I have just been told that the DVC pool hopping privelege is for all disney resorts and not just DVC resorts. Is this true?

If I can pool hop to the Polynesian or Grand Floridian, are towels provided or do I need to take those?

Thanks for any help you can give me... OUr Magical Gathering in May consisits of dinner at O'Hanas, and I was thinking a dip in the Polynesian theme pool beforehand would be nice.... I need to have my facts in order, though, before I send 8 people out there to swim!

Yes, you can pool hop to all resort pools. I know that Poly provides towels at the pool, I'm sure GF does also.

There are "blackout" dates when you are not allowed to pool hop (like at Xmas), but you should be safe in May.

Enjoy!

Oops, almost forgot! You cannot pool hop to Stormalong Bay at BCV.

Thanks for the quick response,Melanie.

I've just looked at the pictures of the Polynesian pool. I think all the greenery and foliage would be appreciated by my family, coming from dry, wintery Montana!

Be sure all 8 have their resort ID's that say "DVC Member".

Are you sure you want to swim before dinner? I don't think there is a place to dry hair, etc.

Don't forget Animal Kingdom Lodge - we can't poolhop there, either.

Debbie,

Hmmmm... thanks for bringing that up. No hairdryers. We'll be staying that night at Wilderness Loge. Doing MK during the day. Ohanas for dinner. I was thinking we would leave MK really hot and go straight to the polynesian, take a dip, then do dinner, but maybe not. Maybe we should just take a break at VWL mid day and go to the Polynesian for drinks before.

As always guys, thanks for the wonderful info!!!!

At certain times of the year pool hopping is not available. These times are listed on the DVC member site. Also you are suppose to call the front desk of the resort you wish to hop to and ask about coming over. Sometimes if that resort is at full occupancy DVC members can not pool hop. Also as stated the pool at the Beach Club and the pool at Animal Kingdom lodge are not included.

Also all those going to pool hop must be staying at a DVC resort on points.

Also, please remember that you must call the front desk of the resort you are planning to hop to to find out if the pool is open for pool hopping. If the resort expects the pool to be at capacity you may be denied. This has never happened to us, but it could. You could also be given permission and then be asked to leave later if the pool reaches capacity. This also has never happened to us and we pool hop alot. Once given permission you only need to provide your resort ID to the attendant ( if there is one on duty ) and you will be given access to anything you need). We have charged drinks poolside, rented boats and life jackets and never had a problem. Enjoy !

YOu don't HAVE to do anything to poolhop...They request you call ahead to check on availability but the person on the phone may have no idea what you are talking about...you may or may not need to show your ID as a DVC member to get towels...we never have...you should be prepared to leave if a pool is too crowded and that should be no big deal if your party is aware...so much teeth gnashing goes on about poolhopping when in fact very little is ever done about it...even by those who are not supposed to be doing it! If you are a DVC member and you are avoiding the AKL and the SAB-just go...outside of a busy time it is highly unlikely the pool will be at capacity...and highly unlikely anyone will ask you to show proof of your permission to be there....but as a DVC member you do have this privelege.

The rules say call ahead, but I agree with Paul, they usually have no clue. I'd go and take my chances. Even if you did call ahead and get a true answer, that answer could change prior to your arrival or even while you're at the pool. The only thing I'd check is to make sure PH is not banned in general for the days you want to go.

Actually, if you're going to hop to the POLY though, I would make sure that y'all have your room cards that state DVC member with you. We've hopped there lots of times as my ds loves the jumping fountain there and I've seen people asked to leave at least a few times. You may or may not get asked for I.D., we haven't but have seen them ask others. That particular pool has a big problem with pool crashing because they are so easy to get to from both the monorail and the boat from MK (maybe it was obvious that they weren't guests of the Poly - some people are braisen enough to jump in in shorts and a t-shirt .

) So I think they may at least be making an effort on busier days anyway to try and crack down on that a little.

The Poly pool has a nice restroom at the pool btw with showers and I think they have a hair dryer as well. Not positive. I do know that the GF's pool with the slide has restrooms that have hairdryers and showers if that helps any.

Have a great time;)

Okay, this may work then! You guys are such a great source of info.

Scootch, I'm really happy to hear you think there's a hairdryer at the Poly; if so, we will do it.

Can anyone verify there's a hairdryer in the poly changing room???

Thanks, all!!!!

Scootch, what is the jumping fountain at the poly?
It's kind of like the fountain in the middle of Future world and world showcase at Epcot - the water shoots out of the pavement and the kids can run under it like a sprinkler. Both my kids are under age 4 so since they're little yet, they love this :D

Wish I could say for absolute certain about the hairdryers at the Poly. I am certain they have them at the GF's pool that has the jumping fountain and slide. The pools are similar with the exception of the volcano theming at the Poly - the GF's one tends to be a bit less crowded though if it interests you any. You could always hop to that pool, have the hair dryers and then hop the monorail and head to O'hana afterward.;)

Huh?? Our family of five pool hopped there last January and the pool was packed. We were never asked for I.D's, never mind my kids being asked for theirs. This just doesn't happen, do not worry about it. We had them just in case, but no worries about it. By the way, this pool is rather small (we were coming from SAB though), and people were surrounding us at every turn. So if you just want a dip to cool off, great, but if its wading and enjoyment, I'd probably think again. It gets extremely crowded and uncomfortable.
