Pool Hopping Question

May I ask, why would anyone want to pool hop? It seems far more trouble than it would be worth, and all the DVC properties have nice pools. Yes, some are nicer than others, but still I would just go to one of the water parks if my swimming needs exceeded the resources of my DVC resort pool.

That was the same thing I used to think when I read anything about pool hopping. I am not a pool person so I will probably never hop or if I do it will be on rare ocasions such as the one I am asking about. On the 4th of July my son and I plan on meeting some DIS friends who will be staying at SSR, we were going to hang out at the resort for the day however if he can't swim then we will probably just go over to say hi and the leave pretty quickly because I am sure her girls will want to be in the water and I know he won't want to just sit an watch. Can you particiatpe in the events and stuff they have at community hall etc if you are not staying at that resort? This is our first trip where we won't be doing the park commando style so I am consfused about all the "rules" and goings on outside of the parks.
