Pool party in January...

My daughter has always wanted to have a pool party for her birthday, but she was born at the end of January and we live in North Carolina... It is not pool party friendly that time of the year.

Well, little does she know, she is going to Disney for her 11th birthday next year and I just had the wild idea that I could possibly find enough families with children around her age, going around the same time we are, and staying at Pop...and throw her a pool party, at Disney... After all the pools are heated and the average temperature that time of year is in the mid 70's.

If any one has any input on this idea, I am open to all discussion, whether you're telling me it is a moronic idea or the greatest idea ever does not matter, I want other people's input.

How hard do you think something like this would be to pull off, or do you even think it would be possible?
Do you think it is a creepy stalker-ish idea? (cause I can kind of see how it sounds creepy stalker-ish but it would be meeting in a very public place)
Is 75 too cold to go swimming? (I don't believe so seeing as my wife in daughter are in the pool right now and it is only 80 degrees and the water temp is only 70)

Any idea's suggestions, comments are welcome...

My birthday is in mid-January and I live in Illinois, so I totally feel your daughter's pain! I always wanted to do something for my birthday growing up that didn't involve 6 layers of clothing and slip sliding on ice to get to wherever we were going!

A couple of things...

I don't think it sounds super creepy stalkerish, especially if you're just trying to gather a few people on the spot. I wouldn't go around trying to invite people to a party at a particular time...you may have a hard time finding people who don't already have plans. However, you may consider approaching a cast member for some help. I know the pools have pool games and activities for kids, they may be able to help you incorporate a birthday celebration into the pool games or something like that.

Also, word of warning...yes, the average temperature is 70-something, but it's just an average. I've done Disney twice for my birthday as an adult, and we had a few days that were only in the 50's. Honestly, there was only 1 day out of both trips that it was borderline warm enough to swim (in my opinion). Temperature doesn't seem to bother kids in the same way, but if it isn't particularly warm, you may not find a lot of people at the pool. Of course, you could end up with unseasonably warm weather too.

Fun idea! January is so iffy, though. I have been more than once with record lows - like 32 at night. It would not be possible to count on a pool party unless you check the weather a couple days in advance. Even with heated pools it is SO cold when you get out it's uncomfortable. I know people say this doesn't bother kids but it does bother my grandkids to the point they'd rather do a different activity than swim on a cooler day. Your daughter may be different. So I'd just advise a back-up party plan if a pool party doesn't work out. Does Pop have a game room where you could bring a cake and invite others who happen to be in there to help celebrate? Though as a mom/nana I'd probably more inclined to let my kids accept a pre-packaged store-bought treat rather than a slice of cake...just like the rules at most schools:)

This will not help this year, but there might be a community rec center or YMCA where you can rent the pool for a party. Our city's rec center rents in 2 hr chunks that include a life guard and party room for $100 for residents.

My son and I have a January birthday and live in northern Ohio, so I feel your daughter's pain.

This! There are several places here that have pool parties, gyms, YMCA's, boys and girls club, hotels... The best part about pool parties is swimming with your friends, not strangers.

January weather at Disney is unpredictable. Most people won't consider it swimming weather even at its best. Orlando is not in the tropics. When we visited in January 2009, temps were comfy in the 50's & 60's. When we visited in January 2016, there was a cold snap in progress, & the wind chill drove temps down into the 30's. So no, I don't think a swimming party in January is the way to go.

You all make very valid points. I was unaware of the extreme fluctuation in temperatures, but I guess Florida is just like anywhere else in that matter.

As for the YMCA, you can rent the pool out for parties but not only is it expensive, every child has to have a liability waiver signed by their parent and you have to be a member (in our town)

I greatly appreciate the input!

You might try to find a hotel with an indoor pool. Thats what kids do around here for winter birthday. You book a room, and have a slumber party and pool party.

We've gone to WDW in November and December and the pools usually feel too cold to me. This year, we went in April, and I thought it was still cold but I got in for a little while. Thank goodness for hot tubs. I live in the south, so I prefer water temps in the upper 80s at least.

They have "pool parties" usually everyday at the pool with activities and music. Maybe on her birthday, mention to the CM hosting the party that it's her birthday? If they are able, they may sing happy birthday to her. I don't know where you are staying, but maybe you could order a cake too and serve it at the pool? Just an idea.

ETA: I didn't read well enough. I would see if they had a cake you could order at Pop, or maybe get some cupcakes or something.

We have had some Very cold January trips.Swimming in the heated pool can be ok, getting out to do other Birthday things might be a harder thing.
