Anyone recently onsite noticed better security, example bracelets, checking room keys, at the pools?

We were asked to show our room key last month. My DH had to go back to our room to get his. I guess a lot of guests were complaining about non-resort guests at the pool.

Just back from BCV and they checked resort IDs at the pool and gave us bracelets. Lifeguard said there has been lots of pool hopping lately.

hmm, i called last week to see if it would be a problem if my sister, brother in law and 2 children staying at value resort, joined us at the polynesian, for the afternoon in the volcano pool, the man said absolutly no problem as long as they are staying on disney property, your guest is our guest. (my family is spending 7 nights at the poly)

Now you've done it ;) . I'm popping some of my Cub Scout popcorn and I'm going to hide now. :moped:

Well, there is signage at each resort stating that the pool is for the residents of the resort only. I can't remember if it states the particular resort or not. So, I guess you could take it quite literally and say you are at the WDW Resorts. However, it is a 'perk' for DVC owners to be able to 'pool-hop' to all pools with the exception of AKL and BC/YC pools. If it is a 'perk' for some why would it be a given for anyone else? I can't see how it would be okay for someone staying at a value resort to swim at a deluxe pool. Can you imagine the outcry if 1/4 of the people at the Polynesian had friends or family that were staying at other WDW resorts join them at the Volcano pool? There isn't enough seating as it is. I don't think the resort CMs take issue with this practice though unless it starts to get crowded. Then people may be asked to show their room keys. And just because you have one for a WDW resort doesn't mean they can't tell which one it is. The coding on each card alerts CMs to which resort it is. Not trying to be harsh, just state what I have either been told or seen for myself. Besides, I'm one of the few people that think the Volcano pool is too small and not all that terrific. But kids do like the slide.

I called Disney. This is what he told me. We are staying concierge 7 nights at poly, my sister is staying one night at a value. The man on the phone at 407-363-0029 (walt disney world) told me "your guest is our guest, absolutely no problem.". So, obviously it is o.k. w/ disney?.

Oh man, CMs are famous for giving conflicting information (just look up refillable mug threads, lol). What each person chooses to do is up to them, of course, but I would, personally, not be surprised if when your family comes ready to swim, a different CM says something completely different. Not saying whether or not you should plan this fun day with your family members, just that one CM is not always correct about the policies... and that the CM on the phone is probably not the same CM who will be enforcing/not enforcing Resort Pool rules.

Either way, have a great vacation! I am jealous!!

They were checking room keys at SAB last week on the weekend only and giving out wristbands. That being said, I noticed MANY people in the pool without wristbands including one young couple that was tubing through the "lazy river" portion of the pool when the girl yelled to her boyfriend "This is way better than the pool at our hotel". The boyfriend promptly shushed her and looked around to see if anyone heard her. None of the lifeguards seemed to care about the lack of wristbands. Maybe they only enforce the rules during peak times?

if you intend to have guests always ask the front desk and the lifeguards. If they say it is okay - take down names!!!

better safe than sorry.

I see nothing wrong with picking up the phone and calling the resort THE DAY you want to pool hop and check with the staff there. Get a name there just in case.... but if you take the word of someone outside of the resort, you are just asking for trouble.

I have seen in person a few people being asked to leave and/or being told NO when they arrive at the pool because they were not registered guests of that resort and some of these people had the nerve to start yelling like they have the right to be there when they "DIDN'T"...

The pool is the responsibility of the life guards. No one in guest services, concierge, front desk, hosuekeeping or a restaurant can over ride them. It's their call, period. In fact when it comes to pool safety, the head life guard can override the hotel GM.

And it's been my experience that the life guards have become very aware of the pool hopping issue and are enforcing it.

Why don't you and your family go swim at the value resort with them instead?

omg! i cannot believe that going to the other resort was suggested as perfectly fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because it is a value!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep the "VALUE" people out!!!! But it's OK to go to their resort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow. Now I understand. This is my sister,,,,, not a "VALUE" person.

I don't see what the problem is. If you had named teh resort she was staying at, I would have said the name of the resort. YOU are the one who said "value". I simply used it as a point of reference.

How about if I say "Why don't you go swim at the resort your sister is staying at?" Would that make you feel better?

What does "bump?" mean?, sorry just curious
A bump is a post for the purpose of bringing the thread to the top of the list. It is usually done if someone wants to keep a thread active as most people don't look past the first page or two of threads. Usually people wait AT LEAST a few hours before bumping though.

(Told you this would turn ugly by the way)
