Ive heard that the pop century legendary years will never be built. i was so excited about when it would open, and if it never does i will be so upset. so if any body knows this is not true please reply.

i doubt they would just stop building a hotel like that.

I honestly would expect that barring a significant recession and subsequent downturn in attendance, POP Century Phase 2 will begin to see development within the next 12 to 18 months. Now there has been speculation as to whether it will be the Classic years( 1900-1940) or whether they will repeat the existing years. It is also likely that these will be built as the Family Suites that have been very successful at the All Star.

I think the all family suites is the way you will see this go. There has been no real expansion of WDW hotels (not counting DVC) since the 9/11 downturn in travel. Unless there is a deep recession that pulls numbers away from WDW it would seem likely that they would finish this project. Even with a recession in the US, foreign travel may go up with the weakness of the US dollar making travel to the US favorable to Europeans.

Disney is "outsourcing" the remaining low-end hotel rooms to other companies at the 'Flamingo Junction' stip mall development which will be built near the Animal Kingdom. Over 5,000 motel rooms are planned.

DVC is Anaheim's "cash cow".

I doubt you will see Disney sponsor ($$$) any hotel construction until DVC is completely exhausted.

Someone had mentioned that the buildings may no longer be up to FLorida's building codes since the codes have been changed.... This could be the beginning of the razing of the buildings.... They are an eye sore and not Disney like.....

First of all, it has been quite a number of years since there have been any major changes to Florida's Building Codes.

And also Disney has always built way over Code requirements. For example, the design for all permanant buildings is to handle 200 MPH winds. And since Disney has its own generating plants and all underground utilities the safest place to be during a hurricane is inside a Disney Resort.

There is no way that is true. First of all Disney would not spend that much money on something and then tear it down. Secondly Disney hotels have been operating at 97% for the past year and a half so I really doubt they plan on getting rid of hotel rooms on property.

Getting rid of two partially-built frames would not be getting rid of rooms. They'd be getting rid of eyesores that look like something left over in Priypiat, Ukraine than at Disney.

I think a more likely reason for demolition than completion is that these frames have been exposed to the weather for many years now. They are probably not structurally sound.

What they do with the property after that will depend on the economy and the management. I think they COULD do with more value rooms, given how they oversell free dining.

:confused3 Why would anyone care? Even if you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Pop Century, it's already there. Why more?:confused3

My opinion is that Diseny has shown no more interest in hotels. They flat out gave up on having a 5 star Resort by giving the rights to 4 Seasons. As Mr. Voiuce pointed out the new strip mall project undoubtedly comes with some guarantees for the 'Magical' Days Inn or whatever end up going there.

Right now I'd be more concerned with deciding they don't want to run any of the hotels anymore and just lease them out.:scared1:

We care because every time you stay at Pop Century you can't help but see the buildings. They've been sitting there for years. It is unattractive. It's un-Disney like and we want to know if they will EVER finish them. My opinion is that they will eventually finish them but it may be a few more years when the economy is better.

For the record, the 10-Q for the last quarter, and the 10-K for 2007 say the occupancy rate was 89%.

I just picked up on an interesting tidbit. About a month ago I was browsing for hotels on www.disney.com for September and for Pop Century it had a disclaimer that major building works would be going on at the second phase, but that this should in no way affect the enjoyment of the people staying in the existing first phase. I just went back and could not find this anywhere. They must have removed this since I last checked.

who knows... maybe they are to busy with DVC projects that they do not wish to work on legendary years...

last rumor I herd, family suites in many of the buildings, with standard rooms in a few other buildings... that is if the family suites take off well. have not herd anything new.

Actually, the buildings in the video are in better shape than I thought they would be after so much time. They could likely be used. The existing foundations with no buildings would probably have to be redone, as the concrete has weeds growing up and causing cracks.
