A budget buster for me every year! This is our 4th year with our above ground 24' round salt pool and I'm looking at buying our 4th solar cover. I thought it was degrading because I kept it on in the winter (we don't winterize in Florida, we just run the pump a few hours a day). So this last winter I left the cover off, but it has been back on for the last month (we have been swimming since mid April) and we are back to a ripping, degrading cover with little round circles in the pool AGAIN. So much for buying the more expensive silver on the bottom cover!

So my question.......
What type of solar cover do you have, and do you like it? How long has it lasted? I'm considering the rings as they might be easier to rinse and store, but they are more expensive and if they only last a year that would be disappointing.

No comments, so I thought I would go ahead and update and say I've decided to go with the cheapest bubble wrap type cover I can find. Figure if it lasts one season thats as good as the expensive ones I have bought. The guy at the pool store says it has an 8 yr warranty so maybe I can at least replace it 1x free. My pool was back down to 82 yesterday - I'm such a wimp LOL

We have to buy a solar cover every few years, but we live in Connecticut and it's usually not as hot/humid as Florida . . .I purchase the cheapest one I can because nothing lasts forever!

I buy my pool supplies from poolsupplies.com and always had great service.

This year will be the first year we are going to attempt to change the liner ourselves . .we have a 27 foot above ground pool with the middle that is scooped out . . .should be a fun time tomorrow! :lmao:

Oh wow, good luck with the change!! We haven't had to change ours yet. You have a big pool, I bet it will be a challenge!

Yes, but according to my DH, he knows "exactly what he's doing" :rotfl2:

Our pool was installed 12 years ago, the liner was still in really great shape, we had this strange ice/snow storm October 29th last year and the neighbor's tree branch (a very large one) came crashing through the Winter cover and ripped the pool liner . . .we actually just removed all the debris and water and the tree last weekend . . .the liner was actually ripped in 3 places . . .:(

All I know is I have my bottle of wine ready for tomorrow cause I'm going to need it after all is said and done! ::yes::

I'll say... LOL. We fill our cheap kid's intex pools straight from the well, and the kids are immediately in the pool! I think groundwater here is 54°

I think their crazy, and lucky for me, Wifey is the one who wants the pool the most and she is willing to get in the 54° water to smooth it all out. If it was me, I'd have 20 pots going on the grill to boil a lot of water to add to the hose filling, LOL.

I think it all goes back to FL sun is brutal on most everything, with winter sun being even more brutal because it is closer to the earth.

I google researched it and between the sun and the chlorine it just doesn't last. The place I was going to buy one today fell through, so going to get one online.

We always had the bubble wrap one when we had our fiberglass pool but in Alabama we store it in the garage when the pool was winterized. We never had a problem with ours before we sold our house. For storage we just bought a long pvc pipe & rolled it on it & hung it up on 2 hose hangers. Good luck.
