Pool Hopping?

DVC members are offered the perk of pool hopping if the pools are not crowded. The AK and BC/YC pools are not aloowed at all because of the number of folks staying at the resorts could over crowd them. Most folks who rent points are just on the ressie as a guest of the member and they have to follow the rules of a member and get the perks also. I am not a pool person, I have been by pools on my trips and found if the pools are crowded they check IDs more than if they are not. I have seen IDs check even at the All Star pools. The last time stayed at an All Star during the summer which was a few years ago you could pool hop to another All Star resort if it was not crowded. The rules now for the All Stars I do not know.

Hey, maybe this summer when it's hot here in CT, I'll just drive over to the Marriott for a dip in their pool. Or there's a nice condo complex with a pool nearby, maybe I'll take the kids over there one afternoon.

Some people just have no brains! (as for pool hoppers - their brains are usually underwater.)

Lets break out the firing squad!!!! in all seriousness though, I am going to gently agree with most people here. I think its very understandable that if people are paying for the wilderness lodge, AKL, or any resort whether its value or deluxe, they and only they should have the right to swim there. I dont think thats too harsh. Even though all of these hotels are under one disney umbrella, they are individual to each hotel and I would probably be upset to come out to the pool of my hotel and my daughter coldnt find a chair or whatever while someone and their 3 kids from a different resort were taking up space. I dont think thats unfair at all to get angry at that. I also dont think that just because a CM doesnt stop you that it means its ok. How many of these CM's feel like getting confrontational with people? They will likely just say its ok just to avoid any arguments. I think it comes down to basic values and common sense. If you didnt pay for it and others have, they have priority. Besides all that, things are hectic enough as it is trying to get your kids here or there, I cant imagine packing everyone up and going to resort I wasnt staying at just to swim. Thats crazy. Just my opinion.

Macy00, yes, you can walk around other resorts as much as you want. On our last trip we walked around AKL, WL, GF, Poly, and the Beach Club. My favorite pool by far was at the Beach Club. My fantasy is to stay there one day and actually be able to get in the pool! (AND to WALK to EPCOT. What luxury!)

The fundamental argument here seems to be that only those staying at the resort she be able to use the pool of that resort. Well, if that's the case, why should DVC members be able to use other resort pools?

Even though our family has DVC I tend to agree. We don't use the pool hopping privilige, but as Disney builds more DVC resorts this perk may come to an end. I find it too much of a hassle to visit other pools other than the one I am staying at. If guests begin to complain I am sure it will see it's end more quickly. There was a time no one knew DVC members had this perk, other than the member themself. With the advent of Net forums, little is not known now.

I do find it amusing that guests at times feel they are entitled to all the amenties of any Disney resort just because they are staying at "a" Disney resort.

I see them all as a seperate entity. I don't imagine the Grand Cypress Hyatt near WDW that is a deluxe 5 star resort allows guests from the Airport Hyatt to use their pool even though both are owned by Hyatt.
