Hi,
Dh and I are looking to purchase a pool table. I have done some online research. We do not need the really nice but expensive billiard tables. The table will be out in the garage and will be used by teenagers.. most of the time.
My questions
1. Where did you purchase your pool table?
2. If purchased online may I ask which site you used and were you happy with the result?
3. Does your pool table have a SLATE or SLATRON bed?
4. Any advice?

Thank you very much for responding.
The site I am considering purchasing from is http://www.4americanrecreation.com/bl8.htm
just the basic Aztec table... shipping to Ca. is $255

We purchased ours from Sears 9 years ago. It is slate, and we keep it in the basement. Cannot remember what we paid for it, we got it cheaper because it was supposed to be slatron but they delivered slate and the guys that came to put it together didn't want to fool with taking it back. So we paid for slatron but got slate. Anyway, we haven't had any problems with it, but we don't use it very often anymore. When we first got it my husband played a lot but now we only use it when we have company that wants to play.

a pool table was the one thing that my DH really wanted for our game room upstairs...ours is slatron, i believe. i know it isn't slate...

we ordered ours from dick's sporting goods online. it was a good price for the table and we got a $100 off the shipping charges. but we had so many problems trying to schedule delivery...they called us and asked us when would be a good time to deliver. we said any day but thursday. they said too bad, thursday is the ONLY day we'll deliver. and then they ask us what time would be good...i think we said if it has to be thursday, then in the morning please. they basically said, once again, too bad. we only deliver from 2-4pm or something crazy like that. so, if you only deliver certain hours on a certain day, then why the heck did you ask when it would be convenient for us??? THEN they told us that they wouldn't carry it up any stairs. ummm, part of their "white glove delivery" was to carry it up to 2 flights of stairs. DH quickly found that info on the website and e-mailed it to the vice president of their company along with his displeasure in the whole situation. ultimately, the table arrived as early as it could on a thursday afternoon and they carried up the stairs for us...lol.

at first we played pool constantly. now it's just occasionally. we had family over for the weekend and they played constantly...i'm not much of a pool player, but i can keep up with DH when i need to! :)

enjoy your table!!

Our pool table is an Olhausen that was pretty pricey. We keep it in the basement and use it a lot, so it was a very good investment in our eyes.

We purchased ours from a dealer here in Michigan at an "End of the Model Year" sale. (Now that I think about it.... pool tables have model years?? ) Our table is slate.

I think the model you are looking at is pretty nice and will probably satisfy the teenagers. I wonder, however, if you couldn't find this table closer to home to cut down on the shipping cost? Or perhaps special order it from a dealer? I would be hesitant to pay $255 shipping on a $450 table--- but maybe that's just me. I think you've done pretty well with your research so far!

Hope this helps!

Look in the yellow pages under "amusement devices". These are the companies which place pool tables, juke boxes, pinball machines, etc in game rooms, bars, hotels. Often times they will sell used commercial tables for a good price.

Years ago, I used to work for one of these companies, and we sold a lot of used pool tables around the holidays. The brand of table we sold was "Valley". These tables had real slate slates, and are built very sturdy. Slate and rails would be recovered prior to selling. We even delivered and set up the table.

We actually just got one from the classifieds. :sunny: You can't get any cheaper, and you can most certainly get a quality one, if you know what you're looking for and aren't picky!

had one in apt #1
doubled as a dinning room table
