Pop Century Check in

Help me sort through this in my head. I am contemplating a solo trip with my 5 year old son. He's a good kid and a good traveler but can get a little whiny when tired.

We would fly land at MCO at 9 pm, definitely past his bedtime. We'd hit the ME and head to Pop Century. In a worst case scenario, how far would we have to walk from check in to our room? I assume this would be at 10 pm or so. So definitely a tired boo at this point.

ME will bring our checked bags directly to our room, right?

So I'd only be wrestling one carry on probably, my purse and him.

Not sure that is how I want to start the trip.

Sigh...

Thanks!

I believe the furthest room is about an 8 minute walk away.

Also, when you do your online check in you should have the option of requesting a particular decade, avoid the 80's and 90's as they are the farthest out.

I'd request a room closer to the lobby. You're not arriving too awful late so you'll both be able to get a good nights' sleep before heading out to the parks in the morning!! Make sure you have some good food for your little one (you, too!!) on the flight, as it'll be dinner time. That way you won't be hungry when you get there and won't have to worry about eating then. If he's tired, try to be patient with him. Maybe put his pj's in your carry-on because it may be a little while before your bags get to the room. Have a magical trip and have fun!! Enjoy your 5 yr. old and let him be a 5 yr. old!! You can be a kid too!!

I'm not sure you can request an area, we like the 50's so last year did the online check-n and they have a 1st floor request and a refridge option, not much, maybe that has changed I hope cause next month we are at POP again and would like to request 50's online. What we did to get the 50's was fax in a room request. I wanted to attach the link to All ears how to do this but their site must be down now.
I attached a POP map so you can see how far the different areas are from Classic Hall. The check in is to the fight side of classic hall os maybe request the 50's area building 1 or 60's building 4.
Have fun we love POP our favorite value resort.

Yes, you can request a particular decade with on-line check in now. All rooms at Pop have a refrigerator, so that is no longer a request. You can also request "close to transportation" and "ground floor." (That's all I recall.)

Anyway, the other thing I would do when you're arriving that late is to ask that your checked luggage be held until the morning. It typically arrives about 3 hours after check-in, so you'd be looking at them delivering it around 1:00 a.m. Not good when you're trying to sleep. We had a late arrival and they held it for us. You ask at check-in and then call luggage services from your room. Luggage services will offer up a couple of morning times to drop off the bags -- they said "how about 7:30?" I said that would be great and they were at my door at 7:32 a.m. DD was still sleeping.

Also, get a backpack and get rid of the purse (or put your purse in a backpack). The extra arm/hand is good when you have a child. You can also easily strap it to your carry-on bag in the airport and at the resort.

When we checked in last month, we were assigned a 4th floor room in the 1950's section that was as far as we could be from Classic Hall. We walked over there and got outside the room and just knew we would hate it. It was probably a 6 minute walk. We went back to check-in and asked for a different room. We were assigned a ground floor room in the 1970s section and were very pleased with that. So, if you get something you don't really want, ask for a change. If they can, they'll accommodate a request.

I've been traveling alone with DD since she was 4 (DH is not a Disney guy). She turns 18 next month. WDW is a very easy place to navigate on your own with a child. Have fun!

Wow thats great I won't have to fax in a room request then. Now I can't wait till on-line check in time
How many days ahead can you do the on-line check-in?

We did online check in for our trip last week. I checked in quite a while before our arrival date, 4 or 5 days I think. Anyway, I requested 60's, lake view. We arrived on Sunday around noon. We didn't get 60's, and we weren't by the lake.
We were given a second floor room in 70's, and we were very grateful. We could not have been much closer to the food court!
Just tossed this in so you are aware that it's still a crap shoot, even with requests. :)

You can do on-line check in at the 10 day mark. You can also change your mind and put in a different request closer to your check in date (which I have done). The PP is right, just because you make a request doesn't mean you'll get it.

On my trip last month, we requested ground floor, lake view. I had also registerd a request for the 1950s section by phone. We were originally given a ground floor in the 1990s section, but the CM checking us in saw that that wasn't really what we wanted, but noted that we got ground floor. They reassigned us to the 1950s section, 4th floor in what was supposed to be a lake view room. The view was of the parking lot, so we went back and got a ground floor room. We liked the new room we were assigned.

The CM said that whenever anyone requests a ground floor room, that is the first request they try to fill no matter what.

I guess if we what the 50's I better not mention the 1 st floor. wonder if it's still better to fax the request (if you still can), I've always gotten what we requested with faxing?
Main thing is no 90's that is Syberia out there.

WDW resorts no longer accepts fax requests.

You can make some limited requests during online check-in - these are specific check-boxes and vary by resort, no ability to type anything. If you have a very specific request, it is recommended that you (or your TA) call the Central Reservations line and have the request noted on your reservation. Again, requests are just that ("requests") and there is no guarantee but WDW does try to accommodate as best as possible.

Oh well I'll just have to do the on-line request 10 days out if I can. We just would like the 50's, first floor is nice but they have elevators so 2-4 floors are the same. I just don't want to be way out at the 80's and 90's. We will be spending most of our time at the Food and Wine Fest and the Parks so the resort for us is mainly a place just to sleep and maybe a swim in the afternoon when it's hot.

Just a personal note, _I_ do not like ground floor rooms--more traffic and more noise. I always request (politely) a top floor room when I check in. Sometimes they look at me like I am nuts....
:-)
I also recognize that it is *just* a request. My last visit (August 2012) I had ground floor and you know what?? The trip was still fine!

August was the first visit that I didn't get what I wanted and I've been to Pop about 7 times. So, I'd still request what you want (2 requests with on-line) and hope for the best. If you don't get what you really want, ask the CM if there are any other rooms that would suit your desires. We checked in quite late -- nearly 11:00 p.m. -- and they were still able to move us around. They really do want you to be happy.

And, as the PP noted, no more faxing in requests.
