Just back yesterday from four nights at Pop Century (three padi for my husband's company - gotta love it). Normally, I don't care about room noise. I deal with it. Here's my review.

Unless you have a connecting door and your neighbor decides to put their play and pack or crib or whatever next to it, there is absolutely nothing to worry about. I actually went into this trip prepared to make such a review (kinda like those people who do it for a living!). We had neighbors to both sides. WE heard nothing from room 2104. Nothing. Not even a TV. From 2102, well, we called *it* the banshee.

From the moment that child woke up until whenever the parents decided it was worth their effort, that child SCREAMED!!!!!!! Day One was 7:00-8:00 AM. That's when my husband banged on the connecting door and I called the room. Neither was acknowledged. Day Two was at 5:30 and I didn't even hesitate. Banged on the connecting door. What was worse was the screaming stopped immediately. I"m not talking about a baby crying because he's fussy. I'm not talking about a little kid not wanting to get started that early in the day. I am talking about straight flat SCREAMING!!!!!! With nothing from the parents. Day three, my husband was up ealry for a business meeting. The kid started at 8:00 AM.

But, for those who are going to Pop Century and have read reviews of the noise from your room, I doubt you will get Banshee. And it was only because of the connecting door. And inconsiderate parents. Other than the Banshee, it was relatively quiet. And where was our room? First floor about seven rooms from the bowling pin pool (we could see it quite well from our window) in the fifties section. We heard some noise from the pool in the morning but not much. Totally able to roll over and go back to sleep.

If not for Banshee, I would rate this visit to Pop Century about a 9 on a 10 schale with 10 being the quietest.

Oh no that is awful, I would've asked to switch rooms after the second time. Hope the rest of your stay was good!

Deluxes aren't any better. At Poly we would hear people next door opening and closing the dressers drawers. Would start around 6am. At CR it was teens running up and down the halls plus the kids over jumping up and down on the beds. That started at 7am the day after MK was open til 1am. I was not a happy camper. At least with the value you aren't spending 3 to 4 times as much for the room. Now we only stay value.

I heard showers and toilets flushing at 6-7 AM each day---it is the only reason I would hesitate to stay at POP again--otherwise, thought it was a great resort for the $.

So sorry about the Banshee!!
I, too, was a little worried about noise when I booked for our first trip last June. We didn't request a location, but instead took our chances. We stayed at Pop in the 50's section (Jukebox building, 4th floor, facing the pool, down toward the lake end) and it was VERY quiet. We enjoyed it so much, that's probably where we'll stay next summer!

Man, those connecting doors can be miserable. They're great if you have family/friends next door, but if it's strangers...well, yuck.
I've had great experiences at POP...never a noise problem. I have heard toilets flushing at all resorts, didn't make any difference where it was.
And for some reason, the noise of people walking past your room doesn't seem nearly as loud at POP as it does in a deluxe. Those halls can really magnify the noise if it's at all loud out there.

Glad you had a great stay at Pop. I think that luck of the draw as far as where your room is and who your neighbors are is going to depend on how "noisy" your experience is.

Glad someone brought up the toilet thing. I meant to post that in my mini-review (and mini-rant). The toilet "noise" I heard was the same as I've heard in any house I've been in. Definitely not as loud as Archie Bunker's toilet! But you knew water was flowing. I just think the "problem" is that *you* aren't the one doing the flushing at 2:00 AM. So if you hear it, it is a surprise. Same thing with the shower. It was the two of us in the room. Wait, there's water running and it's not either one of us! Oh, it's the neighbors. You know what I mean? If you hear it at home, you think "oh, that's so-and-so in the shower" and then you ignore it because you know who it is. We just don't do that in a hotel room. Any hotel room.

We stayed at Pop and had problems with the noise too...

We were in preferred, ground level. We did NOT have connecting doors, but could hear the toilets, shower, & faucets at all hours of the night. In addition to that the building we were in..we would have guests getting off the bus walking to their rooms laughing, screaming, or running past our rooms up until 2am, and starting back up at 6am.

We decided to book all star music this time, but if I stayed at Pop again I would request an upper floor, and maybe a corner room.

I hope it's not too late to request a room on a higher floor. Hopefully people w/ "banshees" will stay on lower levels.

POP was the only place we've stayed so far that had a connecting door. Our neighbors were LOUD! It sounded like they had a party for twenty people in the room next door. They stayed up later than we did too. After the third day we started keeping the tv on at night and sleeping to Stacy in Spanish.

Any other place we've stayed we could hear bathroom noise, but once I read on the DIS to keep the door closed, I couldn't hear it any more. I also keep the bathroom fan on to cut down on the noise. I've read on here about other people having noise problems at every level of resort, so it's not just POP. I really do think the connecting door might be the key. :goodvibes

Yup, I'm staying at a hotel right now with interior hallways - you can really hear th kids running down the hallways

It seems like there may be less noise from adjacent rooms on the first floors of the value resorts? Maybe the construction is different on the bottom floors?

Also, I have heard that putting rolled up towels between the connecting doors helps with noise (4ince most of the noise comes through the crack at the floor?). Not sure, but its worth a try

The banshee lol I like that! We had a bad experience at a beach hotel in Ft.Meyers I call the howler. This was an adult who was practically drop dead drunk and once in a while he would open the door and howl like a werewolf. While in his room, he was bumping into the furniture. I was patiently waiting for him to fall asleep (it was about 1 a.m.). The front desk could not be reached as they turn off the lights and scram. The next day we found out you're supposed to call the police anyway we only stayed there 1 night. :scared1:

As far as the Pop, we usually request the third floor. In our 2 visits, we haven't had any problems. Sure you hear the toilets but I rather hear showers and toilets to screaming/howling. :lmao:

Also, the doors at POP or any value or moderate are exterior doors and are built to keep out the weather.

:rotfl: :rotfl: I think the noise level at any resort will depend strictly on how courteous your neighbors are. A few years ago we had our own 'banshee' next door to us at AKL. We called him the 'kid from H E Double Hockey Sticks'. His parents seemed to think it was hilarious for him to beat on our connecting room door every morning and scream "wake up". When they left every morning you could hear the parents laughing loudly as the kid ran down the hall banging on people's doors and screaming. Our third morning we called downstairs, asked for a manager, and was told that someone had already complained about the family and that they had been spoken to. We told them it hadn't done any good, as the kid was presently banging on the connecting room door. Although at least he was quieter as they left their room and started walking down the hall that morning. At least we didn't hear him screaming and banging on others doors.

Why would they be more inclined to stay on a lower floor???

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Maybe because families with babies and small children would rather not lug all their belongings (such as the stroller and pack and play) up and down the stairs. Just my thoughts... :confused3 I can say that after two trips to POP, we have found it to be rather quiet. We always request a top floor room that faces no pool or no main walkways. I would rather have a restful sleep that be close to the main areas. We also bring a fan. We love POP!

That might make the difference! I'm' thinking that and the interior hallways in the Deluxes would make a big difference in the amount of sound. Noises really echo in those enclosed hallways, and sounds just float through the connecting room doors.

...we found it really cut down on the noise from the rooms above us to keep our bathroom door shut. :)

We just got back from POP, room 5454, top floor of the 50s building, on the side away from the pool and away from the elevator. It was convenient to everything and really pretty quiet. You do hear the plumbing noise during the night but the beds are very comfortable and we were so tired it didn't bother us.
