Pool Hopping at Grand Floridian?

Now that Grand Floridian also has a DVC component, is it possible to pool hop there? We are going to MK for the day, have our last FP at 1:55 and then have dinner at 1900 Park Fare at 4:35. I was thinking it might be simpler to take a pool break at GF instead of traveling all the way back to SSR. Any reason that plan might not work? Thanks!

Members have always been able to hop to the pools at the Grand Floridian.

When staying on your Membership at any Disney Vacation Club Resort at Walt Disney World Resort, or Disney's Vero Beach Resort, you and any Guests staying with you are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that Resort hotel. Please check with a host or hostess at the front desk of the resort you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability.

You must present your Magic Band or current Key to the World card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other select Resort hotel pools. Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas, the Lava Pool and leisure pool at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and the pools at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. There are no exceptions to this policy.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, you and any Guests staying with you may not pool hop during the following dates*:

November 24 - 29 (Mon - Sat)
Dec 20, 2014 - Jan. 4, 2015 (Sat - Sun)
February 14 - 21, 2015 (Sun-Sat)
March 21 - April 5, 2015 (Sat - Sat)
June 27 - July 11, 2015 (Sat - Mon)
September 5 - September 7, 2015 (Fri - Mon)
November 22 - 29, 2015 (Sun- Sun)
Dec 19, 2015 - Jan. 3, 2016 (Sat - Sun)
*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.

As a reminder, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels or personal items on unoccupied pool chairs.

Historically DVC has restricted PH at resorts with a DVC component. I would suspect CR is still allowed due to the physical separation and VWL & VGF are still allowed due to the small size of the resort component comparatively speaking. The will likely change at VWL in the near future and possibly at VGF as well. Ultimately PH is a dying perk regardless though there still are a few opportunities.

Pool hopping is restricted during most of the summer- as well as other holiday periods so make sure that it is not a time of year that all pool hopping is suspended.

It's usually been restricted only around the 4th of July - this year the only summer restrictions are June 27 - July 11. Labor Day weekend is also restricted, but otherwise, pool hopping is allowed. Of course, there are still several pools that do not ever participate in this perk.

The black out dates are included in my post. If you don't see the entire quoted text, click the 'click to expand...' text at the bottom of the quote.

No. Pool hopping is a member perk. The member must be present.
It's even more restrictive than that, the member must be staying on their own points, it must not be during a blackout time and there must be enough space.

Are you supposed ask at the front desk or the lifeguards?
Historically it's been the FD but the wording has changed in the last couple of years that would seem to remove the requirement to check specifically. The lifeguards are the final authority and may ask you to leave subject to capacity issues. Also, a number of the pools are now excluded to any PH.

:confused3As always, don't understand the PH thing. I grew up swimming my whole life and love pools, but to leave a perfectly good pool where I am and drive/bus to another resort. Well I have better things to do with my time on vacation.:confused3

I generally agree with you. In this case, we wanted to go to morning EMH at Magic Kingdom but had our last fp at 1:30 and then had an early dinner (4:35) at GF so I figured that odds were good we were not going to make it back to SSR for a swim break (necessary for the little ones who don't nap but need the break and for our sanity in the heat of summer). We use a stroller so carrying an extra bag with suits is no big inconvenience. We ended up moving our fp that morning to noon and heading back to SSR right after for swim and rest time, then heading to GF from there so we never needed to PH.

We love hopping over to GFV pool...not quite sure why they didn't restrict it...but very happy!?! We will normally hop to BWV a when spending the day at the studios.

I for one will be happy if or when pool hopping is totally removed. It will eliminate the confusion as well as over crowding.
