price difference between the moderate and the value falls within that range, than we choose the moderate. If not, we'll take the value. I would rather do 6 nights at a value than 4 nights at a moderate for the same price.
