I burnt the tip of my thumb yesterday while using a hot glue gun. The glue was extremely hot and I mean it burnt it bad. I now have a huge bubble blister and it hurts to touch it. I feel like if I pop it, it will feel better, but I don't want it to get infected. What should I do?

When my son got burned on the stove the ER doctors were very happy the blister didn't break on the palm of his hand. They wrapped it and he went to a burn center the next day. They did break it at the burn center and then they treated it.

So I am not so sure but I think I would wait on popping it. Once it is open it has a greater risk of infection.

Once his skin had a layer of healing (after a few days), I had to put Aquaphor by Eucerin cream on it a few times a day to keep it from being too dry.

The advice above is pretty much what the burn center did for my son. It was a bit different since it was on his palm and they were concerned about his skin healing too tight and then he would lose some mobility.

But I wrapped it with a material like moleskin and I had I had to spray Mercuroclear(active ingredients are Benzalkonium Choloride and Lidocaine Hydrocholoride. Basically its an antiseptic that also helps with itching.

And then I had to put the Aquaphor cream (by Eucerin) on it a few times a day after it was healed up a bit. We used Tylenol for pain.

I know it hurts like the dickens (I've been burned by many a glue gun), but please don't pop it! Back in the spring I burned my wrist very, very badly up here at the lake - on a light bulb, of all things - LOL (took a good month to heal) and yes - there was a huge blister there.. Worse yet, it was on my left hand (I'm a lefty) on the inside of my wrist, so for several days I couldn't even write - because my wrist would touch the clip board or whatever..

I kept it wrapped up, clean, and medicated and after several days the blister finally broke.. It was still pretty sore, but with the medication, keeping it clean and covered, it eventually healed quite nicely..

Good luck.. (And maybe you might want to invest in one of the "cool" glue guns/cool glue sticks if you use a gun often.. I eventually did - after I burned myself more times than I can count - LOL..)

Thank you all!! I have not popped it but it is throbbing. I can feel my pulse through it. :sad2:

Ouch! I know how that hurts. Been there, done that. I've popped them in the past and it made it hurt even worse. If it does pop, keep it covered because it is more likely to get infected. I'd cover it anyway--just so I wouldn't be tempted to pop it.

I hope your pain goes away soon.

Can I gross you out? The first time I ever used a glue gun, I burned myself with it so bad, the white blister started right away. Well, I thought the white was glue, so I was frantically trying to get the glue off, picking at it and pinching it. Well, after much pain, I discovered that it was skin and not glue.

That was like 10 years ago and I can still remember how bad that hurt!

I dd the same thing this time. It blistered immediately and while I was trying to get the glue off, I realized that part of it was actually the blister. :scared1:

I have some cream here for burns that the dr gave my DD when she got sunburned real bad. It's called Sivler Sulfadiazine cream. It has helped a lot so far, but it still hurts like the dickens. I noticed a few minutes ago that it has leaked a little own it's own, but it has not gone down.

During the day yesterday besides my thumb, I also burnt my tongue, and I burnt my arm with steam of all things when I was boiling potatoes. I was praying that my house didn't burn down last night. :rotfl2:

Good grief! You sound dangerous!!:eek:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hope it stops throbbing soon.. Fingertips are extremely sensitive.. Just think of how painful paper cuts are..

If it's leaking a bit now, that's a good sign.. It will probably break soon.. But keep it very, very clean - medicated - and covered!!

Feel better..:goodvibes

If it's leaking fulid, cover it. Keep it clean and covered. If it doesn't go down, you should probably see a doc to avoid infection.

I think somewhere in here she did say she had it covered.. That's very, very important! :goodvibes
