The "New and Unofficial Pool Hopping With the Extra Person Staying in Your Room and Carrying a Reusable Mug" thread:
While reading the latest reports of felony activity at WDW (was it the extra person in the room or the reusable mug thread...can't remember), it occurred to me that these issues get raised over and over again with much consternation but little resolution. May I humbly offer for your review the following summations, "copy and paste" formatted for either viewpoint:
**Pool hopping (when you are not a DVC member):
Affirmation:
-everyone does it/it doesn't hurt anyone
-maybe if I like the pool I will stay at that resort some day
-what difference does an extra 2 (or 4 or 8) people make anyway
-when I used to come to WDW in 1979 we did it all the time so
why can't I do it now
Condemnation:
-it is against the rules/look what you are teaching your children
-it causes overcrowding for those guests who are staying at the
resort
-pay for your value room, swim in your value pool; pay for your
deluxe room, etc etc
**Extra Person Staying in the Room (beyond official WDW
Capacity)
Affirmation:
-everyone does it/it doesn't hurt anyone
-onsite rooms are so expensive/Disney makes a good profit off
the room anyway
-the extra person will spend lots of money at Disney and make up
for the free ride
Condemnation:
-it is against the rules/look what you are teaching your children
-it is a safety hazard and against fire code
-if/when you are caught you will have to pay rack rate for
another room (it happened to my sister's boyfriend's uncle's
neighbor, I swear!)
**Reusable mugs (those from a previous trip/from another
resort/purchased off ebay/borrowed from your neighbor/etc):
Affirmation:
-everyone does it/it doesn't hurt anyone
-I paid so much for the mug the first time I should get unlimited
refills forever
-When I bought my mug 15 years go they promised me unlimited
refills forever
-Fountain drinks are high profit/low cost for Disney; they can
afford the "freebies"
Condemnation:
-it is against the rules/look what you are teaching your children
-Disney will raise the price of the mugs to factor in lost revenue
from "freebies"
-Disney will stop offering mugs altogether and we'll be
spending $2.50 for each bottle of Coke
What have I missed? Seems to me there will always be those for and against these issues and never the two shall meet.
Besides, there are so many more important issues to debate. Like, why is the WL so overpriced and cramped and the AKL so
dark and isolated? And is it really so wrong if I bring tupperware to the concierge lounge to "stock up" for our next day's meals? And, if my son just joined the Marines but can pass for 9, why can't I buy him a child's pass? And don't even get me started on why I can't stay off site, park at the GF and take the monorail over to MK for free......
