HI All!

Has anyone been to Pop Century and if so are there any kind of building request I should put in for. We are going in two weeks and we have a reservation for a Standard room, but I am not sure if we can request a specific building? We have on the reservation a request for a King bed as we are only two (going to Disney for a quick congratulations trip with my hubby!)

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated!!

:D

The only preferred building is the 60's building. It's the one closest to the main building where the food court and bus stops are. It's also closest to the main pool (but there are other pools in the 50's and 80's sections as well). Since your reservation is for a standard room, the closest sections to the main building would be the 50's or 70's. We stayed in the 80's building, and even though it was a tiny bit further from the main building, we really liked the theming (we grew up in the 80's). Overall, my recommendation would be to pick the decade that is the most nostalgic for you. :)

There is a huge PC thread with tons of info.

I am planning on asking for an upper floor facing anything BUT the pools. I have heard the rooms that face the pools can hear noise pretty late into the night.

My personal choice would be the 70's building A.

Enjoy your trip.

I'd second the 50's building. We stayed in Building A last month and found the location excellent. Very near the parking and Classic Hall. We were also near the bowling pin pool and laundry.

You mentioned that you are requesting a king bed room. The big thing to think about is which is more important -- Location or King Bed? The reason I say this is because there are only a few king beds in each building, and you have a better chance of getting a king bed if you are flexible with what building you're in.

Second, it's important to remember that slightly less than half of the king bed rooms are disability accessible rooms, with a shower only (no tub).

Hello, we stayed at the POP in January for 1 night before moving to the Poly, but my wife and I agreed it is a nice place. We were in the 90's building and the one thing I would tell you is that no matter what building you are in, everything seems to be close enough to walk. In the morning I walked to the food court for coffee and it probably took a couple of minutes to get there(very close). So no matter what room or building you are in will not be far from anything.
Enjoy Planning!

If I had a car at Pop Century and was planning on using it on most days I think it would be better to be in the 80s/90s areas since it is closer to an uncrowded parking lot. We were in the 70s, which was fine and close to the food court, but when carrying things back and forth to the car the 80s/90s would have been good. And like what was pointed out, nothing is real far away--the resort is spread out somewhat, but I never felt that anything was a real long walk.

Yes, I agree with Tigger&Belle regarding parking. If you have a car you are better off at one end or the other (50's or 80's/90's) as they have the biggest lots. The parking lot for the 70's and one 80's bldg (B I think, that's where we were) is kind of elongated with not much up front parking. Loading and unloading can be arduous.
Otherwise the buildings are all very close to the pools (one at each end as well as the middle) and the main food court area. We walked Memory Lane (and the length of the place) a couple of times, no sweat! We loved it there!

Thanks for all the input, I am tempted just to arrive and see what we get. I do hope for a King bed as it is just me and the hubby and those doubles can get cramped! If that were the choice I would choose the King over the location. But if I have my choice it would be the 80's also since we grew up then. If I want to request should I fax something or call a few days before or just request at checkin?

Thanks for the Info Tyler. Also Tyler I am curious about the Hearing Imparied rooms. I have significant hearing loss but I am usually fine with my hearing aids and of course my husband is with me. I would never consider it severe hearing imparied as compared to those with complete loss and would never want to take a room away from someone who needs it more, but I was wondering what they use to determine that type of handicap. Also I am guessing that that type of room is not King equipped anyway. What do you mean by handicapped accessible bathroom. Is it a walk in stall?

I shouldn't be bothering you as I can probably get all this information on the threads with the Pop Century info!! I'm headed there next.

PS. I have been tempted to upgrade to a moderate level as we have never stayed at the value, but I know we will love this place, RIGHT???????

Thanks again everyone!

For those with hearing impairments, we have a portable kit that can be installed into any room. It includes a bed shaker, as well as a light up device that can tell you if the phone is ringing, a knock on the door, the alarm clock, or a fire. It also includes a TTY, and a special strobe fire alarm. Since it's a portable kit, it can be installed in any room. It is available free of charge to any guest who might need it, at any resort.

As for the accessible bathroom, it's slightly larger than the standard bathroom. It has the toilet on one side as you walk in, and then a curtain to divide the shower part. I believe there is a fold down seat as well. It's designed so that guests using wheelchairs can just roll right in. And from what I've been told, it's also the first that drains properly :)
