I am trying to choose a deluxe for summer trip. A lot of tme will be at the pool because of the heat and we will be traveling with a baby making sure we go back to hotel in the afternoon. Do these resorts have a way to make sure that the pool is not overfilled with people not staying at the resort?
I am looking at
Poly
Contempoary
Wilderness lodge

Thanks!!!

They have rules but they arn't enforced. The Poly is said to have the worst problem but I've never found it to be too crowded and have always found a lounger. Don't think the contempory has problems and have never heard much about WL.

Rules are pretty strictly enforced at YC & BC for Storm Along Bay. Resort ID's are checked for all (including kids) and wristbands are issued.

It's been years since we've stayed at WL or Poly, so I'm not sure how strict they are there. As nice as those pools are, they don't seem to draw as much attention (pool hopping) as SAB.

We've seen ID's checked at the Polynesian, and had ours checked at the GF, BWV, and SAB.

The CR pool is nothing spectacular, so I din't think they get many pool hoppers, but of the three resorts you mentioned that would be my last choice for a variety of reasons.

Wilderness Lodge pools get lots of hoppers from Ft Wilderness who think they have the right to swim there. Ft Wilderness is getting a new pool (not sure when it will be completed), so that should help. They occasionally check IDs at WL pool.

We stayed at CR in August once and spent a lot of time at the pool. Not the newest or greatest theming, but it was perfect for us. I really liked going over to the pool by the lake which is totally unthemed, but deep in the middle.

Really ? FW getting a new pool ? That is the only thing stopping us from staying there - the pools. They are boring! I would love to stay in a cabin but without a decent pool I feel the price for them is not worth it.

I've thought the same thing. Love FW..but for the rates they charge for the cabins(last I checked..they are as high as $390.00..depending on the season) not having a pool that reflects Deluxe resort pricing is not much incentive to stay in them. Often those who are pool hopping at the WL..are in fact, cabin guests. Yes, they probably do feel they have a "right" to the pool. As a good many don't realized when they book their trips they will be paying more than those staying at the WL yet they do not have access to a pool reflecting that rate. Not all.. but a good many. Those who just enjoy FW(as we do) are aware of this but often a first time visitor is not. Disney does push the cabins as "home away from home" resorts with almost a DVC idea..that you have a kitchen and seperate sleeping areas. Only you are not getting a DVC option. That can be dissapointing. They are lovely cabins in a campground..pretty removed from even the campground amenities. Meaning a bus to get to the pool. Many who stay in them, figure if they're taking a bus to get to a pool, they may as well hop on over to the WL. I believe this has also been more of an issue, since the closing of River Country. Campground guests were given a discounted rate to that water park..with the illimination of RC, it's made pool hopping to the WL a bit more tempting. FW is a fabulous camping resort, and we very much look forward to our August stay..and a newly refurbished pool is LONG over due, and would contribute tremendously to stopping any pool hopping that guests might do to the WL. The campground also has rates close to or over $100.00 a night for sites depending on the season. So they rival the cost of the values, yet don't have pools as new or themed. While we love the campground and will be staying there in August..we will not stay int he cabins again. We have stayed in the WL for signifantly less. I have seen them check resort ID's at the WL whenever it is crowded. Our last trip there(last May) they also removed towels of those people who would save their seats..and then go off to the park for the day..wanting to have a spot upon their return. They would ask if the towel belong to anyone, and if it was observed that no one appeared to be using the lounge..it was removed to offer the seating to others, who were actually present.
I don't think you have to worry about the WL pool...they have been pretty agressive in their monitoring of resort ID's from what I've noticed on our last two visits.

Disney doesn't use the Home Away from Home verbiage any more. DVC villas are called Deluxe Vacation Villas and Cabins call cabins. And a FW Cabin is really not much like a DVC villa. More like the All Stars Family Suites than DVC.

We stay at the Poly often and have never had a problem with the pools being over crowded. You can on occassion have a problem finding seating in the imediate area though. And they check the ID's quite frequently when it does start to become crowded. Still it is our favorite resort and love staying there.
