pool temperature??

Hello: We just spent 2 weeks at WDW. The first week was at SSR andthe second was at BCV. I was very dissapointed with the temperatures of the pools, especially the quiet pool at the paddock. They tell us there is a new policy that all pools at WDW will be set to 80 degrees to save energy. I can tell you that is too cold for the winter months, it might be OK for the summer months and people who live in Florida, but we're from the north and like to get some warmth when we head to WDW.. Nobody would go in the pool, not even the kids. The temperature should be around 84. What's everyone fellings about this new energy saving policy? Thanks

I was a lifeguard for a long time, and I think 80 is a very acceptable pool temperature. In fact, I'd consider a good "average" pool temperature. You'd want it a few degrees cooler for lap swimmers or a few degrees warmer for people who are just standing around.

I am really disappointed to hear that this policy is even at DVC properties. We are also from the North (Minnesota) and have used Disney pools on every visit to WDW. (Heck-we even swam at Castaway Cay on a really COLD day when all the CM were practically in parkas.) My point being that as long as the pool was a toasty 84 we didn't mind. We were recently at POR -on the same visit we bought into DVC- and the weather was beautiful. Mid 70's and sunny every day. The pool was FREEZING As we swam by a lifegaurd we asked what's up with the temperature and he said the same-Disney had turned the temp down to 80. He said he has heard alot of complaints. We had planned for one whole day around the pool in advance of our trip and ended up going to DTD and then left early to go back to Naples where we were staying for the rest of the time. It really impacted our vacation. I didn't think this would be the policy at DVC because we are paying maintenance fees for just this reason-aren't we?? We go to WDW every January and a large part of our visit includes the pool. Our kids are young and can get "parked-out" so the pool makes a great option for those times.
As owners of DVC deeds don't we have a say if this? Who do we make our complaints know to? Is anyone else burned about this?

We were at VWL in December and at BWV over MLKjr weekend. I swam in the pools both times and were very pleased with the temperature.

Has the policy changed since January? I must admit that I was the only one in the pool at BWV, but it was 9AM and most people were probably at a park.

That is a shame. I will be at SSR starting 2/20 with DS/15, DD/14 and DS/21 months. If the pool water is too cold for the baby I am going to be very upset.

We spend a lot of money on airline tickets, park tickets and accomodations to get away from Michigan in the winter. We go each year knowing there is a risk that the weather could be too cold to swim, but we always go hoping it will be in the 70's so we can swim.

Since most DVCers get "theme parked" out, it seems like the other resort activities should be first class. Freezing cold pool water is certainly not first class.

A few years ago, my DH & DD swam at Blizzard Beach on Christmas day and loved it. This past Christmas, it was too cold to swim at the Beach Club pools. There was hardly anyone swimming the entire week we were there. They really need to turn the heat back up.

I'm guessing that one of the Mods read it too quickly and thought it was a question about pool temperatures and so it was a planning question instead of the DVC policy question that you were actually asking.

Yes, moving of threads is common, it's nothing personal. There is a fine line between which of the two boards things should be posted on. I'm not honestly sure sometimes where things should go. Oh Well!

Thank you for the heads-up on the pool temps. DH will have a major problem with this! He only gets his big toe wet if the pool isn't like bath water! I too agree that if we are paying fees at the DVC resorts, the pool temps should be comfortable for the majority of people. Most people are not swimming laps and would like the water a tick warmer. We spend more time at our resort pools than we do in the parks. This could really upset our vacations.

I agree Alexander-we too spend more time at places other than the park-that was the reason we went wit DVC. Love the accomodations and amenities for that very reason. That being said, to whom do we make our concerns known. Would that be a call to MS or would a letter be more effective? I really want to impress upon them the importance of the pools year round to those of us brave enough to go in. If enough of us vent maybe they'll reconsider.

This is interesting to me. We went Jan 15-27th and my husband, kids, and I found the temps to be great. My MIL said it was too cold in the main pool though. We all thought the smaller pools were warmer, by quite a bit actually. Maybe test them all out? I took my two year old in all of them and she never seemed chilled FWIW. Have fun!

We were at the POLY the beginning of Jan. and their pools were 88 degrees. Is this something new? And this pool temp was @ nite told to me by a lifeguard.Angel

So if they are running the pools at different temperatures, perhaps we should call the front desk each day to see what the temps are at the different pools to find the warmest? Would they even know who to connect us with to get the temp info?

I guess we won't be swimming this week-end and for us that is a big part of the trip. If the water parks are the same are they empty now? I was hoping for mid70's weather and with heated pool water to enjoy some time at the pool.
