On a stay at AKL 1/1 - 1/6. Really irked that the pools are open from 10am - 8pm only. I remember a time coming down here when all the pools were 24 hours. I could see closing at 10pm maybe. Late night swimming is one of the only times to get some quiet pool time in. Also found they're now locking up the steam and sauna rooms at Jambo at 5pm. Idk what's with them closing everything down so early. It's become ridiculous.

Over the last few years Disney has been in overreaction mode. A few kids have drowned in the pools. The reaction was to build fences and only allow swimming when guards are present. I blame parents that allow their kids to roam feral. In almost all the drownings you have to ask, "Where were the parents?"

I know we always enjoyed the pools after a day at the parks. No matter how late, the kiddos always wanted to go for a swim.
I understand the reasoning behind the earlier closing times but still miss the late night swims.

I was looking at hours next week for a possible stay next year that time. Being that the parks are closed by 9 and now reading pools are closed at 8, I'm rethinking. We were there this February and pools were open until 11. Hate the thought of going and everything being shut down by 9. I don't mind a night at DS, but what is one to do the rest of the week (hopefully between DS AND EMH we can stay busy at night).

Totally agree. Keep the life guards on duty unti midnight so guests coming back from the parks can use the pools. When the parks close at 9 or 10 pm, they take the bus back, that dip in the pool has always been a cornerstone in the WDW daily plan.

Um, having been at several resorts with guests in the pools at midnight and after (2:00 AM at one) and screaming and having parties and just being not great guests, I applaud Disney for shutting down the pools earlier. If you give someone an inch, they take a mile and the "I'm on vacation so I want to enjoy myself" thing goes way too far. Quiet swims, yes but how does Disney draw the line? They can't. They simply can't.

half the kids who drown each year do so with in 25 yards of a parent, hardly running feral. Drowning can be silent and without warning. There is enough heartache while a child accidentally drowns that pointing a finger at the parents is unnecessarily cruel. I am sure they all are blaming themselves even if there was nothing they could have done to prevent it.

Fences around the pools at hotels/motels is a state law now, not a WDW thing. They had to be compliant to avoid fines.

As early as 8pm?

I agree, way too early even tho it's winter. I really hate it when pools close at 10pm in the summer. Way to early to be closed!

As early as 8pm?

In Dec. 2015 we asked a Pool CM about the Early closings, as when we were @ Jambo House in 2012,
the Pool was open 24/7!

Noise is not the reason, as @ 10 p.m, it was Quiet Time,
and they would close the Pool --by (Security) if Teens got too noisy. The lifeguards left @ 10 pm.

The Pool CM explained that Guests were doing unsavory things in the Pool & Whirpools in the middle of the night, so they now have ' normal ' hours.

It bothers me that they close so early @ night!
Just because it!s Nov./Dec. doesn't mean they have to close @ 8, or even 7 p.m.!!!

I agree they close way too early. They don't seem to realize or care that some like to swim after a long day in the parks.

Out of all the Hotels , the quiet pools don't ever have anyone there....So they virtually do not close at 8 or so. But at AKL/V being the 2 pools are virtually Main / Feature pools, I can see how they have it cordoned off..... Does it Su*k? Hell yeah, but as others have stated it is a law, so there's nothing they could do.....With all the cutbacks, I doubt that WDW is going to pay 4 or 5 lifeguards (per resort) another 3 or 4 more hours than what they are paying as of now. The reason being (IMHO) Why would they pay out the $$ without it bringing any $$$ in?:confused3

I agree! it's all about the money. Now when companies want to increase profits the first, and sometimes the only, thing they look at is eliminating salaries and benefits. It's bull---- but an unfortunate cold hard fact. Disney has become experts at it. The problem is no matter how much they take away from their customers they all keep coming back for more. (PLEASE DISREGARD MY TICKER HAVE NOT HAD THE TIME TO CHANGE IT, WON'T BE GOING BACK TO DISNEY ANYMORE)Disney just does not care about their customers experience like they used to. Total shame.
