Pop and smoking question

No flames please! My DH is a smoker. While at Disney, he does very well smoking only in the smoking areas. Our upcoming trip in August will be the first since the resorts went non-smoking. We are staying at Pop. I am not sure how to make a room request. I would like to get the 60's building, lakeside. DH wants to be on the first floor and near a smoking area. How do I go about requesting this? I know it is only a request, and Disney usually tries to honor at least one request. How should I ask for all of this??
