Pool is very important to DS. Where to stay for April birthday trip?

DS and I are doing a mother/son trip for his 8th birthday in April . He loves to swim and I'm sure was a fish in his other life. :teeth: We stayed at the CR this past trip and while he loved the resort, was very bored with the pool. I know that Stormalong Bay is the ultimate, but unless a major code comes out, YC/BC isn't happening. How is the pool at the CBR? Or is their a better pool at any of the other resorts?

Check out the CSR slide and pool, or the Port Orleans slide and Pool. Those two would be my choice for a moderate. Now, if you go Deluxe, like you said Stormalongbay is great, the Poly slide is cool too. :)

Another thought would be to check out the AKL, as their pool has a slide and the animals are around too!! My boys enjoyed it very much, and the fire and storytelling was enjoyable too. The lobby is interesting too!

My pool crazy DGD likes the pool at the Poly and of course SAB. As for moderates, we haven't stayed there yet, but I hear CSR has the best slide/pool.

CSR!! It has a great main pool area with an arcade, sand volleyball area, 123 ft slide, a sandbox and playground.

I was going to recommend CS, too. Great pool.

Have you looked at renting points from a DVC member for the Beach Club Vilas? That might bring Stormalong Bay into your budget. Since it's just the two of you, a studio should be plenty of room. If you can make the trip avoid Friday and Saturday nights, it really could be a bargain! We're using points to stay at the Beach Club Villas for DD's 8th in January. She has always wanted to stay there for Stormalong Bay!

We're probably staying at CSR in February for my bday--29 again :rotfl: . One reason is that DH will be at a show most of the week and their pool looks awesome enough to keep DD occupied for a few days, without going to the parks all the time.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll enjoy.

With the exception of Stormalong Bay, we have found all of the mod/deluxe pools to be fairly comparable -- and generally crowded during the warmer months. My kids love them all.

If your ds really loves the water, why not spend more time at the water parks?

Definately Coronado! We have stayed at all of them. My son actually likes the pool at CSR better than SAB- he is only seven though and I think SAB was a bit overwhelming.

According to my kids (who are in their early 20's!) the best pools in your price range are:

Stormalong Bay

Animal Kingdom Lodge

Riverside

Have fun deciding! :cheer2:

Definitely CSR. No other mod is close to this great pool. SAB is the only pool that is better.

Coronado Springs has my vote also. If you get Cabana 9b you will be so close to it (over an attractive bridge) & the bus, main building. We really found it very magical & beautiful, especially in the evenings. Perhaps rent a boat with your son too for extra magic with $ saved over a Deluxe stay. The hot tub was lovely, the ducks & bunnies, & the gator we saw (not in the pool!), the great bus service... I think, you can also use your refillable mug (great Bday souvenir) at the pool.

(I have to say THANK YOU to Buzz2001 for his/her website & those fantastic photos that capture it for me)

We haven't stayed at POR (yet), but if you stay there or at POFQ you can use both pools as they are sister resorts. My DD (also a soon-to-be 8 yr old reincarnated fish who'd rather be at the CSR pool than in MK) is really wanting to try out the serpent slide at POFQ. But she so wants to return to CSR too... decisions, decisions! Even though we're off-site most of trip, she's getting a night at 1 for her 8th Bday present. She has an AP & chose a stay at CSR or POR/POFQ rather than joining her older sisters at the Waterparks.

The (off-site) Nickolodeon Family Suites is supposed to have quite the pool/waterpark too. But, myself, I don't see any magic in it. Just lots of Tylenol for Mom!

Have a great Birthday Trip!

I love your family photo with the Mickey Tiki outfits. At first glance of the outfits on Disney website I laughed at how wild the print was, but after seeing your great family photo here I went & bought them for our upcoming Cruise! Now we probably won't look anywhere as good as your family does, but you gave me courage & it will be fun!

Coronado Springs pool is the best moderate pool going. Great slide and theme and a great play area for the kids right at the pool and a huge hot tub for the grownups and kids alike.

I just checked the points chart.
April 1 - 8 and 23 - 30, a studio is 14 points per night. April 9 - 22, it's 19 points per night. Both numbers are for Sunday through Thursday stays. Friday & Saturday are 32 and 43 points per night, respectively.

Most members rent their points at $10 per night. That makes the first and last weeks of April comparable to a Moderate resort, plus you don't pay any tax on the point rentals.

we are also going to celebrate our sons 8th birthday at wdw. (apr 30 - may 6) we decided on CBR because it has a great pool (for him) and you can view the epcot fireworks at night (for us, it our anniversary the day before his birthday) so it's the best of both worlds.
have you thought about any fun & special things for his birthday?

I think port orleans riverside is really cool. And like they said, you can use the French Quarter pool. I don't think any one would have a problem since you'll be going in the middle of winter. Hope it's not too cold for ya.
Wilderness Lodge is pretty cool, more scenic than fun though. Although my favorite has to be All Store Movies pool. I can't wait till we stay there again. I like Sorcorer Mickey the most.

Do you think you can show him all pixs that you can find on Disney pools? That might help. I think all moderate pools are fun. But if you really want him to have lots of fun non stop is to take him to Blizzard Beach/Typoon Lagoon water park. For sure he will enjoy that... and what a treat for the whole family!

My son loved the pool & slide at CS... it was so much a part of his Disney experience that he expected all the pools to be like that. The next visit we went to CB... the pool was great but not the slide. (Not as high or as fast.) But ask for a room near the pool... some of the rooms are a very long walk away.
