Poolrat and GoofyFan's Great Adventure- Wilderness in August edition- 8/15 Last day REALLY !!!!!

You're moving right along and gets lots done. The umbrella pictures are my favorite. I would imagine in August it's a great way to cool off a little.

I agree! Super cute picture of you, Pat, at the umbrella! I'd say, "you're cute too, Marv", but that'd just be.... weird. So, Marv, you're just... wearing shOrts- which I'm glad of. And dry.

So, this new Wandering Oakens Trading Post is totally new to me. This is the very first I've ever heard of it. So clearly, I have lost a major portion of my Disney knowledge, and desperately need to do some serious brushing up on what's what there now. ::yes:::rolleyes2

Looks like a fun afternoon.
I think the price of the golden tickets actually looked reasonable too. :rotfl2:

I haven't quite fallen for the Frozen craze, although I admit those magic bands are pretty cool - especially the Olaf band. And that T-shirt is adorable.

Love the umbrella pictures of you too!

Impressive scores on TSM. Remind me never to play with you!

Love all your detail pictures. Nicely done! :thumbsup2

I'm guessing you won, Pat.

Nice trash can pics as always.

I love the Olaf t-shirt.

We never made it to the build a snowman/ice skate area.

Great pictures with the umbrella.

Thank God the CM's came back just in the nick of time.

I hope you were able to make it for the fireworks...we really enjoyed them.

I always hit the ground running it seems and I found someone who likes to do that too. :goodvibes
I was a bit concerned about the August heat but all in all it was manageable.

I actually think they closed down Wandering Oaken's. They may move it but I have a feeling that whole now unused area will become something fantastic. Someday.

Part was a merchandise area and the other part was the small artificial ice rink and the build a snowman area. They made it work in a night time scene so they really wouldn't have to decorate too much in the empty sound stage. :rotfl2:

Not too bad indeed. I expected a few more zeros. :upsidedow

The Frozen craze is really nuts. I have seen some crazy things under the "frozen " label.:lmao:

We had fun finally getting over to the umbrellas.

I really give my arm a workout on TSMM. Physical therapy... :scratchin

Thanks, Don't think I have ever spent a lot of time back by Mama Melrose.
It all seemed new to me. :lmao:

I'm guessing you won, Pat.

Well....;)

Nice trash can pics as always.

:)

I love the Olaf t-shirt.

We never made it to the build a snowman/ice skate area.

It was dark in there and crowded. If you didn't want to skate or wait to build then you were in and out.

Great pictures with the umbrella.

It was fun finding them.

Thank God the CM's came back just in the nick of time.

The kid has his hand on the phone and fingers on buttons.
I almost jumped over a couple of rows but in the end didn't have to.

I hope you were able to make it for the fireworks...we really enjoyed them.

You will find out soon.

Catching up...

Awww...LOVE the umbrella pics! Super cute!

I don't get the Frozen madness at all - I mean it's just another Disney film and the excitement will wear off soon enough. Can hardly believe they closed Maelstrom to turn it into a Frozen attraction! Sure, the Little Mermaid and Peter Pan are from films but change a WS Pavilion for something that belongs at HS or MK. Anyway...off my Frozen rant for now!

We used to go the end of August for about 15 years...not sure I could handle the heat anymore...but would give it a try of get back again. ::yes:: Late Sept and early June were both hotter than late August though...would not go back then. It was brutal!

Enjoying the pics! :)

Kinda cool that they had an ice rink set up. I think it'd be a waste of park time, but I'm sure people would do it (and they obviously are, since you have a photo).

Wow, I can't imagine the fallout if someone started randomly pressing buttons on the Star Tours geek panel. The poor cast member would probably get into trouble even though they were helping someone.

I wish that the trading post was, oh I don't know, maybe more like the movie?

Not a darn thing Oaken there. I knew that going in there but still somehow, hoped for more.

The skating is cute though.

Cute umbrella pics of both of you.

I will let you all guess who won. :rolleyes1

Apparently we both play a bit better after a few drinks. I will say I had better accuracy.;)

You both would kick my behind!

We found a certain umbrella that we had to get a picture with.

Well, of course!

While we wait at the “gate”, You see the geek panel? Well the CM stepped away to assist someone. One boy stepped over and was about to push some buttons and pick up the phone. The people inside were about 3 seconds away from an emergency landing. :rotfl2:

:scared1: Now there's a story!

Not too bad… I thought with the price of gold now it would be the cash price of a Poly bungalow for the night. :lmao:

Yeah, I expected worse, too. I have to admit, the gold-plated tickets do look pretty cool. Not that I'd ever buy them, but now you have a Christmas gift idea for me. :rotfl2:

We had arrived that day, had some yummy eats at HBD and used our FP+ on some of our favorite rides. The Frozen Fireworks were at 9:45 but we were fading fast.

As the sun was starting to set...

The creepy tower of terror.

Why is that light on?

We had some time to kill and my camera battery was dying and besides not moving over all my credit cards to the park bag, the spare camera battery did not get moved over either. So now my camera was flashing the low battery symbol.

We walked down Sunset Blvd. and tried to find something to eat. We all know the choices are slim but I think we settled on a cookie sandwich. Sadly no pictures but the sandwich was eh.

We did however share a table with a wonderful couple from England. Rosie probably got a few texts about where they were from and where she grew up.

We were tired. We need to drive back off site back to our off site home for the night.
But we decided to stay.

We moseyed on back to Hollywood Blvd to get a spot.

Somebody lost their Mickey balloon.

Fireworks coming up next...Will my camera battery make it?

We made it and so did my camera....for now. :rotfl:

The camera dies and I just pull out my phone... :)

What did I think? I thought they were cute and the addition of the big screen at the stage and the corner of Sunset Blvd made the stage happenings easier to see. With the street being so narrow it really makes it hard to do a really BIG display since the viewing area is so narrow.

I hope with all these changes I keep hearing about that they keep that in mind and plan an area for a nighttime fireworks show.

We trudge back to the entrance and tram it to the car. A good night's sleep and another check in day tomorrow. :goodvibes

Sounds legit. :lmao:

I hear Carsland east coast, Toy story land, Star Wars land..... I guess we shall see.

Catching up...

Thanks for the compliment... :goodvibes

Frozen has everything and we shall see if it fizzles out or has staying power. :confused3

Aug IS hot but we knew that going in and tried out best to plan for it. The question is Did we succeed? :rotfl2:

It was a "cool" concept :lmao: but it was so dark in there I just wish they had a better set up.

Oh I was eyeing that kid for a little bit and elbowing Marv at the same time. We were really probably in row 1 and this was at the end of the staging area. It was a close one that is for sure. ::yes::

I wish that the trading post was, oh I don't know, maybe more like the movie?

I agree. It could of and should have been more that all the merchandise Disney could vomit. It did seem thrown together and not anything close to being permanent.

Thanks- we had fun finally stopping and taking those pictures.

You both would kick my behind!

I have a system. ;) I looked the secret "easter eggs" and pretty much stick to my plan. There are a couple of places you and your partner work together to clear and we tried that with the aliens and have cleared them but not very many times.

That may have been the first time I have ever stopped for a picture witht he umbrella.

That kid was seconds from taking down that ride I tell you. :rotfl2: The only thing that slowed him down was that there were so many buttons to choose from he didn't know where to start. :rotfl2:

I know I took a picture of them a few years ago and someone asked how much and my picture either 1) didn't happen or 2) had too much glare or was blurry. I made a point to rectify the situation this time. :thumbsup2

Too bad your camera was losing charge, but you got some great pictures of TOT.

I'm glad you were able to make it for the Frozen Fireworks. Cynthia, Jeff, Mark and I really enjoyed them...and you got great pictures with your camera and your phone.

Loved the fireworks! I can't wait to look down the street and NOT see the big hat. My first view of DHS was without the hat.

I think it was a a little different kind of show- a little live action and a lot of fireworks. :lmao: I had a feeling if we did not stay that night - we never would. Resort choice for this trip played a big part in that decision.

For whatever reason I was so unprepared to dive right into the parks this trip. From now on I pack the park bag right away!!!

I am thinking that first look down the street will seem strange but welcomed.

I just hope it is all gone and not another crazy set of walls like every other park these days.:sad2:

I too have seen DHS without the hat and I even think as it was going up, but yes it will be quite a different sight once it is all down.

I fell a little behind, what with the happenings with my Pop recently, so I'm just going to comment on your last update.

Ugh, the low battery is the worst! That happened to me in Europe! I completely forgot to charge the battery the night before. Had to use the phone for like 1/2 the day.

I'm sad I didn't get the chance to see the Frozen Fireworks, but I'm looking forward to the Star Wars ones that I hope they have. :goodvibes

Nice pictures of the fireworks Pat, even the cell phone ones. :thumbsup2

Yeah, with the narrow street and buildings constricting the view, you kind of wonder where the ideal spot to watch them from might be. We watched them from over in front of the American Idol building back in whatever year it was (2010?) when we there for the PChef night. I think that was a good spot, but we were only there because we didn't want to fight the crowds on Hollywood Blvd.
