Can you all explain pool hopping rules for DVC members. We will be staying at Ft. Wilderness this summer using our developer points, and I want to make sure it is ok to use the Wilderness Lodge pool. Do we just show our member card?:beach:
We were originally going to stay at Disneyland, but I needed to change due to cost of airfare, car rental, etc... I did not realize those points could not then be used to stay at a DVC resort, since it was a Disney Collection. It all gets confusing. It was a very valuable lesson to learn early on. I am looking forward to staying at FW and having a relaxing time. I guess we will be building up until our first trip home to AKL next year.
Thank you for any help.:wave2:

I think you'll be okay.

I believe that DVC members can hop to any pool other than Beach Club or Animal Kingdom Lodge. There are some blackout dates where pool hopping isn't allowed, there's a thread on the Operations or Planning board that shows the dates for this year.

I would have your DVC member ID in case they ask, but they probably won't if it's not that busy.

Technically you aren't ok. Pool hopping is available to DVC members staying at DVC resorts on points. Since Ft. Wilderness isn't a DVC resort, you aren't supposed to hop over.

Crisi is correct. If you are not staying at a DVC resort on points, you cannot pool hop. This trip you'll have to stick with the Ft Wilderness pools and the water parks if you have tickets for those.

Your home resort doesn't come into play for pool hopping, either. There have been a few questions lately about "if I own at BCV, can I pool hop there even though I'm not staying there". It's about where you are using those points, not the resort they are tied to.

Rules are there for a reason, why does everyone challenge them?

Now that I got that out of the way...

Check with the Life Guards at WL. If attendance is low, they will let you hop.

To pool hop, you need to have a room key that says "DVC Member" on it, not your member card.

When I stayed at POFQ last fall on points, my key did say "DVC Member" on it. I don't know if they can tell that it did not come from a DVC resort.

If you really feel that way, why add the last comment? :confused3

When checking in at FW you will be given a piece of paper to sign that mentions that you understand there is "No Pool Hopping". We had that paper given to us when we checked in and unless the policy has changed, I would think that you should receive it also.

I had just posted this in another thread:

BTW, official Disney policy is;

You and any guests staying at a DVC property are permitted to use any DVC or WDW Resort pool if they are not at capacity. You must present your current "Key to the World" card with the DVC Member designation on it. Pool hopping is not available at Stormalong Bay and the leisure pools at Yacht and Beach Club, or at Uzima Pool at AKL. Currently no pool hopping is allowed on the following dates: Feb 17-23 & March 15-29. Other restricted dates may be added based on projected capacity.

Thank you for responding. I am not trying to break rules, I just want to know what they are before trying. We just joined and our guide had told us we could use the other pools. If am DVC member and using points to stay, it seems you should get the same privleges.:)

Only if staying at that DVC resort on points. You have to use points. And that would be DVC policy, not Disney and there is a difference. :thumbsup2

I guess sarcastic responses just aren't my thing. I didn't mean to confuse you.

My first line is me trying to placate the folks that get upset over people breaking the Disney rules.

The third line is the reality of the situation. Disney has an official policy that they can refer guests to should it become necessary. According to the Life Guards and Managers that I have spoken to, when attendance is low, they don't check room keys or issue wrist bands, and the don't enforce the policy.

As a courtesy, I would check with the guard on duty and follow their instructions.

We stayed at the AKV and pool hopped to other resorts. I had no idea there were "rules" I actually thought I read somewhere that the only pool you couldn't hop to was AKL any how.

Looks like I may have broke some "rules":scared1:

When you check into your DVC resort, you will get a copy of Portable Perks. Pool hopping rules are located there. It does say you must be staying on points at one of the DVC resorts in order to pool hop.
