We are planning on replacing our kitchen floor in the near future. If you have a pool what kind of floor do you have? What do you like and dislike about it? What would you change it to? I keep changing my mind (wood or tile) and now I'm wondering if I should just change the vinyl out to a better grade. Everybody has to come through the kitchen to get to the bathroom so I need a pool friendly floor! Thanks.

If you have to pass over the floor in the kitchen from the pool to the bathroom, I would definately go with tile. Wood will eventually get damaged from the water and chlorine/pool chemicals.

We have a pool and we have tile in the kitchen. I love it as the cleanup is a snap. Just make sure the tile isn't the kind that gets real slippery when it's wet. We have the kind that doesnt get slippery so no one will fall and break their neck!!

Oh yes, tile. Wood floor would be ruined very quickly. Very good advice about making sure it is the kind were you won't slip and break your neck.

I had a swimming pool with hardwood floors. Like you, people would walk through my kitchen to get to the restroom, or to get drinks.

We ended up closing off my DH's closet from the inside and turning it into a half bath. Luckily it was on an outside wall (and we owned a plumbing company - that helped!), so we added a door and a pathway to it. We also bought one of those little dorm-sized fridges and stocked it with soda/beer.

I say the tile as well and non slip. We have slippery tile in the back room off the deck and as funny as it is to see people ice skate in July lol. It really is dangerous and I have to put a little rug down and warn everyone who's not aware.

We have a really pretty tile floor. It is varied sizes and earthtones of tile. It is dull, and not shiny at all.. so it is no so slippery when wet. It is perfect for the kitchen, bath and hall which all connect to the pool area by two sliders.

so it is a huge.. in and out traffic area. I like it so much because it dries quickly, no foot prints, does not show traffic pattern or dirt. It came with the house... yay for the decision of previous owners.

I was leaning towards tile. Two downsides are our kitchen floor tends to be cold during the winter and I thought tile floor would be too hard. The upside, I couldn't imagine keeping a wood floor nice (I've been in a million models and all with tile floor look great). I hadn't even thought of the pool chemicels. So a dull tile surface is non slippery?

Thanks again.

Don't get me wrong.. Dull tile is still slippery when wet.. however it seems less slippery than the ''shiny tile''.

This is another thing. I have found that the tile floor is the most difficult for me to stand on for long periods. I have repeatedly found that patients with back problems seem to complain of more back pain when standing on tile floors vs wood floors.
