Pool refurbishments question...

My family, as well as my mom and my brother's family, are booked at POR June 30-July 8 next year. My mom, who doesn't know a lot about Disney, said a person at work told her that POR pool is supposed to be refurbished this spring. She also said that if she were us, she would book somewhere else because the resort she last stayed at was supposed to have their pool refurbishment finished a month before she arrived and it was still closed their entire trip. My mom didn't know the resort she was referring to or even what year it was.

I read these boards frequently and I have checked the un-official PO site and I've seen nothing that indicates that a major pool refurbishment is planned. My mom is really concerned about this and wants to switch resorts, but I feel like it's probably a non-issue.

There's also the delimma of figuring out where else we will stay. My mom is paying for the trip and doesn't want to pay much more than $500/night for all the rooms combined. We're a party of 10 and currently booked in two rooms at POR. I'm thinking our next best option will be CBR. But, my BIL and SIL don't like it and really wanted to be somewhere that has a boat to Disney Springs.

So, has anyone else heard about this or is it, as I suspect, a non-issue?

We are staying at POR in January and received a letter last week stating that beginning January 11 2016 the Ol' Man Island area, including pool, spa, waterslide, kiddie pool and Muddy Rivers pool bar will be closed for refurbishment until later in the spring. In the meantime, we can use the one of the five leisure pools and I think you can also use the pools at POFQ. I chatted online with a cast member about it earlier this week and he confirmed. Seems like it should be finished before you would arrive though.

Thanks. Well, I guess this lady's information was accurate. She did tell my mom it would be finished in the spring, but then planted the idea that it could take longer and extend to our dates. My mom wants to hit the pool more than the parks, so she's really concerned.

The pool refurbishments are supposed to be finished by early March, so I think you are safe with a late June trip. We are staying there in early June and expect it to be open. It is normal for pool refurbishments to be done during the winter months.

They have five quiet pools and we enjoyed using the pool that was outside of our room. We often had it to ourselves, too. It was really nice. :)

That's good to know! Well, I told her that it should be done and now she is questioning if it's child friendly enough. She said she read that's it's not kid-friendly. The last time she went with me we stayed at POFQ and I told her that it was more kid-friendly than that according to the videos I've watched and things I've read. We all loved POFQ, except my mom. She actually thought it was too quiet and I think she's just trying to get out of staying at POR, but I don't think she understands that we have very few other options.

I think POR is a very nice resort. We usually stay in the deluxe resorts but have really been impressed with how nice POR is. We will be with three grandchildren, age 6 to 12 and I'm sure it is kid friendly. :) The Murphy bed in the Alligator Bayou rooms is really cute. I don't know the age of your children but I'm sure our grandsons will love that bed. ;)

I found it in two places:

Also, Andre, the guy who maintains the site, posts here, in both the POR and POFQ information threads:

Thanks! I would say checking in almost 4 months later, we would be pretty safe to assume it would be open. But, she is wanting me to switch the reservation to CBR later today. I'm just doing what she asks, since she's paying.

CBR would be an excellent choice. It's our favorite moderate by far!
Good to know! I have stayed at AS Sports, POP, POFQ, and just this last year DH, DSs, and I stayed at AKL. I hope I haven't been spoiled by that, I loved it at AKL. But really, I'm just happy to get a free trip!
