Can someone give a quick run on pool hopping policy for DVC members.

We will be going end of January ( hoping to be able to even go to a pool:rotfl:)

We will be staying on another members points so our room key will say "DVC member" and I will bring our DVC cards.

Staying at SSR and not planning on doing the parks. Can we pool hop to any pool (besides SAB, BLT and AKL)?? Does it have to be a DVC resort? Can it be GF or Contemporary?

Thanks for any help.

Technically, you are not a member for this trip. You aren't using your own points, but the points of another member. So as a renter, you are not entitled to DVC member perks.

Found the Portable Perks with the pool hopping rules. They are as follows:

Pool Hopping

You and any guests staying with you at Old Key West, BoardWalk, Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Saratoga Springs, or Animal Kingdom Villas, Bay Lake Tower, or Vero Beach are permitted to use other DVC and WDW resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the hotel at which you're staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you're visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that hotel. Please check with a host/hostess at the front desk of the resort you wish to visit to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current "Key to the World" card with the DVC Member designation on it to use other resort hotel pools.

Pool hopping is not available at Uzima Pool at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Stormalong Bay, the leisure pools at the Yacht & Beach Club, Samawati Springs Pool at Kidani Village, and Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower. There are no exceptions to this policy.

As a reminder, during times of high occupancy, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels/personal items on unoccupied pool chairs.

Due to expected high occupancy, DVC Members may not "pool hop" July 1-5, 2009, September 4-7, 2009, November 23-29, 2009, and December 12, 2009-January 3, 2010. (Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.)

Looks like there is no rule about me a DVC member staying on another DVC members points. We will still have the DVC member designation on our cards since we are guests of that member AND we are DVC members, so looks like we will be pool hopping on this trip!

You are not a member for this trip. You are a non-member using a member's points. So the perks don't apply to you. The rules you quoted are for members staying on their own points. Likewise you would not be able to contact MS about this reservation because you didn't own the points to make the reservation - unless you transferred points. Then those points became yours. But if you did not transfer the points, you are no different from any other non-member.

Just like if you decide to stay at a non-DVC resort paying cash. You are not eligible for DVC perks except for shopping and dining. You can get those anytime, even if you aren't staying on the property. Or if you are just passing through town on your way to somewhere else. But pool hopping is different.

Not your points, not your perks.

From the DVC Website - this precedes what you copied:

"Whenever you are staying on your Membership at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney's Vero Beach Resort, or The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you and any Guests staying with you, are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World® Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity."

You are not staying on your membership.

Unless you got those points for free from the other member, you are not really their guest. You are their rentee and MS must be notified that you are renting the reservation.

I am a DVC Member. I am staying on points. I paid 18k cash and my dues. I am going to use my perks. Sorry!

Thanks for your input though. :goodvibes

But, not on YOUR points. You can feel entitled for paying money into DVC (all members have - so throwing around dollars means little), but you are not really entitled to the perk in your current scenario because you are not using YOUR points.

You obviously have already made up your mind though, despite what the rule is.

Hmmm ... so, if a member takes a trip using transferred points are they not entitled to member perks?

I mean, renting and transferring points are essentially the same thing if you are a DVC member. In both cases, the points are not really yours ... you did not pay dues on those points, etc.

Actually rented and transferred are not the same. Transferred points are owned by the person who received them. They have full rights to them, to cancel and change their reservations, etc. Rented points are never in the possession of the person receiving the benefits (renter), the reservation actually belongs to the person who owns them.

It really is not about dues because our member dues do not benefit non-DVC resorts, rather its about what the guidelines and rules based on the contract with WDC and DVC says. Their contract (which is spelled out in the rules) is pretty clear on who can and cannot use pool hopping perks.

So question is: did you make the reservation?
If so, I assume you are the owner of the points and perks. :wizard:

You most assuredly can use member perks like the dining and shopping perks, but you may not pool hop. It's really very clear.

In my head I'm visualizing that generic DVC member pounding his/her fist on the check in desk while stating "BUT I AM A DVC MEMBER AND I PAID A LOT OF MONEY AND I AM ENTITLED TO ...."

Nope won't be necessary. Because there isn't a pool attendant in Disney that is going to call member services to see which person called and made the reservation. Not the least bit worried about any of your opinions on this now that I have seeked out my portable perks. I have it in my grubby little hands and it states VERY clearly to me that I must be staying on points with "DVC member" on my KTTW card and I must be a member. Both of those things will be true. My new DVC friend made the reservation for me instead of transferring the points to my account in order to "technically" make it ok for the Pool Hopping police on the DIS (who wouldn't have know that I rented the points vs. had them transferred) to deem that now "technically" it is ok to use those points for which I did not pay dues on and somehow will now allow me to be entitled to my pool hopping priviledges. We just see the writing differently. I will be sure to post back when I get asked to leave the DVC pool because the pool attendant went back and made sure that I booked the reservation versus my friend. :goodvibes

We could keep going, but I know you won't change your mind and I won't change mind. Let's just agree to disagree on the "technicaly" Have a good one!! Really!

It's not a technicality, it's a fact, you do not own your reservation, your friend does and they are not traveling with you.

This thread wasn't about if you'll get caught, but that you are asking to break a policy/rule, which won't be encouraged or supported by others.

I support Cmbar. Good grief people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks ShellyLynne. I appreciate some support from a fellow DVC member. I am not trying to do something I honestly don't believe is right. I just read the Portable Perks differently than they do. I have even searched my documents and can't find anything on this where it states I have to be staying on only my points or where it states I can't have a fellow member make a reservation for us. I wouldn't be considering it if I thought it wasn't right. I stayed at POP last year and did not pool hop because I knew I was not staying on DVC points. Oh well. I am ok with it!

Thanks again!

Closing this thread rather than give out infractions for arguing.
