Okay this is a crazy weird question but I MUST ask.

How do you guys deal when you and your other roomies are in your hotel room and one of you has to poop? How do you guys deal with the smell?

One of the reasons why I am so afraid to ever go on vacation with my dad again is because his bowel movements stink up the whole floor of the house. If he poops upstairs, the upstairs stinks. If he poops downstairs, the downstairs stinks. Seriously, he shuts the door but you can still smell it. We have these deodorizing drops that you put in the toilet before you poop and it helps a little bit but doesn't fully get rid of the smell. The thing about being in a house though is that you can go to other rooms to escape. In a hotel room, you are trapped.

I understand that some of you feel like it's just something you have to deal with because you are family. But what about those of you who don't go with family? Anyone ever go on vacation with a friend? When I was in high school, we took a band trip to Disneyland and my room came up with a If You Have To Poop You Use The Public Bathroom In The Lobby policy. Sounds dumb but it helped a lot.

Just curious as to how you guys deal!

Light a match afterwards the sulpher helps eliminate the odor. I also take small scented votive candles (never leave lit unattended). My brother swears by Ozium deodorizer.

Travel-size Febreze (the one that freshens the air). Actually learned that one from the DIS. ;)

One-Drop Deodorizer works pretty well. I can't post links yet so just search google for it.

Flush as soon as it comes out instead of sitting there while you finish. Flush multiple times through the process. Flushing before the odor has time to move around the room really helps to cut down on the intensity of the smell.

Also try to go in the morning and take a shower immediately afterwards before opening the door to the bathroom. Make sure you turn on the fan/air vent in the bathroom. This also help to get rid of the odor before opening the door.

Good Luck! lol! :)

I have friends who get an extra room so that DH can sleep there (snores) and stink up that room. He doesn't like being sent to the lobby. :lmao:

I second lighting a match - nice and strong, if need be...TWO matches LOL!

Well since I'm the only girl in my family (DH, DS20 and DS18) and we all know most men don't care how badly the stink up anything, I always, always take air fresher with us when we go on vacation. I INSIST they spray around the door cracks in the bathroom before they start anything. It helps. And make sure they actually shut the bathroom door when they exit. It's the "passing gas" in the hotel room that we have more of an issue with though. Men can be so gross.

We always take an air freshener, it is part of our disney "kit". One of the solid ones goes in the bathroom on check in. Just good planning!:goodvibes

Pack some of the airwick or febreeze whats-its in the bathroom. You could say you hate the smell of the hotel rooms and wanted to try something new this time around. The only alternative is to request a courtesy flush.

DF and I have a 'subtle' code of "I need the bathroom, why don't you put the TV on?"

And we got air freshner in our Garden Grocer delivery. :)

I don't let it bother me, never did...Everybody poops and everybodies poop smells.Maybe that explains why I am a nurse..LOL
