pool side chairs gone early.... but...

FantasticDisFamily - does that mean you are opposed to moving towels that have been intentionally abandoned, just for the convenience of possibly using that chair for later?

Or do you just choose not to be bold about it?
;)

Going2dzny,

It depends - I don't like people doing this and if there hadn't been the regular chair at a table would probably have moved a towel. Also, DD was going through a phase where she didn't particularly care for mom being too bold about things...

I'd likely scope things out a bit to make sure the "owner" wasn't in the pool, etc. but if the chairs were all draped and no one, or very few were around, I'd move towels without a moments hesitation!

I probably come across more Bold than I actually am... you know... Bark is worse than Bite;)

If I get to the deck, and all chairs are "taken", I'd watch for 10 minutes the chairs with the generic towel marking I want, then go sit down and think nothing more about it.

Some people seem to think that they need a chair for everyone in there party, my kids do at least. We ususally put all of our stuff, shoes, towels, shirts, etc. under or on 1 chair. That is the chair or lounger that I am sunning on :)

I agree that each person may not need a chair... I can't imagine the kids just lying around on the CRUISE:Pinkbounc

On our cruise I noticed CM's removing towels that were placed on the lounge chairs but not occupied for an extended period of time.

While we were on deck 10 I noticed more than one couple obviously leave the deck for the afternoon (they took all personal belongings and never came back) but left their towels thrown on the lounger. I think sometimes especially later in the day people either don't know where to dispose of the used towels or they are just lazy.

If we are going to be away from our chair for a few minutes to go to the restroom or jump in the pool etc. I always leave something like a book so others know I am coming back. If we are going to be away from the chair for more than 10 mintutes we always take our stuff with us. You never know what else will come up and you never get back there.

SC Minnie,

From my experience and observations, those are just inconsiderate, socially-challenged people who felt they have paid for the services, so they don't have to "clean up" after themselves. Although they have no intention of coming back, they don't felt the need to lift a finger to vacate those chairs. They could've easily pushed the used towels off the chairs onto the deck. Then, it'd be clear to later arrivals that the chairs are unoccupied (and unreserved). Just my $0.02.

MFan,

I agree 100%.

If people didn't want to put their towels in the appropriate bins at least lay them on the deck so others know you are not coming back.

I guess I was just brought up if you are not using something someone else may want or need it.

By the way, if the towels are draped neatly over the back of the chair longwise, they were probably placed there by the CMs and the chair is not "taken." If the towel is in another position, it means that someone has claimed the chair (or has used the towel and left it there).
I think that hubby and I are fortunate not to travel with kids because it seems to be easier to get a chair at the adult pool than the kiddie pools.

Note to myself:
Add to packing list.
Item #423 - Book to leave on lounger while going potty, that I don't really want to read and wouldn't mind losing.
(Title suggestion, "Advanced swimsuit combat, vol.3")

As always ... thanks for the ideas, guys!

On our Wonder cruise last year, DH and I were sitting right on the edge of the Mickey pool while DS played in the water. A lady came up with an ice cream and started chatting. She was nice, but then the ice cream started melting all over and she didn't do anything to clean it up. Eventually she took off, but left the messy cup and spoon right there at the pool. I thought that was terrible behavior.

We went on the July 20th cruise and I never had a problem getting a lounger at any time of the day. I actually prefered deck 10 mid-ship so I could listen to the music from deck 9 but not have the crowds of the pool. Towels were never a problem either. If one bin was empty, the next one most always had some.

Happy cruisin'

Perhaps DCL would consider using a system we have here in Switzerland for parking. In certain parking spaces, you can have one hour of parking which you "claim" by indicating the hour of your arrival on a parking disk (looks a little like a kid's clock) which you place in your window. Traffic police can then monitor if you're over your limit by wandering by and checking the window of you car. For example, if you arrive at 3 pm, you show 3 pm on the parking disk, and any traffic police walking by your car at 3:30 pm would know that you're ok, but at 4:15, that you should have a ticket. DCL could have similar disks so people could put out a towel and still go for a swim or to get a drink or go back to the cabin for something. CMs (or cruisers) could see what places were abandonned by looking at the time on the disk - there could be a 30 minute rule - and clearing off the towels after that time. Maybe a bit regulated, but that's life in Switzerland!
