Ok, after I decided on staying onsite (and got a two bedroom hospitality suite), now I'm starting to change my mind. What are the nicest (and it doesn't have to be the cheapest, since we were planning on spending all that money for the suite onsite) pool home/condo/townhoome communities that are very close to US. I like resort style (there will be 3 teens and two 9 year olds). I stayed in a pool home years ago while doing WDW, but it wasn't part of a resort, and althought the house was ok, the neighborhood left a lot to be desired (I would like to be in a complex that is a vacation property, as opposed to a residential area whose owner rented out her/his home). Yes, I know we'll be missing out on FOTL, but I'm willing to sacrifice if it will save us hundreds (and I believe it will. And we are not rich folk!) But, we do like to stay in nice places. We are planners, so we do plan on arriving to the parks before they open, and we'll be there for four nights. So, being able to do everything won't be a problem. Thanks for your help.

You might want to ask this on the orlando board, but I found a community called Regal Palms Resort which I believe is part of Highlands Reserve....

And for those looking for resort facilities we have both 3 & 4 bedroom units at the new Regal Palms Resort; featuring 2 large pools linked by a lazy river, water slide, sports bar & restaurant, a beauty spa is slated to open December 2005

Not sure how close it is to Universal. Most villas we've rented are about 10-15 minutes away, which hasn't been a big deal to us with Universal's quick parking and easy walk to the parks.

We've stayed here and love it http://www.katiesvilla.com/
It has Disney themed rooms, internet access, a game room and a pool with a jacuzzi, and it's new, clean and spacious feeling.

Good Luck!

Regal palms is nice but it's probally a 40 minute ride to US/IOA. I suggest looking at staying at a place like Hilton Vacation Club on International Drive or the one near seaworld. Also try vrbo.com for rental listings. myresortnetwork.com has resort listings for timeshares by owners. YOu can usually get a great deal and not be bothered by the timeshare people. I like the Marriotts and Hiltons and the Sheratons are nice too. I stay away from Westlake though.
