Pools at Disney World

My DD's face will get red and look like she has a rash....but it has happened at other places as well. I'm not sure if it's the pool or the sun or the sunscreen. Maybe a combination. :confused3

We wondered about the sunscreen issue too, but ruled that out. I bought filters for our house that filter chlorine/fluoride after I saw her reaction, and ruled out the sunscreen issue. This was when she was very young, the one thing we saw after that was she did not fight us so much to take her baths anymore.

When ever we go somewhere, we put her on time limits with pools, but we do not have to do that at Disney's Yacht Club resort.:lovestruc

You can get the same things from Chlorine ...ALL pool chemicals are dangerous and can cause reactions in people.I have had a pool forever and ours was recently changed to salt water and even that can cause issues.Disney has used it for YEARS now, realtively few have had issues. With the amount of fecal contaminent, that enters DIsneys water daily they have no choice but to use heavy duty sanitizers.Better that then get sick.Alot of community pools now use Bromine as well

I know about salt being hard on the pipes, but have not heard any other problem. I have seen something on using special lighting to kill bacteria as well. I agree, public pools have no choice in having to use heavy duty sanitizers, I was just thrilled my daughter was able to enjoy the Yacht Club pool and was hoping that Disney used the same standards at all of their pools, so we have the option of trying out more Disney hotels in summer. Maybe even adding the water parks to our plans.:lovestruc I don't ever take her to water parks because I am so worried about her not being able to enjoy them.

boy though it was surpose to be better alternative - here what the cdc says

http://www.bt.cdc.gov/agent/bromine/basics/facts.asp

so if you kids are reacting to it - Disney has some problems.

I read through the information in that link. From what I understand, these are the effects that can occur if someone has been exposed to directly to bromine - I mean undiluted. I wonder what the effects are once it has been "diluted" so to speak in a pool. Surely milder.

I have never heard of using Bromine in high concentrations before, I know chlorine is used because it is so very cheap, not because it is safe.:confused3

Neither Bromine or Chlorine are safe if exposed too undiluted.Diluted they pose the same risks. The fact is that you want the pools at Disney sanitized. There is no way to effectively sanitize without the chemicals at Disney. The sheer number of people per day ,per week ,per year...Bromine is used because it is more stable and effective at killing bacteria in WARMER temperatures. The volume of Bromine needed to treat is alot less than the volume of chlorine needed to treat the same amount of water.Once chlorine is used ,it binds to the bacteria and is used up and will no longer sanitize.Bromine still has a portion that remains active in sanitizing. So again using less.It is also great for people with sensitive skin.Bromine is still chlorine based so if you have issues with chlorine( like allergies) you will have issues with Bromine as well.
