I was reading on the DCL board about children in swim diapers not being allowed in the pool. Just wondering if this is the same at the hotels or just the cruise ship? Thank you :earsgirl:

Yes, they can swim in the pools at the water parks and resort pools as long as they have swim diapers on.

We had made reservations on the DCL and didn't know about the non-swimming rule. A friend told me about it and we quickly cancelled our plans. I can understand why they make such a rule, but they should tell you that when you make your reservations.

Have a great trip!

Pools on cruise ships (at least DCL) are not treated with chemicals. That's why babies in diapers are not allowed in them. It's for health reasons. The resorts and water parks are all treated normally though so you can rest easy knowing your little ones are allowed in the pools with swim diapers on.

hth!

Hmm, so what ARE cruise ship pools treated with? I mean, I know it's unthinkable, but I'm sure that there are some older (out of diapers) kids that may let loose, so to speak, in the pool. Some that don't yet understand the whole OOL thing (no P in this pool - keep it that way;))

I thought that pools on cruise ships were salt water and not treated with anything. I know the one cruise I took, the pool was filled with sea water.

I'm not sure how cruise ships are treated, but if a child has a poop accident(which is fairly frequent on DCL, both because kids will have accidents and because some parents don't like the no swimming if not potty trained rule), then DCL closes the pool, drains it, cleans it, fills it back up. Understandable, but a big disappointment, especially on sea days.

I just looked this up and the DCL guest pools are chlorinated. They take the sea water, treat it, filter it and desalt it. Then they add it to the pool and add chemicals (chlorine). The cast pool is a salt water pool. I'm not sure about other cruise lines, probably a mix of both.

My sister in law used to use salt to sanitize their pool. So, they filled it with fresh water, but then added salt (not sure how much, etc) to retard bacteria growth. I always found it strange because it tasted like the ocean, but no seaweed! It was nice not to have the chlorine smell, but I wasn't sure if I liked the salty taste.
