Poor Grand Cayman

I just read a news report that said at least half of the homes and businesses on Grand Cayman lost their roofs, flooding was widespread, and there are reports of people taking to their roofs because the storm surge was so high.

How sad and how terrifying for all of them. They have no where else to go. I heard on the Weather Channel that the two smaller Cayman islands were evacuated to Grand Cayman and then Grand Cayman took the brunt of the storm it seemed like forever.

All of those people are in our prayers.

I was shocked to see the reports today , i had read that GC had received only minimal damage, all changed today, thinking of the people on the island and in its path.

Scariest thing I heard last night was that they were experiencing up to 40 foot waves. That is one BIG wall of water!

It does sound like GC got hit pretty hard. I found a link with a posting about damage at http://www.caymanweather.com.

From what I've heard, cayman got hit pretty hard.

Thank you for posting the photos -- the images are horrifying. I can't imagine how frightening it was to be in the middle of that storm.

It's going to take a long time for Grand Cayman to bounce back after Ivan!

Was there in Feb04 on magic. Great place. However, looking at photos of IVAN. The place is destroyed/leveled. Don't think that any Magic cruises will be going there for MONTHS. Would bet maybe in Spring 05. Further, I wouldn't want to go there for a long while anyway until the post IVAN stuff is no longer an issue. Alot of islanders will be way too busy with their own trials and tribulations. Cruise ships will be a nuisance. The kind of destruction that took place will take months to repair. Just look at the pics. Sorry.
