Family with two kids, 8 and 10. We already have one week at AKL. Would you do the other week (first week) at POP or DVC rental at OKW?

Is it a big difference in $$ or similar? Are you doing mostly parks? Personally if it saved alot of money I would do pop unless space is a real issue. If it is simmilar in price OKW no question more space and amenities .

Agree.

Similar price if POP is not discounted and I can get DVC points at $16/point or less.

I would choose POP largely because you can book POP directly through WDW and the WDW reservation rules would be in effect. If you rent DVC points, you have to pay for the entire stay upfront, there's usually no way to modify the reservation after it's booked, and in most cases you wouldn't get a refund if you had to cancel. Of course you could purchase trip insurance, as many people do. I personally prefer to have control of my reservation and like the flexibility of booking directly through WDW.

With the kids - I would say - save the money, book through WDW and go to POP. We have done both (just came back from OKW) and with the ages of the children - they will love POP. We stayed in the 80's building, which is pretty far from the main pool, however the Computer pool is huge and our kids (then 10 and 13) absolutely loved it! Had the pool to themselves most of the stay. POP is recently renovated and the rooms look like they were done by IKEA. Huge flat screen and great amount of space for a value.
As for OKW - we are very partial, this is our Home resort and we absolutely love it. It's a very large resort and depending on where you stay, it can be a hike (or bus ride) to the Hospitality House. We prefer Old Turtle Pond (Building 42), which has an awesome quiet pool and food/bar and very close to the bus stop. Our kids loved this quiet pool also and the food at the pool bar was a added bonus.
You can't go wrong at either resort - really depends on what you want to spend and proximity to each park.

Are you doing the parks every day or spending time at the resort?

OKW gives you larger rooms, a better pool, and the boat to Disney Springs. It also has a table service restaurant.
Pop is cheaper, and you can walk to the AoA food court.
Both are about the same distance from the theme parks.

We will probably take a day or two off from the parks. Hadn’t thought about the boat to Disney Springs. Unless there’s a sale on Pop price is about the same.

There's not a food court at OKW, but that might not be important to you. Just thought I'd mention it.

Got it just as you changed it. Remember, it's already July.

To the OP, if you are looking at a one bedroom, that would be great. One king bed, one queen sleeper sofa and one twin sleeper chair. A studio would have two queen beds. Plus a studio would run about 12-14 points per night. One bedroom would be about twice that. Once you go past June 9, the points per night go up for the summer season.

OKW doesn't have a food court but it does have both Olivia's (table service) and Goods to Go, plus the Turtle Shack that is open seasonally. Goods to Go is near the main pool with picnic tables outside to eat. It was originally just meant as poolside food, but they do offer some breakfast items for quick service. At OKW you'll have either a kitchenette with microwave, undercounter refrigerator, toaster and drip coffee maker (in the studio) or full kitchen (in the one bedroom). The one bedroom also will give you a washer and dryer in your villa, so you can move to your next reservation with a suitcase full of clean clothes. The studios have access to free washers and dryer that are located by the pools.

Thanks for mentioning that. I’m trying to decide on renting at OKW or BCWL. I’ve never dated at OKW and have always wanted to, but the WL location is so tempting. Last time we stayed there, we had an infestation of ghost ants. I’d like to give it a second try.

Do the other resort first, whichever it is--POP or OKW. You should end your trip at AKL. (It's my fave, so I'm a little prejudiced, but it's really quite spectacular.)
I did this last visit 4 days at movies then moved to AKL. It was great! As everyone said the kids will love Pop to me it just goes to personal preference. If you want more space and dont mind someone else being in control of your trip rent points. If you don't mind a smaller room the theming at Pop plus the Gondolas are a plus. I leave next week staying at ASMO first then Wilderness Lodge.

I'm not a fan of the values and from pics I've seen of OKW it does nothing for me. But in your case I would go with Pop. With my kids being older and us needing more room I would probably do OKW.
