Where can you find the pool hopping information? I looked on the member website and can't find anything. Do you know if it's suspended in the summer months?

Don't you hate trying to find things on that web site. I'm just starting to remember where to look, which must mean they're getting ready to change it again. (I'm lost now on the WDW web site, since they made those recent changes.)

Anyway, the information is there. It's just hidden way down.

Member Privileges tab, Member Perks option. Walt Disney World link. Recreation link. Water Activities link.

Here's what it says...

You and any Guests staying with you at Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Disney's Beach Club Villas or Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are permitted to use other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the Resort hotel at which you're staying) if they are not at capacity.

If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that Resort hotel. Please check with a Host/Hostess at the Front Desk of the Resort hotel you wish to visit to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current "Key to the World" card with your Disney Vacation Club "Member" designation on it to use other Resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Uzima Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts or at the leisure pools of these two Resort hotels. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time because of capacity limitations. Due to expected high occupancy, Disney Vacation Club Members may not "pool hop" during the following dates*:
February 18 - 24, 2007
March 31 - April 8, 2007
May 25 - 28, 2007
June 30 - July 7, 2007
August 31 - September 3, 2007
November 19 - 25, 2007
December 16, 2007 - January 2, 2008
*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.

Awesome thanks!! Part of my stay is blocked and that is the part I wanted to hop since the parks will probably be really crowded (4th of July week) so that would be my luck :thumbsup2 Not that I would cheat ;) but do they really check ID's etc? Like if I go to another pool do I need to make sure I have my DVC card as well as my room key?

If pool hopping is blocked out, then as a responsible DVC member, you shouldn't really decide to pool hop anyway. So many people hate the fact that DCV members can pool hop and if you decide the rules don't apply to you, well, they have the right to be mad. But you said you wouldn't cheat, so we don't even need to think that you won't follow the rules.

You need to have your blue member card and you room ID.

I'm with Deb. Don't hop on days that are blacked out. And yes, have your ID handy. They aren't just on the lookout for DVC membership. Locals do try and come use their pools too.:sad2:

May I ask, why would anyone want to pool hop? It seems far more trouble than it would be worth, and all the DVC properties have nice pools. Yes, some are nicer than others, but still I would just go to one of the water parks if my swimming needs exceeded the resources of my DVC resort pool.

I could see us pool hopping to GF or one of the monorail resorts if we needed to cool off while visiting MK otherwise only if we were doing a meal at another resort. What do you do about changing?

Denise in MI

We go to WDW over the summer for DH's work. Since my kids are still smallish and the weather is hellish, we stay out of the parks. We will stay and try the pool at the GF on the day our son does the cruise out of there, or CBR, we've done that too: cruise and swim. One day lst year, my son and I just hopped on the monorail and went to the pools at CR and Poly for fun. OI think of it like dining at the resorts, in that we'll go someplace we haven't been or stayed so we can check out the resort. I didn't really get the appeal of CSR, until we went to swim there and saw how georgus it is.

Ahhh, but the Dig Site is such a nice pool.

I agree, its too much hassle for my group. We just enjoy the pool where we stay, water parks, or stay where we want to swim.

There are a number of reasons. Some people don't go into the parks every day (some DVCers are spending three weeks or more at Disney each year). If you aren't going to go into the parks, pool variety makes a nice day trip.

Some people like to revisit their favorite resorts. They might fondly remember a trip to the Poly or POR from five years ago. Pool hopping can be sentimental.

Some people are in a park - say Epcot - for the day. They want a quick mid-day break, but don't want to bus all the way back to SSR to do it - they take a hour and spend it at the BWV pool (bring swimsuits in a daybag and a plastic bag to throw them in when you are done).

Some people have pool kids - you know you have one of these kids when they don't want to ride anymore rides and its only 10:00 in the morning, they just want to go back to the pool. Pool hopping can keep Mom and Dad from going nuts.

Some people need a pool that's a little different than where they are staying - zero entry for little kids, a tamer waterslide - or a wilder one.

Its a hassle for a lot of people, but for the people who do it, it obviously isn't.

Crisi's points pretty much describe why I will be pool hopping. We are staying 17 nights in May/June. Thats a long time to be at just our pool so I know we will hop. We have never before but we have never been that long in the heat of summer. Also, my kids loved the pool at POR years ago, and have been dying to go back. Since I love the food courts at the values and mods, it will be nice to use that pool, have lunch and just enjoy some down time.

When we first joined DVC I thought, "what a useless perk". Now four years later, we have been to WDW so many times and pool hopping is something new to try. We have Premium AP's so we will do the water parks too, but sometimes a resort pool is way more relaxing and less hassle.

When you are staying at a resort, you are allowed to use that pool the whole time, even during blackout dates, correct? We are staying at AKV 12-20 to 12-26 and we are planning on using the pool. These blackout dates only apply to hopping. A DVC member would never be asked to leave the pool of their own resort, (I hope not) if it got crowded?

No you are never blacked out from the pool at the resort you are staying at. You'll be fine, enjoy your trip!

Are you going over Memorial Day? Pool hopping is blacked out during that time. Also, if you are staying at a non-DVC resort (noticed you are staying at the Polynesian), even if on points, you cannot pool hop. Pool hopping is only permitted when staying at WDW DVC resorts on points and when it is not blacked out.

Deb: I am going over Memorial Weekend and yes I know I cannot pool hop over that weekend. We will be there through June 8, plenty of time to pool hop over to POR once Memorial Weekend is over.

Yes, I am staying at the Poly, I won't be pool hopping while there because yes I know I cannot hop when I am staying on cash reservation or on DVC points at a non DVC resort. We are there for two nights (one full day) and will spend our day enoying the Poly pool only.

No need to worry, I don't break the rules, don't reuse my mugs, sneak other people into my unit and will pool hop legally. I knew when I posted my trip info on this thread somebody would remind me about not pool hopping over Memorial Weekend and I should have gotten more specific about my pool hopping plans to avoid another post on my part. Explaining that I dont' plan to Grand Theft Pool Hop.

I know, I hate it when people post about how they cheat the system too! So I had to clarify my own self this time around!;)

Hey, as long as you don't take extra towels from the pool to your room.....
